Harry & David’s Harvest to Holiday and Martha Stewart’s Gift Basket GIVEAWAY

Last month I was able to visit Harry and David’s business in my hometown, Medford, Oregon. Harry and David are fabulous gift givers–I know because I was given a beautiful Harvest to Holidays gift basket featuring Martha Stewart’s new book Pies and Tarts.

I want to let readers know that Harry and David offers many baskets on their site, where you can choose which one and price works within your budget! It’s a very beautiful site and easy to navigate through.

But let me back up a bit. In the afternoon of our visit I was able to actually tour the gift basket department, as we got to make one of our own. Harry and David is trying to give an entire gift experience, so the packaging and the personalization of the gifts is important.

So lovely.

I adored meeting Pauline, who has worked at H&D for years. She even knew my 92 year-old Auntie who was a retiring supervisor (she devoted her life to H&D) just as she was coming to work there, many years ago.

They have a very elaborate process for packing the baskets and it goes like this.

You follow a chart, pack the basket, and then tuck the plastic around the basket so it won’t unravel.

There’s always a personalized note with the name of the person who packed the basket.

The ribbon gets tied and then a beautiful bow is wrapped around the basket … the finished product! (Every single bow is hand-tied to perfection!)

Here’s my friend, Sarah, who lives in Portland, Oregon and blogs at Go Gingham. We were basket-packing partners and had a great time together.

And Selena, from The Farm Chicks, also working with Pauline.

Because I’m excited to share the bounty and my H&D experience with my readers, I asked H&D if I could give away the same Harvest to Holidays basket away on RE, so are you ready to WIN?

And are you ready to kick off the holiday hospitality season?

Harry and David’s Harvest to Holidays gift basket is a perfect gift for the person who loves hospitality. One lucky winner will WIN this beautiful basket (value $139.95) which includes the following items and Martha Stewart’s Pies and Tarts cookbook. Thank you H&D!

6 Royal Riviera® Pears
3 beautiful Apples
Truffles (4 oz.)
Mixed Nuts (4 oz.)
Milk Chocolate Moose Munch® Snack (10 oz.)
Three-Seed Crackers (4 oz.)
Sharp White Cheddar Cheese (5 oz.)

I’m in a cookie exchange, and will most likely make molasses spice cookies for that. They taste much like gingerbread, but softer and less fussy to make.

The first thing I made for CHristmas is my husband’s family’s traditional Christmas cake – a blond one with all the candied fruit in it – it ends up looking like stained glass windows, and we always make it November 11 – Remembrance Day in Canada, or as close as we can get. As for sharing it – we always put it out as part of the dessert plate once about mid december hits – it has to sit in the fridge for a month first.

Well, here we are entering baking season big-time (which in our house includes several birthdays as well!) and my oven is broken! Dear me! But it should be up and running by this weekend when I shall bake an apple and a pumpkin pie to bring with us to my mom-in-laws for Thanksgiving. Another definite on my list for after Thanksgiving are mini pumpkin and date-nut breads that I wrap and give away to teachers, co-workers, friends, etc.

The very first thing I will bake are nut rolls. It is my Mom’s recipe and we always made them together and gave them to the neighbors for Christmas. I have carried on the tradition with the first going to my sister and then co-workers and neighbors as well. Making them always takes me back to my childhood and the warm fuzzy memories of sweet time spent with my Mom.

I make my mom’s cookie recipe. I lost her at a young age, so, this recipe is a special tradition during the holidays. They’re called “Butterhorns” . Basically a sour cream/butter rich pastry dough rolled out and cut in narrow triangles then rolled up with a sugar/cinnamon/ground nut mixture. I make hundreds :)

Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie for my beautiful daughter away at college (It is her favorite pie and I miss her.) and Pumpkin Spice Biscotti for my neighbors and children. My children love this amazing Pumpkin Spice Biscotti which my sister makes for Mission Biscotti …”Reaching the World with Good News and Good Taste”. It is her own company that she built to raise money for medical mission trips to Jamaica and other impoverished places in the world. My sister Pam Cappelletti works tirelessly as an ICU Pediatric Nurse and then comes home to work on her non-profit Mission Biscotti business to continue to serve others. If I won this basket, I would like it to be sent to her.

the first thing I hope to making is cookies and brownies for the troops… those need to be sent soon to arrive beforehand…I am also searching for a good tutorial on how to make pie in a jar recipes and where to find the specialized jars for them!

I’m making chocolate bars to share with my family, and pumpkin pie to take to a gathering. I don’t have any plans to give away.
