Summer Entertaining: More Time with your Guests – 2 Signed Copies “The RE” GIVEAWAY!

I love to talk about savvy entertaining, which means smart and efficient, but to me it also means simple. Sometimes in the summer time the days are so full, it’s hard to want to spend time in the kitchen.

Here is a TIP: If you don’t have a tray to carry out your dishes to the back patio entertaining area on, USE A BOX! Or even a laundry basket will work.

It’s also way too easy to remain in our comfort zones and not try something new, so we tend to fall back to our signature dishes in the summertime, which I say is A-Okay!

In my new book (hardback, colored photography), The Reluctant Entertainer, the book is not only full of recipes, but it also offers a savvy approach to help women break free of the anxieties that keep them from opening their homes!

My go-to menu in the summertime is often this:

Appetizer: Cheese, crackers and fresh fruit. Maybe chips and salsa for the kiddos.

Main Dish: BBQ and marinate the day before or early in the morning. Or try my very easy “last minute” Sweet Savory Steaks, also included in my book.

Prepare anything you can the day before.

Salad: Straight from our garden (or take advantage of your local Farmer’s Market!)

Dessert: Store bought pound cake (Brad’s Strawberry Coulis) and fresh fruit is perfect for guests, with little time in the kitchen and more time to spend with your guests.

With easy summer entertaining you can enjoy watching your kids while they play in the back yard! My kids are growing up, as you can see, but I had years of entertaining with little kids. Years …

Now on to the GIVEAWAY!

2 WINNERS
Win a signed copy of The Reluctant Entertainer. (Read more about the book, here.)

Do one of the above to have 2 chances of winning. Two of the above to have 3, etc. (Come back to tell me.)

WINNER on FRIDAY
Come back this Friday and I’ll announce the winners!

ANSWER THIS QUESTION:
Do you try new recipes in the summertime or do you pretty much stick to tried and true, oldies but goodies?

The Reluctant Entertainer is now in most book stores, and also available here on my blog if you would like a signed copy. Mela Kamin is also giving a copy away over at her place today. Check out Mela, singer, songwriter and speaker – HERE - for another chance to win!

Well, if you must know…here is my confession. I love to try new recipes -anytime really- especially on my guests. ((gasp))

Here is how or why. I know that most guests are gracious enough to try anything. Judging by the “empty or not so empty” dish – I can tell if it was a hit or not. Rather then just my husband and I working to finishing it off… there is a better chance of dish/recipe getting cleaned up with a lot of folks.

Mind you… I do it all in good taste. ;)

I would love to win a copy of your new book! Thanks for this opportunity. I do enjoy trying out new recipes in the summer and just tried one yesterday…it was a success! We tend to have more company in the summer and I especially enjoy making up salads and desserts to put in the refrigerator ahead of time…then it is easy to sit back and have a relaxing visit when company arrives and my husband takes over grilling the meats and etc. I have found that a nice bowl of fresh strawberries sitting on the table makes a pretty and tasty starter. (or any other seasonal fruit) Dessert can be as simple as ice-cream floats…everyone loves it!

My husband is the one who loves to try new recipes! Well, he doesn’t usually use recipes, but he’s great at trying new things.

A few weeks ago I tried a new key lime pie recipe; it was wonderful. The next week I decided to make a lemon icebox pie, and I was thinking that a crust made of gingersnaps rather than graham crackers might be wonderful with the lemon. And it was wonderful–but apparently if you use gingersnaps you need different amounts of butter and sugar than you do with graham crackers. That crust was SO HARD! My 17-year-old said, “The flavor’s great, but you need a jackhammer to eat it.” Sad but true! :)

It would be an embarassment of riches to win a copy of RE but I would do a giveaway to celebrate my 4th year of blogging.
    Congratulations Sandy!

Too hot to be cooking indoors. So I try to keep to the old and true favorites for our young household.

I love the idea that it is about the company and not the food! That is what you remember.

    Sandy,
I have been away from the blog for a bit. I wanted to stop by and say congratulations on the book! I am so excited for you! What an amazing journey. I love my trays – I started buying big trays about 7 years ago. It is so much easier and looks so great to have everything you need on a tray. As for summer entertaining, I always like to have the core around tried and true recipes but always throw in at least 2 new recipes to mix things up – don’t want to bore anyone!
