Perfect, just in time for your Christmas shopping, Hip Hostess has a beautiful variety of aprons on her site, and this week, Debbie is giving away one Melon Splash Demi Style Apron!
Yes, you could be the winner of an apron, exactly like the one I’m wearing here!

But let me start with this. When Mary from Giving up on Perfect asked her readers, how do you define home? I couldn’t help but comment.
There are so many answers to give. Home is a resting place, a place of safety (hopefully), it’s where we get our tummies filled up and we let our hair down. My home is often messy, full of kids and laughter, and tons of noises like barking dogs and most recently power tools! It’s also not a perfect home–just ask our neighbors when they hear us yelling! Like, come on, get in the car! We’re leaving for soccer! Get your violin done! Whose turn to do the dishes? Pick up your socks! Pick up the towels! The list goes on and on.
On a more serious note though, my answer to Mary was this:
Home is where you learn to be yourself, to be real, and for my family – it’s a place where courage is bolstered.
It’s where we talk around our table about life, and we go deep. There is no untouchable subject in our home. Since the kids’ dad wrote a powerful curriculum, a faith-based response to bullying – we talk about all the cool things happening with this ministry, and how it compares to our kids’ experiences, we learn to encourage one another, which bolsters our faith. It encourages us to make a stand in life. To stand up for what is right. It helps us think of how we can give to and love others. It’s an important kind of bolstering – a kind that is required by all. And it happens at home.
ANSWER TO WIN!
So … what is home to you?
Leave a comment, share your heart and a chance to WIN something that will HELP YOU be more hospitable, right? There’s nothing like a brand new Hip Hostess apron to get you inspired!

Hi, I'm Sandy. Five years ago I stocked up on beautiful glasses from the Dollar Store. As I started writing about dinner parties, I realized that this “icon” portrays a great message. It says that dinner parties are attainable, they are affordable, and that they can be beautiful even when on a budget.

Home is that safe place where I can completely be myself. It’s where I get the best cup of coffee and the best night’s sleep. It’s where I meet my husband of 32 years (12/04/77) for the best meals handsdown. And, best of all, it’s where I feel God’s presense each and every day.
[Reply]
Home is honestly just wherever my husband and babies are. I know that sounds a little generic and an easy answer, but lately, with the influx of family visits already starting…..I realize after everyone has gone home how I feel the absolute best and “at home” with my own little family. Wherever we may be.
[Reply]
Just tweeted. Does it linkback? I wasn’t sure if I had to tell you or not. =)
[Reply]
Home for me is wherever we are together. After being displaced by Hurricane Ike for 7 months, and living under 3 different roofs during that time, I found that I had to adjust my definition…as long as we were safe and together, we were home.
[Reply]
Home is simply where we can feel safe. It is the place where we can come in and be ourselves without the fear of judgement or ridicule. It is a place to where we leave the stresses of daily living at the door to laugh and even cry together. Home is best described as a place we can be ourselves!
[Reply]
Home is family and warmth and just being together. Home is calm and peaceful at times and joyful and loud at others.
[Reply]
My home is my safety net (physically and mentally).
[Reply]
Home is where my family is. Where love is cooking on the stove
[Reply]
Home is a haven and place where no one should judge you and where you should feel totally at peace and able to rest and recharge before leaving to go back to “the outside world”.
[Reply]
Home is the place to feel safe from the world. It is where you are completely accepted and loved. It is where you can be your best or worst and you are still loved. It is the place that always welcomes you and is glad to see you. There is always a warm bed and fluffy pillows, a cup of hot cocoa, and someones arms to cuddle in. And like the other commenters mentioned, this can all take place wherever your family is because they are what makes a home a home.
[Reply]
That is such a loaded question…
a place where you can be “you”…a place of unconditional love…

Home is a place with doors. . . doors that can swing wide to welcome family and friends, doors that can shut tight to keep out the world when it tries to invade. Home can be the site of a party or the site of a recovery room. Right now home is in this house, and I love this house–but home can move if it needs to.
Home is whatever is needed. There’s no place like it!
[Reply]
home is where ever my hubby and two little boys are. we are in the military and move to a new “home” every few years. i have had to adjust my view of home to being surrounded by the people i love most.
[Reply]
Home is where ever we all are. We’ve moved several times when the kiddos were little and I’m always amazed at how resilient they are… as long as mom and dad and siblings are there, all it good. I love that sense of simplicity and security.
[Reply]
Home is where we raise and nurture our children and our marriage. It is a safe place for everyone and hopefully their favorite place to be.
[Reply]
In the midst of a very full life, my soul is rejuvenated by just spending time at home. Being surrounded by my family, cooking a meal (or especially a treat!), making the home sparkle and smell good, decorating for each new season, getting caught up on the phone with a friend or tackling a long overdue task all help me to feel peace and calm. Don’t send me away on a trip (although that is wonderful too), just give me a day at home and I’m a new woman!
[Reply]
home is where my family is & happiness!! tweeted about this….

Home is where you feel loved and where you can come at the end of the day to just relax, sit back and be yourself. Where you can kick off your shoes and wear sweats and no one will care. Home is where you build memories.

Home is where you are accepted and loved just as you are. A place where loved ones gather and joys, hopes and sorrows are shared. Love, honor and integrity towards those living with you make a house a home.
[Reply]
Home is where my child can feel safe, loved, and know that his parents adore each other and him. It is where he can bring all his friends and hang out, have fun, eat good food, and be themselves. It is where we celebrate birthdays, holidays and make memories. Home is where we learn about God’s love for us, learn about hospitality, and open our hearts and arms to others. Home isn’t just four walls and a roof… it is the love that fills the structure and makes you feel welcomed, secure, and comfortable.
[Reply]
Home is the place we return to at the end of the day for love and comfort and security.
[Reply]
Home is a refuge. It’s a place of safety and love. It’s a place to rest and rejuvenate.
[Reply]
Home is where ever my family is. I’m the happiest when we are together just watching a movie with a big bowl of popcorn, having a family game night or just watching the kids play in the pool on a hot summmer’s day. I must thank you for the chance to win that beautiful apron. I will be posting it on my blog for an extra chance. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
[Reply]
I blogged about your giveaway!
[Reply]
For me, I define home simply as a place where my family is gathered and the kids feel loved and secure. It doesn’t matter if that physical structure is a 3000 square foot house or a 700 square foot condo. If there’s love, laughter and good conversation (with ample amounts of coloring, play-doh and cookie baking), then that’s good enough for us!
[Reply]
Faith. Family. Friends. Food. That’s it.

I want my Home to be a place that is centered on God and His Love. A place where there is a lot of love, warmth, and comfort. A place to find rest, nourishment and quiet for body, mind, and soul. The place where my family is that is where my Home is and that is where my Love resides.

Home is where it is safe. A place to crash and enjoy the family and friends in your life. A place to be yourself without over the top expectations from anyone.
[Reply]
We’ve moved a lot over the years so home isn’t just the four walls and roof over our head. It’s where ever we’re together when we’re relaxed and just enjoying being together with no outside pressures.
[Reply]
Home is where you can unwind, be yourself, and not have to worry about what other people think. Home to me is calming music, inviting candles, and a home cooked meal shared with your family!
[Reply]
Home is a comfortable, relaxed place – where you can spill things and put your feet on the coffee table. I’ve been in plenty of “homes” that were treated more like museums and felt uncomfortable the whole time. Home is a place where laughter is abundant, and where you feel cherished and affirmed as a person. Home is safe and cozy and familiar (if not always peaceful!).
[Reply]
Home is the serenity in our hearts when we are all together. Home is the security blanket that embraces us. Home is where our heart is.

Home is a place of complete comfort, peace, and freedom to be yourself without judgment.

[Reply]
Home is our safe place. It is the place that we can be ourselves and not be judged. We have 3 teenage boys and since they were born, we have made sure our home was the place where they felt safe, secure and loved, no matter what the “outside” world was telling them.

Home is where after a full day at work, a trip to the gym, running errands and getting groceries – I am able to get in my pj’s, throw on my favorite robe, hug my husband tight and prepare myself mentally and spiritually for the next day to do it all over again.
[Reply]
Home means many things to me now since we have moved a few hours away from our family. Right now are so blessed to be living in a cozy little cottage in the woods, I don’t miss the big house we had in suburbia a bit. But for me home is also a long visit to my parents, Sunday dinner at my son’s house, Christmas Eve at my aunt’s, a fun party at my friends house…since we don’t get to see everyone as often as we used to all of this is home to me now too.
[Reply]
Home is our safe haven from the world. It is where our grown children and their families are always welcomed and loved. It is where we gather to celebrate and console. It is our comfort.
[Reply]
Home to me is where there is comfort, acceptance, and love no matter what! Being able to relax and be at ease and always welcomed. When your older children who have moved away from home come and sink into your couch and relax and enjoy themselves without being nagged to come home that’s one sign that God has blessed your efforts to make this kind of home…
[Reply]
Home is where you gather yourself together to face the challenges of life. It’s a place of comfort and safety you create for yourself. Home to me is the aroma of freshly baked bread or applesauce in the making, sheets drying outside, a good book waiting to be read, children’s laughter, a hug from my husband – the simple things of beauty.

Home is a sanctuary that my family can come to when the outside world is cold and unforgiving. I hope they step into our home and feel security, love, warmth, and grace. I pray “home” for them will become memories and traditions; reminders of comfort and peace where ever the Lord may take them.

Home to me is an ever-evolving story — the best external witness to what’s happening to us inside. I’ve been on a kick to transform my old story (clutter, unrest, busy-ness) to a new one of rest, creating a peaceful haven, and making time for important things, both small and large. With a new baby and 2 other small ones, it’s the best thing I’ve done for my family so far.

Home is the warm and comfortable place I sleep every night and rise every morning. Home is the place I laugh and love the most! I know its corny, but so true – Home is where my heart is — its where my true loves reside (LL and my bub, Claire too)!
Great question!

Home is where my family and I find sanctuary from the outside world. We find shelter and warmth here. There is a feeling of security in knowing that there is always a place we can go where there is constant love. While our home here on earth is only temporary, it is a reflection of the complete peace and comfort we will find in our eternal home.

To me home is where you can finally relax, sleep, eat weird stuff, laugh, cry and basically be yourself with your favorite, most loyal people in the world. That would be family.

Home is where we are together as a family. It doesn’t even matter if we’re in our house–if we’re together that’s really enough. But the house does add an element of relaxation, and of ministry. Home is us! The house is just where we live and have fun and minister.

I love this, for us home is where comfort happens. It’s where we can be real, be us and learn who are in life-in relation to God first and then others. It’s a place we can make mistakes, and learn from them. It’s a place of belonging and growing. Wow, it’s so much to us, thanks for a few moments to reflect!

Wow….good one! Hmmm…home to me is a sanctuary away from the hussle and bussle of the world. A place where (my hope is that) our children will always always ALWAYS feel safe, secure, and loved. A place for laughing, crying, and being yourself. A place where we are ALL learning and a place where we are striving to put God first every day.
Yep…I think that sums it up.
By the way…love the handles on your kitchen cabinets…we have the exact same ones (great minds think alike)!!!

It is where my children feel most comfortable, nestled in a place where they are loved unconditionally and taught how to live a God-centered life. For me, home is anywhere my family is gathered.

Home is where we are together as a family. We just moved from our first home that we built together and I was so sad because we were leaving our “home.” We moved into a small rental until our new house is built. Our rental is now HOME. We are together and our things and each other has made this house OUR HOME.
Love the apron. Hope I win!
[Reply]
I have asked myself that question a lot in the last year or two! We have moved several times and so I naturally wonder those things. But I have come to the conclusion that Home is where my family can gather and where love abounds. There is a freedom to share our hearts and sometimes our hurts. We can be real. Thanks for asking! The apron is so cute and wearing one would make me feel “at home”!
[Reply]
What is home? I can honestly say that I’ve had a home or a place that truly felt like home in the past ten years when I got married. Unlike my childhood home, this home feels like it. A home is place where you truly feel safe and never had to worry about being hurt. A home is a place where you fit in and don’t worry about being bullied, teased or feeling self-conscience of yourself. I home is where you are surrounded by people who love you and you love them in return. A home is where you want to go home to at the end of a terrible or happy day. This is what I have and I am grateful for it!
I would love to win the apron. I’m just starting to entertain in my new house (we moved recently) and this would help. At least it would help me feel more like a classy hostess.
[Reply]
Home is where I can be myself and be loved anyway, home is where we can shut out the world and devote time to each other. Home is where memories and traditions are made. Home is a place to come home to. Home is a place to be settled (I moved 23 times before getting married), a place where you love the ordinary, everyday things. Home is a place where I feel safe and secure, a place where love abides, courage grows, respect is learned, and a gathering place for family and friends.
I suffer from depression, so a lot of my life is spent at home, secluded and alone, but this year I’m feeling good, so I’m planning some entertaining for the first time in years, I’m so excited and a new apron would be wonderful! Thanks for the chance to win.

Home…it’s a big word. To me home is a lot of different places and people:
Heaven, how I long for the day when I can meet Jesus, my Father…oh, what a day!!
My house where my husband and girlie live is my comfort zone, where I can let loose, where I can be messy, where I can be myself…totally.
My hometown in Canada, I think I will always call that home even though it’s been 4 years since I moved to the US.
Wherever my family and dearest friends are feels like home. A hug from my Mom feels like home, a long chat with a good friend feels like home, snuggling with my husband feels like home.
The list goes on.

My answer is going to be different than most I am sure..Home to me is…You can feel warm and fuzzy right when you step into your home. It’s when you snuggle in bed with your child(ren) and husband or significant other, it’s fresh baked cookies and apple pies. Home is not only a place, it’s a feeling or something that gives you a warm feeling. It’s eating as a family at the dinner table and sharing breakfast in the morning. It’s bed time stories and late night giving my baby her bath. It’s a cuddle with the cats at night while watching my favorite daytime shows. It’s being the best parent and spouse you can be and giving all of your love daily to each.

I did a whole post on this back in October, after a trip to L.A….
Home is the foggy little peninsula and the house with the purple door. My home isn’t perfect (I gave up on that in favor of my sanity…and apparently blogging)…it needs a new master bathroom (Can you just imagine saloon doors? OK, they are gone now, but they were there!), the kitchen tile is atrocious, the grass is a little brown, and there is plenty of dog hair to go around.Yet, when I drive up to the house, I hear the “sniff, sniff” at the door waiting for me, my favorite picture hanging on the wall, the smell of my favorite candle, and again all is well with the world….my world. The one where my kids make messes and laughter, where I stay up too late, and where, when the sun sets on the deck, it is pretty darn near perfect…especially if chocolate chip cookies have just finished baking in the oven!

Hope.
Ordinary people with an extraordinary bond.
Mutual respect and love.
Enough.

Home is the safest place in the world. Where there is laughter and love abounding.

I love your site and new kitchen! Home is food, family and fun not necessarily in that order. Hubby just left for three weeks and we’re missing him already.
A piece to our puzzle is missing.
blessings,

You can do or be what ever you want, this is what we stress and encourge in our home even if this means that your Jr in high school DAUGHTER wants to play varsity FOOTBALL! Well with a lot prayer and talking it over the the coaches she finished an entire season that included summer camps and 2 hour practices 5 days a week in full gear and maybe a little lip gloss she ended up a league champion she may not have played in every game but when she did you could hear the crowd show her their support & not just from mom & dad, so this will stay with her for the rest of her life that yes it is possible to do or be anything you want.

“Home is where the Navy sends us.” We’ve lived many different places, but really…home is where my family is. Where we can all feel safe to be ourselves. Right now, it is warm and cozy and quiet, but in the morning, my toddlers will be awake and the joyful noise begins! I can’t wait. I am such a home-body!!
And I soooo LOVE that apron!

What is home to me? Plain and simple… Home is anywhere my family is.

H-O-M-E… it’s the place you long to retreat in after all the activities of the day. It’s the place where your feet can finally rest. The place your family finds connection again.

Home is whatever you make it to be. For me it is a place where love abounds. It doesn’t matter the size or condition of your living place, so long as the bond of love holds your family together.
