I think by now most of us have packed up and put away our Christmas stuff. And now we’re freshening up the house and looking around for ways to make it cheery and bright. Besides the standard fruit bowl that sits out on my counter with apples, oranges and bananas during wintertime, I like to decorate with fruit around the house, adding a bit of life and color.
Make the place where you live a place where you can express your own taste!
Pomegranates are easy (you can purchase 2/$1)
Displayed on candle holders (dining room)
Or with pine cones (living room)
Even as a simple centerpiece
Oranges bring vibrant color to the kitchen counter
Or little apples and pears just for display
Lemons and limes at New Years
Really, I never run out of ideas when using fruit in my home. I’ll do anything to bring color and a pizzazz to it during these blue months. Anywhere but the bathroom, that is. I don’t know about you, but to me fruit just doesn’t “go” in a bathroom. Do you think?
Play around with fruit, try something new and make it fun for your family! (Lemons in spring, apples in the fall … the photos above are what I’m using in my house right now).
What’s your favorite way to decorate with fruit in your home?
(This post is linked to The Inspired Room Winter Home Tips Friday!)

Hi, I'm Sandy. Five years ago I stocked up on beautiful glasses from the Dollar Store. As I started writing about dinner parties, I realized that this “icon” portrays a great message. It says that dinner parties are attainable, they are affordable, and that they can be beautiful even when on a budget.

I love fruit for color!
Hmmmm…I’ve never given it much thought, but I’m not thinking that fruit in the bathroom sounds right. Although, perhaps fake lemons?

Definitely not in the bathroom – I agree!

Oh, no – not in the bathroom… ick.
I like to use granny smith apples – love the color. Also, I use oranges, lemons, limes, cranberries, etc. They just make everything look so fresh and crisp.

Yah…no in the bathroom!!
I don’t really use it to decorate but really don’t have a reason why not. My mom used to decorate with fake fruit all the time and it always looked so real that the grandkids used to try to bite into it.
I can see myself using it to decorate but would probabl lean towards fake fruit so it wouldn’t go bad and I can usually only afford so much (enough to eat).
Love the idea and how it all looks.

Love the pomegranates! I love decorating with fruit but have never used those. Thanks for sharing!

I love punches of color provided by fruit also.

You’re going to know right away by this that I’m a total weirdo…but pomegranates scare the daylights out of me! I think it has something to do with all those seeds. Eek!

I use fruit all over because the color is so great. There is always a bowl (I use a trifle bowl) on my dining room table with oranges, lemons, and limes. Sometimes I tuck fresh rosemary in it for some variety. I also place candles on a platter and spread cranberries all around the base of them. I have also hollowed out apples and put votives in them too (my sons favorite!).

It just looks so pretty… thanks for sharing the ideas.

Hi Sandy. I’ve always decorated with apples. To me they are beautiful. I pile them high in bowls and urns. When they begin to get too old I throw them out in the woods behind our house for the critters.

that’s so funny about fruit in the bathroom.
i had a beautiful painting of a table in a garden in my powder room & always felt uncomfortable with it in there. but now – i have a painting of pears in there & love it. but i agree about real or fake individual pieces of fruit in the bathroom. no,no,no.
pomegranates are beautiful fruit & pears, too. the variation in colors make them so appealing.

i love to decorate with fruit, pomegranates even when they’re reasonable, but where in the world did you find them 2/$1? i just bought one yesterday for a special salad and it was $2.49. of course we’re on the east coast, so maybe that makes the difference. but still, even when they’re in abundance (like before thanksgiving) they were only on sale for $1

We always have apples, oranges and clementines in a large bowl on the coffee table. My kids love fruit and eat it all day long so it is rare that the fruit goes bad. It is funny how many people will touch it ask, “Is this real?”

I like decorating with fruit too. I have a bunch of faux lemons I use in my large apothecary jar. I also use faux strawberries too. And no, I don’t think fruit goes in the bathroom. hehe

Pomegranates are so yummy and delightful looking. What a great idea to decorate with them. I think grapes are so classic looking that I love to put them in tiny bowls dotted around the home so that I can have a nibble at any time.

Love your ideas! And I always have fruit around! Thanks!

hmmm . . . of all the things I decorate with, I guess I don’t use fruit all that much. I do love your lemon and lime picture at new year’s though. kelly

Yes yes!
I adore the colors that fruit creates.
Have a big glass container on our white/maple island…with bright green apples in it…so brings the wee bit of green that I have in the all white living area into the kitchen area.
Then I have a tall domed cake plate…with like frosty glass.
When I put different fruits under it…it totally puts the hint of color that corner of the kitchen needs!

I too love using fruit to decorate – apples, lemons, cranberries, and pomegranates. What kind of lights do have in your arrangement. They are amazing!

Oooh! Love how the pears look. I’m going to give this a try. Thank you for sharing this great idea.
Blessings!
