Today I’m giving away one of my friend’s new cookbooks: The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook!
I’m so proud of Erin Chase. She is one amazing lady!
Last week, when I went to the grocery store, the shopping part was not all that bad. But when I got home (I always call my kids ahead of time: Open the garage door and get ready to unload!) I realized the job that I really HATE is putting the food away! I don’t know why. It seems like it should be fun to get organized and be thankful for food to stock the fridge and pantry with. But I don’t enjoy the work of it.
Here’s how to WIN Erin’s new cookbook …
WHAT TO WIN
One copy of The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook, by Erin Chase
WHEN TO WIN
Come back on Wednesday this week, and see if you won! (Also, don’t forget to link up on Wednesday this week to Home is …! See the sidebar for more info. Share about a meal where you used “leftovers.”)
HOW TO WIN
Which do you like the least: Grocery shopping OR putting the food away?
Oh, and if you have kids, do they help out when you come home with a car load of groceries?
Good Luck everyone!

Hi, I'm Sandy. Five years ago I stocked up on beautiful glasses from the Dollar Store. As I started writing about dinner parties, I realized that this “icon” portrays a great message.

Definately dislike putting the groceries away. My kids will help unload the car if I ask, but there isn’t any spontaneous volunteering
[Reply]
I’ve been seeing that book around a lot lately. I’m intrigued by it.
To answer your question, I don’t mind grocery shopping if it’s not crowded and when I get home my 3 kids usually do come out and help me and my oldest daughter will help put things away for me, which I DON’T enjoy. LOL!
Have a blessed day my friend.

I don’t really love either — but I like to put the groceries away by myself. We have a tiny kitchen and if I let everyone help put away, then I open the pantry door and things fall out on my head. Or I get ready to cook and can’t find that one ingredient I just bought. So I love help getting everything out of the car, but after that — I need everyone to clear the kitchen for 20 minutes or so.
[Reply]
Definitely putting the food away! It’s so tedious. I actually really like shopping because I use lots of coupons and it’s fun to see how cheap I can get stuff for.

I too dislike putting the groceries away.
I honestly don’t know why. IF I’m really doing well and have everything neat and tidy before hand it doesn’t seem like such a big deal, but lately my life is so hectic that nothing feels organized or under control.

I like the shopping, but not the unpacking. The kids help only if asked. Have a great day!
[Reply]
i hear ya. BUT i found a way to minimize that issue a couple of years back. Put the items on the belt in groups the way you want them bagged, and make sure the bagger bags that way. Pantry items with pantry items, bathroom toiletries in one bag, etc. I think i’m going to go one step further though and put my kids initials on the reusable grocery bags so they know which ones they have to put away.

Probably putting away the groceries, and yes my kids help unload!
[Reply]
I think I don’t like the grocery shopping part, because it’s so overwhelming and there are so many choices. It’s fine when I have a list to go off and stuff I buy regularly, but if I’m looking for something specific that I haven’t bought before, it can be stressful. Putting groceries away isn’t a problem because I like things to be organized and in their place. Don’t have kids, but hubby helps bring them in and put away the heavy stuff and I do the rest.
[Reply]
I would rather put away the groceries than do the shopping… This way I know where all the stuff is. I have 3 small kids and they ‘try’ to help put away, but finding yogurt in the pantry a few times puts the kibosh on that. And all the kids help bring in the groceries.
[Reply]
I don’t mind the shopping part at all…but, with 2 flights of stairs, getting it in & then put away is a beast! Usually just try to get the ‘cold’ stuff in first, put that away – then get the other stuff in. Putting that away usually takes a lot more time!
[Reply]
I must be weird because I do not dislike either much but if I had to choose I think that I dislike be putting it all away the most and, yes, the kids help me bring it all in and even help me put it all away. So does the hubby when he is about.

I definitely hate putting the groceries away. We all hate it. The kids were really enthusiastic about it in the beginning, but as time goes on they realize it is a chore. There should be some magical “app” that you click on and voila they are in the cabinets and fridge in order and lovely. Ahhhh, that would be the life!
[Reply]
I despise grocery shopping, My husband recently had a heart transplant.. so I find myself in the store for hours looking at labels trying to find things he can have ( and finding them on sale is even more difficult.) Putting them away is the easy part!
[Reply]
I hate putting away groceries. I only shop with a list (and know where *everything* is at my store), so I breeze right through the shopping part!
I shop during the day when my son is at school, so no help there!
[Reply]
Putting the away is my least fav. I LOVE grocery shopping, especially when I can go by myself and feel like I got a great deal with sales and coupons. Putting them up is usually done by my wonderful husband when I get home to help me out!
[Reply]
I hate cleaning the fridge before I put away. It takes forever to put away, but I hate to shop, I like to stay out of the stores. LOL!
[Reply]
LOVE grocery shopping, HATE putting it away! Although I hate brining it all in more than I hate putting it away….lol!

I absolutely hate putting the groceries away. Luckily my husband doesn’t mind doing it. Our children do come out to help when we bring the groceries home.

I HATE grocery shopping and to me it includes…. planning and making a list, putting the groceries in the cart, on the belt for the checkerout person, bagging them, putting them back in the cart, putting them in the truck, out of the truck and hauled into the house and finally put away! UGH. Ridiculouso how much hands on is required to buying groceries. LOL
[Reply]
Worst part of grocery shopping, long lines, and having to bring in all those groceries!!!
I have a one year old, so she doesnt help out too much!
[Reply]
I hate putting the stuff away!! And my son usually comes to help, daughters, not so much.
[Reply]
I enjoy the shopping part especially when the sales are good but unloading is dreaded. I have 3 kids 3 and under and they try to help but there is only so much they can do and they are really just looking for something yummy to eat and when they find it they abandon me.
[Reply]
I dislike putting the groceries away more. I can get help bringing them in, but I don’t get any help putting things away.
[Reply]
Glad to know I’m not alone in my dislike of putting away groceries! I try to put all the refrigerated items on the belt together so they’ll be sacked together. When I put the bags in the car, I put the refrigerated items on one side so, if I run out of steam before getting everything into the house, I can make sure I put the refrigerated items away immediately and leave the rest for later in the day.

My kids are great at helping unload the groceries. They even empty the bags onto the counters to see what good stuff I got. Not great at putting away. I always quicly put stuff into fridge or freezer, but sometime hours later stuff that needs a home is still on the counter. I do not like that. Then I’m trying to get dinner going and still needing to finish the putting away. Yuk! I never realized it till I read what you wrote, but it is the putting away that stinks! And I think my kitchen is fairly large and very well organized. What is my problem???
[Reply]
I really dislike putting groceries away. My kids do help..if that’s what you call it.
[Reply]
DEFINITELY dislike putting away the groceries more!!! no kids to help but my kitties LOVE checking out the bags when I get home to see if I brought home any goodies for them (which of course I always do!)
[Reply]
I don’t mind the grocery shopping, but do not enjoy bringing it in and putting it away. My boys always help to bring the groceries to the table so I can organize and put away.
The book looks great!!!

I like the shopping but also do not like the putting things away. My kids do run to help bring the bags into the house…..but only to dig through quickly and see what kind of snacks they can find.
[Reply]
I hate putting it away. We are so limited on space, I have to get creative in storing stuff! I like buying the groceries though. I find it fun trying to see how much I can save and how many coupons I can use!!
[Reply]
While grocery shopping can be challenging with a 4 year old, an almost 3 year old, and 6 months pregnant, I dread putting them away. The girls aren’t really old enough to help me carry the groceries in, so it involves a lot of trips while trying to keep little fingers out of all of the bags!
[Reply]
I don’t mind grocery shopping too much — now that my kids are in school and I can go during the day without too much craziness! However, with that comes the fact that when I get home, it’s ME that has to do all the unloading and putting away. That is the chore I don’t like!!!

Oh it’s a toss up – money is VERY tight in our house (actually money is almost non-existent!)…..sometimes grocery shopping just reminds me how tight the money is. BUT I think putting it away is hands down less appealing!
It seems the pantry always accumulates NON food items (sidewalk chalk, bubbles, shoes, books, buckets, cars, those reusable bags I seem to forget) and that means a grocery trip requires the pantry to be re-organized before I can put groceries away! LOL
[Reply]
putting the food away! If I get right to it and get it all done… great. If I don’t, it has a way of staying on the island for a day or 2 and it looks terrible!

I like the shopping, especially seeing how much I can save. Putting them away is okay but liked the least of the two. And I have a 2 yr old & 3 yr old so their “help” can add to the frustration but I’m working on patience
[Reply]
I enjoy grocery shopping esp. when I don’t have to take my two kiddos with
…they like to help a bit too much! The putting it away is the part that is not so fun! This cookbook looks wonderful!!
[Reply]
Actually a little of both but I really hate the shopping part I only shop every other week and the cart or carts get really hard to push. If my kids are home they will help unload because they get to help pick out what we will have for the week. I have noticed it also helps them pick the right kinds of food to eat. They know we need a protein and a vegetable and maybe dairy or a starch but they also know that they cannot do things like a baked potatoe and corn that’s a double startch. any way hate shopping and yes my kids and hubby help unload and pit away
[Reply]
Can I say both? I’m not a huge fan of grocery shopping at all! But if I have to choose it would be the putting away part, schlepping them out of the store, then in the car, and then in the house & then putting them all away. What an exhausting process!!!
[Reply]
I dislike the grocery shopping unless Hubby comes along. He is a big help, especially if I forget or can’t find something, he will search the store until he locates it, then I can finish the shopping. I love putting the groceries away. I bag my own groceries, that way like items are bagged together – ie frozen, refrigerated, cleaning supplies, laundry, bathrooms, etc. so it is much easier to put away. I, also, stock up on paper products and laundry detergent then I don’t have to shop for them very often. Thanks for the giveaway.
[Reply]
Definately putting the groceries away! I LOVE shopping, it’s like a challenge! And my reciept has become my score sheet since I’ve started couponing (= I always tell my hubby “Since I just saved us X amount, how about you put them away?” LOL
[Reply]
I HATE putting away the groceries. My shelves seem to get smaller week by week so I end up having to cram things onto the shelves or into the freezer and hoping the doors close!
[Reply]
I definitely hate putting it away. When my five older kids were all home they usually did it. Now that there are only two older ones left at home and they have very busy lives I actually have to do it now…so that reminded me of how much I truly HATE putting up the food!
[Reply]
I LOVE to grocery shop! I usually get up really early and start. When I get home everyone already knows that have to come out and help pack them in! I figure it’s the least they can do considering I plan out the menu, I shop for all the groceries, I put them all in the car, I put them all up, and eventually I cook them all
I don’t mind putting them up if I’ve reorganized my cabinets before I leave, but if they’re all a mess I hate it!

I actually enjoy the grocery shopping (most weeks), but like you, I LOATHE putting them away…I have three boys (ages 5, 7, 9) and they still ignore me when I’m yelling, “can I get some help here?!” The 9-year old is starting to become more helpful…hopefully it will rub off soon!
[Reply]
I’m with the others on this one… putting groceries away. Especially it’s hard when you’ve got a party planned and you have perishable items to find a place for in your (already full) refrigerator. I’ll let my 6 YO put away canned/boxed items into the pantry to help but, not ready to hand over the responsibility of perishables as some days he “forgets” to follow through with his assisting.
[Reply]
My least favourite is definitely putting the groceries away, I love the shopping part!! I have a 3 year old who is just starting to help put things away (when he’s in the mood), he likes doing the cans.

It’s definitely putting it away. My daughter is great with this. She has organized my stockpile & knows where everything is (I have to get her to get things out when I need them) I put things in the fridge & freezer, she does the rest. What a blessing she is! She is also a great help at the store. I don’t know which one of us gets more excited over the totals.
[Reply]
Putting away the groceries is the worst part! I wish I could wiggle my nose and they would magically be put in there place.

My least favorite chore when bringing home the groceries is definitely getting the veggies washed, dried and stored. It’s easy to put away the freezer stuff and the dry goods, but cleaning those veggies just seems like such a pain. Sandy, I think I got this tip from you – placing items like parsley, celery, asparagus, standing up in a mug or jar with just a wee little bit of water and tenting each with a plastic bag surely does keep them fresh longer – which means less veggie shopping and putting away. Yeah!
[Reply]
Definitely putting them away! I usually go to the store alone as it is the only time I am alone!
[Reply]
Right now, I dread the grocery shopping because it’s such a process- the kids with their backpacks, the stroller, walking a few blocks, carrying everything down a long flight of stairs into the place and then we can begin. Thankfully, they’re used to us now, and know my children won’t be terrors. I’ve had to hand things back twice because I didn’t have enough money with me in this cash society which is embarrassing. Then I load the kids up and my own bag, we haul everything back up the stairs and trek home. Since it’s what we can carry, we have to do it more than once a week. Y.U.C.K.

I would rather do the food shopping! I usually do the grocery shopping … and then the hubby comes out and gets it. If you think about it, you put the food in your basket, then again at checkout, again putting it in bags and putting into cart, and then putting all into your car … taking it out bring it inside and then putting ALL away! Fun Fun Fun!!!!
[Reply]
I woud have to say putting groceries away because after shopping, I’m always in a hurry to get home, quickly put the food away and then usually, fixing something for a meal. Then after clean-up of the meal, I go back an divide family packs of meat for the freezer. Since my children are grown, I call my husband on my cell and ask “him” to watch for me cause I’m almost home and need HELP with unloading! Even though my children are grown and have families of their own, they visit often…so my “unloading” never ends.
[Reply]
Definitely putting the food away! I hate, hate, hate it!! Altho, come to think of it, the shopping is bad, too…

I’m just like you. I don’t like putting the groceries away at all. When I’m about 2 minutes from home I call my kids and tell them to get ready to come outside and help get the groceries in. None of our neighbor kids help out at home but if they are over when I get home, they always help out too.

I really dislike both, but the worst is putting the groceries away. I do love the thrill of the hunt and the rush a great bargain gives me, but somewhere along the way, I still end up spending too much!!??!! I alone do the shopping and put away the groceries…I do enjoy shopping alone, but would appreciate some help from my family putting things away. Some input on menus would be great, too!! I am hoping to be inspired by winning the book!

I always have the kids help me unload the car. They are usually happy to because they check out all of the new food that they want to eat…immediately. With three kids ages 12-16 they seem to be always hungry!

I had to laugh the other day, I live in a 3rd floor apartment, and always have to carry the groceries by myself since my son is only 4. I hate to put the groceries away – most of the time I have to unload the car by myself, but sometimes hubby and son will help, but all they do is bring them into the house and plop them on the counters – my job to put away. And, if anyone puts anything away, I can never find it! I’ve lost a pair of kitchen shears that way – don’t have a clue where they were put.

I’m with you. . . I don’t mind the shopping, but putting things away is not something I enjoy.
Maybe we should turn grocery-putting-away time into prayer time. “Thank you, God, for this food. Thank you for allowing me to purchase this on sale. Thank you that I had a coupon and was able to get this for pennies. . . .” What do you think?

Ummmm….maybe I’m weird. I actually like both, for the most part. I guess the part of shopping I don’t like is the budget being so tight that I really have to think through what I buy and often bypass some items that I’d like to get. I usually do not like help putting things away because I use it to get organized. They do help me unload, and now when they shop with me I’ll give them each a list of items and they go and get them for me.

Shopping is my time to get away from the house since I work at home and am a mom too. It relaxes me. I must say that unloading the groceries is a fun time for me because my three boys help. It is so cute watching my 2 yr old trying to carry a cereal box into the house when he can bearly see over it, but he loves to help! My least favorite is taking the groceries out of the bag and putting them in the cupboards. Sometimes it gets put off until the next day. Why? I already spent an hour at looking at the food in the grocery store, reading the labels, comparing prices, etc. Who wants to look at them again after that and organize it all? Ugh!
[Reply]
I used to dread putting stuff away until I started making a mental note of what was in my cuboards “and duh” using it!!! Now I actually have room to be organized! Since I have started planning my meals and grocery list using the $5 dollar dinners and a few other sites my grocery shopping has been more enjoyable (I also only spend about $350 a month for a family of three including cleaning and diapers and wipes) and my 2 year old loves repeating back to me how much everything costs and putting it on the check-out stand. I actually hated unloading the car! (I do shopping for 2-3 weeks at a time) But now that I am pregnant I am “forbidden” from doing that and just call my hubby when I get close to home and he comes and gives me curbside service! Also shoping with reusable bags generally saves me 5 cents for every bag and I can carry more (well he can) without the fear of bag breakage. So my vote is LOADING AND UNLOADING THE CAR! Especially when trying to make sure I don’t turn my whole grain bread into a flat bread! I love the $5 dinners because I can feed several of my husbands military friends (He is a Marine) for just a few dollars and the gratitude I get from them not having to eat in the Mess hall is more then worth it!

I really don’t mind putting the groceries away, it’s the shopping I can do without.
[Reply]
I think I like putting away the least, but I really dislike both. I would love for a fairy to shop for me and load in my pantry and fridge completely like all the professionals have on the food network!
[Reply]
I don’t mind the shopping or the putting away of the groceries. Call me wierd. But if I had to choose, I’d rather shop than put everything away.
[Reply]
I’d love to spend less time meal planning/coupon organizing/grocery shopping. If someone would do all that for me (all while staying within a reasonable budget!) I would be happy to put it all away when it walked in the door. Not asking too much am I???
[Reply]
I do most of the shopping at the house so I haul everything into the house and put the groceries on the counter & my wife gets to put it all up so she can see what I bought
[Reply]
I don’t like shopping for groceries! But I do love shopping.
So husband buys and I put everything up
[Reply]
I don’t mind shopping, especially if I’m by myself. With both kids… not so much. But I really HATE putting things away.
Would love, love, love to win this!!!

Our deal is the boy’s unload and the girls put away, not because I enjoy it, but know I will need to find it:)!

For sure the shopping…

I actually like grocery shopping but putting the groceries away is a little less exciting!
[Reply]
I HATE putting the GROCERIES AWAY!!! Idk why just always have. That and putting laundry away, ack!!! I’ll drive to the store, do ALL the shopping even load it into and out of the car. But, when it comes to PUTTING IT AWAY!!! UGH! I do have two children who help bring in the groceries and my hubby does put most of the groceries away for me. I handle the meat and frig stuff. It works for us.
[Reply]
I LOVE to grocery shop, but I have the family help put groceries away…because I am less than thrilled to put them away…to say the least!
[Reply]
Love shopping. Putting away – not so much.
Thanks!

I’ve gotten to the point I don’t even like getting in the car to go shopping! I used to not mind shopping but now I find it a chore. When my kids were babies there was a premier home delivery service in the SF Bay Area called Webvan – I loved them. At the time it was because we lived in an area that didn’t have certain items I could always get on Webvan and because my kids are 16 months apart and were babies at the time it was nice to not have to take them both to the store. Now it would be nice so I wouldn’t have to go to the store as often. I never did like the Safeway service…

I don’t like shopping or putting the groceries away but I enjoy cooking and baking so guess I have to do both

Definitely putting them away– especially when I come from Sams Club or Costco.

That’s a toughie. I think I hate putting them away more than buying them. The whole ordeal makes me tired.

All four of my boys help unload the van full of groceries! I’m thankful! Maybe they are just hungry and want to see what I bought? LOL!
I enjoy putting everything away more than the shopping. I think it’s the organizer in me…liking to see it in neat rows in the pantry, etc. If I don’t win this book, I’m looking for it to buy!

I loathe putting it in the car, taking it out of the car and lugging it into my house and down 14 stairs. Then putting it all away; especially when I buy in bulk… ugh.
Thanks for the chance to win this cookbook!!!
[Reply]
Putting the food away….but I think that’s only because I’m tired from shopping.
[Reply]
I enjoy grocery shopping, especially when I leave the kids at home.(It usually costs less when it’s just me shopping.) Putting away is another story entirely. Fortunately, my #3 child loves to bring the bags into the house and find a place for everything. I think she feels like an authority when I have to consult her to find things, but it’s one more job I do not have to do!
[Reply]
I love shopping, hate carrying it in and putting it away. Usually I can find a kid to help out around here tho and that helps. Especially if they find a treat in the bags.
[Reply]
I dont really mind it! As long as it is not shopping at Wal-Mart at the end of the day…. torture.
[Reply]
I hate putting away…unless my fridge is totally cleaned and has lots of room.
My kids are still little but I’ve been getting them to help carry in the lighter stuff like bread and toilet paper. They know where to put some things too.

It’s definitely going to the grocery store. I need to be a more organized shopper. We live in a small town, so selection is not always great. I don’t mind the putting away, because I like organizing it all.

I like putting away the least, but that may just be the “help” of my 18 month old making it difficult to keep the bread from being flattened and the eggs crushed! My other two do help as much as they can both at the store and at home, but they are also pretty little. When one is old enough to drive, they’ll get a list and the car keys, and money, and I’ll stay home!

I don’t mind the shopping or the unloading of the groceries! I loath having to put them up! My 3 kids 12,14,16 act like it is the end of the world when I ask them to help unload the groceries from my car!! But when they are ready to eat, look out! Next time they can so shopping, pay & bring home the groceries and put them away!
[Reply]
Grocery shopping inspires me and allows me to imagine all the wonderful meals I can create. Putting away however is when I realize I forgot to purchase a vital ingredient for that night’s dinner.
[Reply]
I really hate putting the food away. I think its because I realize how much time I actually spent at the grocery store and am tired when I get home. I have my hubby help me carry things in. At least with the shopping lists and carrying in he helps. Beyond that its just me putting stuff away most of the time. Another reason its not my favorite part.
[Reply]
I don’t like the grocery shopping because I have a baby now. Before, it would’ve been the opposite. But now, I have to make sure the baby is changed, fed, & happy before I load her into the car and then pull her out and get her into a cart, keep her entertained as I shop, checkout, make sure strangers don’t breathe on and/or touch her….ugh. Then loading her back in the car, loading the groceries, deciding whether to leave her unattended in the car while I return my cart (can you guess what I usually decide?) Makes me tired just thinking about it! Whereas when I get home, into the Bumbo she goes and watching me put away groceries is entertaining!
[Reply]
I dislike the shopping more than putting the groceries up…I really don’t like either, but would rather put up the groceries if I have to pick!
[Reply]
I don’t like the shopping. I have a one year old so it makes it a bit difficult! Her new favorite game is to try to pull as much off the shelves as she can. So being at home putting away groceries is much better!
[Reply]
Definitely putting the food away! I don’t have kids, but the hubby is usually nice enough to help!
[Reply]
I most definitely prefer the shopping over the putting away:) And yes, my family does help me carry stuff in, thank goodness!

I don’t mind the shopping part as much as I used to. Since my Mom stopped driving she goes with me, and I enjoy it a lot more. My kids do help unload the car if they’re here, but I put everything away myself…not at all fun because it seems to take forever to do.

For me, I would say it has to be equal dislike when it comes to both parts of this chore. I dislike grocery shopping so much that I plan to drive my daughter to school every Friday morning at 7 so I am up, dressed and get to move on to the dreaded grocery shopping chore bright and early and get it over with. When I show up that early, I am one of a handful of people there and I LIKE IT THAT WAY. I am usually a pretty social person, but I am absolutely not at the grocery store to socialize. I am there to get the deed done and get the heck out of there! I am on a mission and to get in and get out (recently, I actually got done in 12 minutes – yes, I clocked myself – and was wishing there was an award for this feat). And, along those lines, I shop our local store backwards so to speak. For some reason, there is a right and wrong side of the store to start on. Not sure why. The frozen and refrigerated foods are smack dab in the middle of the store, so technically you can start at either side and your cold foods won’t be affected. But, the left side of the store, by the produce is the “right” side to start on. Therefore, to further cut down on the possibility of socializing, I start on the “wrong” side. Think about it, when you start on the “right” side of the store, and you see someone you know, you will see them in EVERY aisle and feel that awkward obligation to converse every single time. Nope, not me. I see someone I know ONCE. We cross paths and they go on with the normal flow while I am going against the flow (how weird am I??? Don’t answer that). And, then, once I get the chore done, I too call home to warn the troops that I am on my way (my husband and I work at home, so 80% of the time, he is available to unload – yay!). Whoever is home has to come out and unload from the car. I still get the unlucky chore of putting the groceries away and sometimes the “dry” items loll around the kitchen in their bags the entire day until I muster up the desire to put them away, but I never let it drag on past the evening. So, ugh, I am right there with you. Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite chores – right up there with cleaning the toilets.

I am not really fond of anything to do with food, except the eating part.

I prefer the shopping part for sure! I am usually exhausted by the time we get home so putting the food away isn’t as much fun! My kids do help put the food away though!

Since I am disabled, my sweet sister does my shopping. So I don’t mind helping her put it away. But I did find her a neat little handle in one of those gift books. It will hold several bags on the hooks and she carries it with a good solid padded handle. This has cut the number of trips from the car into the house. No kids to help.
[Reply]
I don’t mind the shopping so much, but the unloading? Well, that’s another story! Hate it. I love to organize, though, so the “putting away” part is easy for me.
[Reply]
I think my least favorite part is the putting of things away. I do not mind the shopping or even the laundry so much….I just hate putting BOTH away! I have the kids help with the laundry part….but I like to know where the groceries go! They can hunt around for the socks they put away in a weird place…but I want to know exactly where the chocolate was hidden in the pantry!
[Reply]
Putting the groceries away for sure!! My son is too young to help now – but as soon as he’s old enough he will be
[Reply]
I definitely prefer the shopping to the putting away. But to be honest, the putting away isn’t the worst. It’s some of the aspects of that….the portioning of chicken breasts to freeze, or the cutting of the melons for storage & quick snacking, etc. That’s the part I really dread the most!
[Reply]
I don’t mind the shopping as it often is my only quiet time during the day without kids. I never like putting anything away – groceries, laundry, etc. I have young kids – and haven’t involved them yet in the putting away process.
Great giveaway! Thanks.

I definitely like shopping better than putting away. I have a very small kitchen with no space. For example, my kids are sick and right now my kitchen floor has numerous bottles of gatorade I have no space in cabinets for!
[Reply]
I totally dislike putting groceries away. I like to shop especially by myself. I like to think of what all I can cook. Then I get home and am too tired to cook!
[Reply]
I love them both! I can kill hours in the grocery store, comparing prices and thumping melons. And as a former Army logistician, I get all giddy anticipating reaching into the back of the Forester and trying to remember which bag has the ice cream or milk and need to go in first, which ones have eggs and bread and need to be handled carefully, and which ones have five pounds sacks of flour or sugar or rice that might rip my arm off. I treat unpacking like I’m on a game show and the clock is running.

I hate putting groceries away, too. My children would say that the worst part is bringing them in from the car. “Why do you buy such heavy food, Mom?”
[Reply]
yes! The kiddos always help with groceries. We’ve got a routine… one puts away the cold things, one takes over the pantry and the other does the toiletry items. Perfect! The hardest thing about groceries for me is finding the time to go to town and get them.
[Reply]
Hate putting away! Kids “help’ sometimes. Usually hubby ( I shop on Sundays) will do it, since he did not have to shop!
[Reply]
Putting them away is what I dislike. I somewhat enjoy the challenge of shopping (?). But once I get them home, I would almost pay to have someone put them away for me. Have you thought about just how much we handle the groceries. Take them off the shelf and into the cart, out of the cart and onto the conveyor belt, then they are bagged (sometimes by myself), the bags go back into the cart, out of the cart into the car, out of the car into the house, out of the bags and onto the shelves/refrigerator. What a workout!
[Reply]
Don’t really mind the shopping part, but I can’t stand putting them away!
Of course the kids help! : ) They are 9,6 & 3. I sort into “put away piles” – freezer, fridge, pantry, shelves and we each take a pile!
I’d really love a copy of the book!
Thanks!

It’s been forever since I’ve paid your blog (one of my very favorites) a visit! Life has been a bit of a whirlwind.
A good one.
I would much rather shop for the groceries than find a spot to put them in my cramped pantry and overloaded fridge.
And yes, I have my little ones (though they’re only 3 and 4) help me with bringing in the groceries. They get a sticker on their chore charts for helping.

bringing it in from the car and putting the food away! my kids do help with this but i have already thought about each item, found each item, put it in the cart, unloaded it onto the belt, put it back in the cart, paid for it, put it into the car, and now i’m STILL not done! oh yes, i am!!!
seriously, i, too, try to focus on God’s bounty and provision.

I think I like lugging the bags from the car into the house least of all. If my son or hubby are around they will lend a hand, which is a blessing!
I love shopping at grocery stores and have a minor hobby of visiting supermarkets when I travel away from home to other states. I’ve found some real treasures outside of NY.

Since I coupon I LOVE to grocery shop and see what bargains I can bring home and I kind of like to put most of it up,too. But if I have to choose I’d rather shop then to put it away, my kids 2, 10 & 14 help out most of the time bringing bags into the house and putting them up for me
[Reply]
I enjoy grocery shopping but finding the time is so difficult!? Putting it all away is not nearly as enjoyable, but looking at an organized cupboard or fridge (when that actually happens) is rewarding!! Yes, definitely make the kids (ages 15 and 11) help….when they are home!?
[Reply]
I love shopping, but I hate putting things away. Something that has helped me with the task is to get everything out of the bags first. Then I can put the refrigerated stuff away, then come back in a half hour to put the rest of the things away in the cabinet.
