Years ago my friend Hoppi showed me the little inexpensive secret to a simple centerpiece: Buy wheatgrass and display! It seems to have made a comeback, I’ve noticed this spring season, as I’ve flipped through magazines. Some people add flowers or Easter eggs, but I say, keep it simple!
Just this week I purchased 4 individual pots of wheatgrass for $1.19 each.
Place on your favorite pedestal stand.
Find a ribbon in your ribbon stash that goes with the colors for Easter.
Tie around the outside.
Set on your dining table.
Don’t forget to water ever few days.
Simple, inexpensive, elegant, and beautiful.
Do you keep a stash of extra ribbon for decorating ideas?
Oh, and our kitty, Hobbes, loves to eat the wheatgrass … watch out if you have a kitty cat! This picture was taken in our old dining room (before remodel) back in 2006! I just caught her again eating the grass!

I am so glad that you posted this. I never knew what that grass was called. Your ribbon choice is fabulous with the wheat grass. I would love to fill a basket with it and put some pretty eggs in it!

Great idea … unless you have cats! Or, still a great idea if you love your cats more than you worry about cat scratch marks on your dining table.
Around 20 years ago, my mom found a thin, scraggly branch in the yard, stripped the bark, painted it white, then a clear coat, and stuck it in a margarine tub of plaster or cement. After it dried, she hung easter eggs from it. Cost ten cents in paint, a quarter for the base, and eggs are around ten cents each, and it’s lasted 20 years.

I’ve used wheat grass before, but thanks for the fresh idea and to TT; I’ve been saving a great manzanita branch with plans to decorate with painted mushroom birds, but that’s a great idea too.

Sandy, I get get your cost down to pennies. Go to the bulk section of your grocery or health food store and buy 1/4 cup or so of wheat berries. Plant them now in a container to fit on your pedestal and they’ll be beautiful by Easter. I did that last year and it was such a hit. The vibrant green is lovely on a table.

What a pretty idea. I’ve even seen some “fake” grasses that look so real. I decided I want to find a few really pretty trays to set in the center of my coffee table and on my dining room table. My extra tables just look so bare.

Ohhh, love that ribbon! I love to use ribbon and have drawers and boxes full of them. I am cutting back and working on using up my stash. The wheatgrass reminds me of how I decorated for a buffet luncheon 2 years ago. A neighbor was patching a piece of his lawn and had some sod left over that he gave to me. I put on my floor length tablecloth, covered the top with a well tucked plastic cover and topped that with the sod. I covered the sod edges with thick ribbon and laid our meal on top of that. Since it was in our garden the effect was beautiful and quite a hit with the women attending. I had rolled out the sod the day before and brushed the grass lightly with my hands to stand it up. Just a light misting the day before made it look good without making it too wet or heavy to work with. Thanks for sharing your beautiful ideas with us, I enjoy your blog so very much.

I’ve done this before with Easter eggs but I love the simplicity of yours with just the ribbon and pedestal.
