Hi, I'm Sandy. Five years ago I stocked up on beautiful glasses from the Dollar Store. As I started writing about dinner parties, I realized that this “icon” portrays a great message. It says that dinner parties are attainable, they are affordable, and that they can be beautiful even when on a budget.

We’ve never had the chance to entertain outside having lived in flats, but just today we have signed the lease to move to somewhere with a garden a week on Friday, so you can bet we’ll be starting our spring entertaining as soon as we can get our hands on some outdoor table and chairs! We’ll probably start with something informal such as a BBQ but we’re going to make the most of that garden as soon as we see a glimpse of sunshine!

It’s fine line for entertaining here in Florida you have to do before the mosquitoes take over the outside which is usually when the weather starts staying in the 80′s. So to answer your question I would have to say I start March and try to make it last as long as I can before the mosquitoes drive us inside.
Hugs
Kim

We turned our deck into a sun room, so we don’t have an outdoor dining area. But, if we open the big windows in the sunroom all around it, it’s like we are eating outside, without the pesky mosquitos!

We start in march indoors, and take it outside as soon as the ground is dry and it’s warm enough to not shiver when the sun goes down……{:0)

I usually have an Easter party, the husbands hide the eggs while the mommy’s and kids are inside for a craft. Then we open the doors and the kids go crazy hunting for eggs. This is a great way to keep everyone outside. Of course, we have a big ham dinner with all the fixin’s inside and then finish with a simple dessert out on the patio. Fun times! I looked up your April Fools dinner, and I think I will copy your menu…delicious and simple works for me! (btw, I live in PA)

I guess I would say the first time we start is on Memorial Day weekend – there is a parade that goes right by our front door and last year we had family over to watch it with us. That’s the earliest I can remember entertaining outside – and it’s definitely a tradition we’ll continue!

Usually Memorial Day is the first time we entertain outside, even if it’s still a little chilly here in WI. Our friends are all off that weekend and are usually happy to get together – sometimes we’ve even picnicked in a park with warm fleeces or jackets on. It just seems the beginning of the outdoor season – I usually start planting flowers and my hanging baskets that weekend too.

we don’t entertain yet outside only because we really don’t have a patio quite yet. We have a covered porch but there’s no room for a table. Last year though when it was hot we did pull up a bunch of chairs, made a makeshift table with plywood, sawhorses and a sheet and enjoyed a BBQ outside.

The last few years, even if the weather is not that warm yet, I like to serve one course outside – either appetizers & cocktails or dessert & coffee! It really breaks up the event in a fun way! My guests always appreciate the back yard – our house backs up to the woods so it is very beautiful any time of year. I usually put some fresh cut flowers (spring variety) and candles on the table and if it is chilly I will have the Chiminea going with some Adirondack chairs set up around it!

in Upstate SC – as soon as the first day over 60 degrees
Sometimes our winters are not bad and we can really entertain all year long. My husband and I host a Halloween and Christmas Party every year and everyone is inside and outside on the deck. Gotta love the South! I’ve gotta say that necklace was made for me! My husband’s name is Shane and my name is Shannon! Don’t ask me who Shawn is
lol
Love the site!

We live in Arkansas, and it already feels like Spring! Saturday night we are having a crowd over for dinner and a celebration of our 7 year old granddaughter’s birthday. Not quite Spring, but it’s good enough for us!
[Reply]
Not until at least June… but it’s worth the wait! Thanks for this opportunity!

We live up north, so we have to wait until it warms up a bit–usually late May/early June.

We started entertaining outside last Sunday! It has been MONTHS since the weather reached above 40 degrees here, so the break was heaven.
[Reply]
That necklace is adorable! I love the look and the idea.
We will be entertaining outside any day now. No set date…just waiting for that little gust of warm air to come through. Then it’s hamburgers outside for us and our great friends!

We live in Indiana,so not until late April or early May. I love Lisa Leonard Jewelry. It is so beautiful. Thank you so much.

Memorial day always starts our “outdoor entertaining season”
[Reply]
Is this open for overseas visitors?
If so….. we start entertaining outside around November, maybe late October if it has warmed up enough, we have pretty much stopped now as it can get too cool in the evenings out here but will sit out during the day till the end of April.
Thats it

What beautiful neclaces! I will start entertaining outside soon, as soon as I clean up the pool area and replace the greenery! The weather is beatiful this week and I’m ready to grill!
[Reply]
March! Can’t wait to fire up that grill!!

We live in Oregon too and usually don’t entertain outside until late May. I enjoy your blog and the necklaces are beautiful!

As soon as the wind dies down and the grass dries out just a tad (sometime in April or May) my family comes over for a “picnic” style dinner outside. My grandsons Adam, 4 and John, 2 begin the day with a rousing game of “T-ball” baseball…it’s the best!
[Reply]
I start entertaining in May, as soon as it’s warm enough. We start cleaning up the deck in the beginning of April.
I just love spring!

We’ll be outside in May!

Usually by April the weather is warm enough to be outside consistently.
[Reply]
We start entertaining outside once it gets warm — say Junish here in Colorado. Of course, we always get that sunny day in mid-winter where the sun feels so delightfully warm that we pull out the outside table and enjoy lunch alfresco.

we love to host an easter day egg hunt and picnic. hope the weather holds up!
love the entry, how ingenious AND frugal!
good giveaway, great hostess!

I love June and October so that we have a better chance of not frying outside. One time I invited our whole neighborhood over and it was 105 degrees that entire week and we had to cancel. Now I’m Reluctant to set a date. Maybe that’s why I’m here–to find ways to get around obstacles like unbearable summer heat and whatnot.
[Reply]
We will be entertaining after temps get 70 or above.

I love reading your blog. We live in KY and entertain outside nearly year-round. (But we are not the norm.)In the winter we gather ’round the firepit with wine. The beginning of spring here is the KY Derby when everyone gets outside. Derby is definitely the “kick off” for outdoor entertaining. Thanks for the chance to win.

We live in Texas so we entertain outside anytime of the year….sometimes even in December!

Here on the Oregon coast…. it can be dicey entertaining outside any month of the year! However, typically May (with heavy sweatshirts) is when we first start cooking out : )

I start thinking of spring as soon as I start sseing the birds flying north again, and the crocus, tulips, or daffodils blooming! Usually Easter and Palm Sunday are the beginning of celebrations and entertainment.

I live in PA so it is very unpredictable…usually late April is the first time you can pretty much depend on it being nice enough but there are always beautiful days (like today) where you want to do it in March. Thanks for the opportunity to win !

So much of the year is brutally hot here in Southwest Florida so the winter months, December and after are usually ideal and beautiful for parties outside, not to mention a festive time of year!
