When RE readers cried out for this “Crockpot” Chicken Noodle Soup recipe awhile back, I asked my friend, Chris, to share her recipe with us!
I’ve yet to try it, but if you do, let me know the results!
Your family devoured it?
You served it at a luncheon?
You shared it with your neighbors?
Homemade Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup
(Adjust according to the size of your crockpot)
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (sometimes I put frozen chicken breasts in the crockpot on low the night before and the next morning – remove, shred, and add back in)
1 tablespoon onion powder sprinkled over chicken as it cooks
Cut veggies approx. the same size for even cooking:
2 stalks celery
3 large carrots
1 large onion
4 medium potatoes
3 chicken bouillon cubes dissolved in enough water to cover everything in crockpot
Cook 6-8 hours on low. 1 hour or so before serving.
Turn crockpot on high and add:
2 cups hearty noodles (I love to use homemade style noodles in this soup)
1 cup frozen peas
Fresh parsley – this adds so much color and just makes it look special (I’ve used dried too)
Of course, additional chicken broth can be added if needed.
This is a simple recipe that can be adjusted to your taste. It’s also fun to share!
Winter is definitely soup season!
Do you have a favorite crockpot soup?

Hi, I'm Sandy. Five years ago I stocked up on beautiful glasses from the Dollar Store. As I started writing about dinner parties, I realized that this “icon” portrays a great message.

After you spotlighted Chris a few months ago, I e-mailed her and asked if she would be willing to share her chicken noodle soup recipe. I’ve tried various chicken noodle soup recipes over the years, but this was one of the best I’ve tasted. In fact I plan to make some again this week. I just had my gall bladder removed last week so am easing back into eating again. Chicken noodle soup sounds appetizing.

Recipe sounds delicious…do you add “uncooked” noodles or do you cook them before throwing them in that last hour?

Re: the cooked/uncooked noodle question – It depends on whether your crockpot on high will actually boil or be close to a boil. I have one that does and one that doesn’t. The noodles are more flavorful if they can cook in the crockpot, but if the crockpot doesn’t boil, cook them before adding them to the soup. This soup doesn’t require any ingredients that are not usually found in the kitchen, but is very much appreciated wherever I serve it. It gives that special comfort feeling. Enjoy!

Can you tell me what size crock pot this recipe is for so that I can determine how to adjust it, via ingredients. I have a 7 qt. crockpot.
I’m looking to make this!

I just wanted to tell you that I tried this recipe last night and it was a huge hit. I makes a lot because the noodles soak up a lot of the broth. I added some sage and some chicken herbs to this and it was delicious! My husbands comment was… “This is so good and hearty!” I shared a big bowl with my neighbors this morning because the mom was having back trouble and I took over some homemade rolls to go with it.
Thanks for such a simple but delicious recipe and one that is inexpensive to make.
