Yard Sale Art – Look for Uniqueness & Quality!
Why buy art at yard sales?
Â
Why not?! Â Because if you get tired of it, or you find you’re redecorating a room, or maybe your styles have just changed over the years – having not spent much money on the art makes it very easy to pass on, to sell at your own sale, or to take to Good Will.
Â
I look for UNIQUENESS and quality, when I look for art at a yard sale.
Â
Like my 2 Kathe Kollwitz prints.
Â
It’s a rather humorous story, how these 2 prints ended up in my home. Â Years ago, my husband and I were out and about yard-saling. Â We thought this “one” print was unique, so we bought it.Â
Â
The NEXT year, we ended up going to the same home and we found the 2nd print. Â Of course we snagged it for $5, and we told them we had purchased the other print the year before. Â The people said they turned their house upside down looking for the 2nd print (not realizing they had sold it the year before), so they could sell them as a pair.
Â
Little did they know, or did we know, that WE were meant to have this set.
Â
Do you ever look for unique art at yard sales?

Those prints are so beautiful! They make me want to go wake up my baby and give him a hug :)

I haven’t found two matching prints a year apart, but I have bought something back from a thrift store that I had donated! So lame.

That is truly a meant to be story :) If you look at some of my recipe posts you can see one of my yard sale paintings in the background. It is so much fun to find a treasure and bring it home.

Sandy, you have inspired me to look for things, to search and find a wonderful treasure. I don’t think I”ve ever bought any art at sales. I just haven’t done it, but I’m going to start looking now (C:

Great story and art! I agree with you about buying art that you are not married to it for life! Recycled!
Years ago I took my Mom to a book sale at her library and they were selling some of their framed prints also. We picked up a few and then came across an original oil painting in a nice frame. All for a few dollars. We also scored a bagful of wonderful books that we both enjoyed and passed along to family and friends. That day is still a great memory for me.
I love those prints. What a find. Anymore I have to ‘be in the mood’ to yardsale, but usually find something I love. Where in your house are these hung? I can’t ‘picture’them.
Happy Sunday Sandy.
Such a funny story…and beautiful prints. So precious!

I had the print on the left in my room growing up! I always loved the picture…I wonder what happened to it?

Great story…I so agree on this…pay a little…then it’s not a big deal to change it out! Hop over and share this with all of us at my PAR-TAY!
Blessings,
Linda
Hey, Sandy, that is a great story! I’ve found so many great pieces of art at yardsales myself. I love this set. And what a funny story that is.
Thanks for linking up!
