No More 70s Tile!

by Sandy on March 10, 2010

Entry way

This really should have been my Valentine’s post on how much I love my husband! Because look what he did for me?

When I saw the stack of leftover wood flooring from our kitchen remodel, I didn’t mean to make more work for him. No! I promise! But I couldn’t help but ask (beg!) for him to put the leftover pieces down over our ’70s tile in the front entryway. (We’ve known for 5 years the floor needed updating!)

Entry way

When Fred built and designed our home, he did a beautiful job. And the tile has held up for 30+ years, but it was time for a change!

We thought we were going to have to rip up the current tile, but we planned it out and didn’t. SUCH A TIME SAVER!

Old tile.

New floor.

Ties in nicely with this floor.

If you have a small area that needs redone, ask around to some friends who’ve maybe just completed a project, to see if they have any leftover material for you!

Entry way

Do you look for ways to use up leftover materials from projects?

(Don’t forget Lisa Leonard is giving away 2 beautiful pieces of jewelry. Enter today. Winner announced on Friday!)

Absolutely gorgeous!

We’re using the wide planks from our main level wood floors for a small area in out basement. :)

I love wood floors. We have the original terrazzo but it needs to be redone and brought back to life because the people who owned it before us had carpet over it so it has the carpet tack holes along the edge and is stained in the middle. It cost about $3000.00 to do it but when it’s done it looks beautiful.

That looks great! And yes, my husband and I are all about using leftovers here and there – our budget pretty much demands it.

And for those of you with 170 pound Great Danes and also wood floors … keep those toenails clipped! Learned that the hard way …

looks awesome! We always try to find use for leftover material, but at the same time my hubby always tries to get an exact amount. Now, when we were finishing our house, a friend of ours had some leftover, really nice linoleum that he gave us to put on the floors of our downstairs closets (our floors are cement and these weren’t stained and were the closets under the stairs and that housed the water heater)

It looks like you have darker wood floors with lighter kitchen cabinets? Is this correct? We have the lighter stained cabinets, but I LOVE dark wood floors and wondered how that would look. Are you happy with yours? It looks good from here!

Hi Amanda, I absolutely love dark floors. We had them in our last house and I said I’d do them again! They are a bit darker than our cabinets, yes :)
