Holiday Entertaining with KitchenAid, Pottery Barn, Hip Hostess GIVEAWAY!

My family knows the holidays are here when I pull out my KitchenAid stand mixer and start baking.

One of the easiest dessert recipes for entertaining, which I think is festive for any holiday, is to make an angel food cake roll.

The possibilities of what you can roll up inside that angel-goodness are endless! And, you can get about 16 servings per roll! (See recipe ideas at the bottom of this post.)

Because we believe in HOLIDAY ENTERTAINING, one of my first-ever blogging friends and I are teaming up together for a FABULOUS giveaway.

Do you know Melissa from The Inspired Room? :)

One winner will WIN all of these items. It’s true! Just like Christmas! (Oh, it is almost Christmas) :)

Melissa and I strongly value hospitality, so we want to help and encourage others to OPEN THEIR HOMES for the holidays–to share their homes and lives with others by putting the lies of perfectionism and our silly excuses and our unfinished homes aside–to OPEN OUR LIVES TO LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP.

Most of us know that entertaining is all about the people. And good food (and appliances) always help!

My Angel Food Cake Roll is really easy, and a favorite holiday dessert. It’s perfect for Thanksgiving (you can see I used pumpkin ice cream), but it’s also easy and festive for Christmas. How about chocolate chip mint ice cream or peppermint? You could even layer some rich melted chocolate inside – and then FREEZE!

My sister was over (I love baking and cooking with my sisters), so she helped me roll it up. We let it cool, then filled the inside and FROZE. Part of the excitement of holiday entertaining is having family over …

Remove from the freezer and SERVE. Endless recipe ideas (see below links). ENJOY!

Melissa and I have awesome prizes from Kitchen Aid and The Hip Hostess and a $100 Pottery Barn gift card (from us!) to give one lucky winner a fun pre-holiday shopping spree so you’ll feel prepared for entertaining.

Aren’t you excited? I am!

  103. Chocolate Pecan Pie hands down.

  105. I love the Inspired Room blog……. now I love you too!

  106. How generous! I definitely must try this recipe, down south it doesn’t get quite cold enough for the ice cream to be a deterrent! I usually stick too baking enormous batches of cookies to be eaten over the holidays. Simply glazed, so that counts as easy!

  107. I love making all sorts of Christmas cookies. It is a family tradition to get together and bake….and then give platters to friends and family after our Christmas party since I definitely don’t need to have that many cookies tempting me in my own house!

  120. This recipe looks so yummy…similar in style to pumpkin roll! Great giveaway, too!!!

  121. First of all this is a great giveaway… thanks!
As far as desserts go I know that cheesecake isn’t the easiest but it’s usually my go to because it is decadent and I have yet to mess one up. I also love that it is so versatile so you can make pumpkin cheesecake or oreo cheesecake, etc and it always feels special.

  122. What a terrific give-a-way! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

  128. So awesome! Thanks for the giveaway.

  129. I love to test recipes, so that is what I worry about most…One of my experiments not working out : )

I have a wonderful fresh homemade green bean casserole that I was told I can’t mess with, so I suppose that is the go to recipe for Thanksgiving.

  130. I fear entertaining at my home and all the potential perceived judgment that goes with it. I have a goal to have a social hour at my house once every quarter.

  131. One of my go to holiday desserts is Caramel Pecan Cheesecake Pie. Yum!

  132. I love entertaining at our house, having everyone over makes me so happy!

  133. Great giveaway and Great site! I love entertaining and get such good ideas here!

  134. Around the holidays, I keep the desserts simple and use millions of Christmas cookies. I tend to start baking on December 1, so I always have a ton. No reason to make more work for myself when I already have sweets!

  135. I love to entertain at the holidays, and am hosting a cookie exchange in just two weeks! The great thing about the cookie exchange is that you walk away with a variety of six dozen delicious cookies! Always great to pull out of the freezer and serve to holiday guests. :-)

  136. Thanks to you and the Inspired Room for this awesome giveaway! Happy holidays!

  137. I love entertaining during the holidays!

  138. I love to make apple crisp as a last minute dessert for company

  139. Hi Sandy…Wonderful blog…With Melissa for Inspiration & you for EnCouragement–maybe this Reluctant Entertainer will finally ‘party on’! Passing on your roll-up recipe to my husband the house chef…love the Angel Food base.

  140. Love the cake roll information. It’s been forever since I made a Christmas Log cake for Dhristmas dinner. I just might do that this year!

I have two “go to” holiday dessert ideas that use frequently during the holidays. The first is everyone’s favorite – Christmas cookies and coffee. I start baking Christmas cookies in late November (this year is perfect with Thanksgiving early) and freeze them. I have 4 standards that I make every year – wedding cakes, sugar cookies, lemon bars, meltaways – I like to get this done early so I have a good supply on hand for last minute gifts.

The second quick dessert is ;peppermint ice cream cookie bars. Each cookie bar requires 2 large chocolate cookies filled with a scoop of peppermint ice cream. We make them in the morning so they are nice and chilled for later. Serve with coffee or tea. Tasty and fun – and a hint of summer at the holidays.

    Happy entertaining!!!

  141. I don’t usually worry about food, I always end up experimenting with new recipes around Thanksgiving, especially desserts. Because of that there isn’t a go to recipe, it’s always something new, and almost always involves chocolate for my husband!

  142. What a great looking recipe! Looks delish!! Definitely printing and going into The Christmas Book…Thanks!

  143. I’m new to your blog but can’t wait to try the pumpkin roll. Yes, the holidays are the greatest. Getting together over food and fun is the best way to spend it with those we cherish most.

  144. I love to entertain but don’t often have the chance to because my husband works two jobs. We always have family here Christmas Eve and our traditional meal is Prime Rib which all the men rave over.

  145. I really would like to entertain more than I do….but I am scared!!! Just the thought of it stresses me out and overwhelms me!!! And I don’t have any white plates or Dollar Store goblets!!! :( I really need to gain some more confidence in this area….(perfectionism/co-dependency issues from the past still linger!)….and while I think I have read like every word on your blog, I really need to get your book!!! We are hosting a family Christmas morning breakfast at our house though….maybe I’ll have time to get to the Dollar Store before then!!! Oh, and thank you so very much for the give-away opportunity – it’s awesome!

  146. I *DO* stress out about holiday entertaining and what to make. Traditionally, for the main dish, I make a lasagna.

  147. Just over from The Inspired Room…mind if I look around? Thanks for the opportunity! ;)

  148. I was looking for a recipe for a rolled cake!

  149. I love baking butterscotch spice cookies out of spice cake mix! They are simple and always hit the spot.

  150. I love it when the recipe is accompanied by pictures on how-to. What a delicious recipe to try!

  151. I love getting together with friends and family, but absolutely hate getting my house ready for company. The perfectionist in me gets very distracted and then nothing gets done as it should. However, I have to keep reminding myself that my guests really don’t care if I cleaned out my refrigerator or buffed the water marks off of my hard wood floor! Thanks for the giveaway!

  152. The angel food cake roll looks yummy – thanks for sharing the idea! :) And I totally stress about parties, which is why we don’t do too many, but hubby always makes them turn out great. He’s amazing!

  153. Yumm-o! Looks delicious. Holiday season makes my heart smile!

  154. I worry about all of the effort is takes to cook only to have something not turn out well.

  155. Thanks for the giveaway. That cake looks wonderful. I’ve never attempted a roll cake. May have to do this. Thanks!

  156. You have great ideas, and I love your site! And really, who couldn’t use a little help in getting ready to entertain folks this season? :)

  157. We love entertaining. I love having a clean organized house and my husband loves to cook. We have three young kids and love opening our house to other families and keeping it kid friendly:)

  158. I don’t stress too much about holiday planning because I find a home overflowing with love and laughter washes all woes away! I do usually have a small panic moment about having the correct amount of food and drink for the guests. We find you can’t go wrong with bubbles to drink and many bite-sized treats, both sweet and savory. Happy Holidays!

  159. This is such a great giveaway! I been wanting a Kitchen Aid mixer or so long!

  160. Thanks so much for the great contest!
Love having all the family around for Thanksgiving and the holidays. Being able to use cherished recepies handed down generation to generation is my absolute favorite thing! Lane Cake, Rum Balls, Nutmeg Balls, Strawberry Pretzel Salad……..YUM!

  161. I love reading your blog and getting inspired about entertaining. I love having people over and have enjoyed reading your ideas. My friend recommended your book to me probably in September. I ordered it and loved it and have since starting reading your blog, including the archives. I love to go into a warm home and visit there and I hope to make my home also the kind of place people could come over and feel the same warmth and love. Thanks for the inspiration.

  162. This is my favorite time of the year. I begin looking forward to it on Dec. 26th each year. (already waiting for the following year’s holidays to hurry up) The KitchenAide mixer was actually on my Christmas list last year and I didn’t receive one…just rolling that item over to this year’s list. Thanks for the awesome give-a-way opportunity. Blessings to you this Holiday Season.

  163. I worry that I won’t please everyone’s palates, but then again you can’t please everybody! Sticking with a basic favorite recipe is always safe. A go-to easy recipe for the holidays are my mothers giant ginger cookies – they’re always a hit!

  164. I have enjoyed reading your entertaining ideas. A friend recommended your book to me in September and I ordered it, read it, recommended it to alot of my friends and have since started reading your blog – even the archives. 181. I love entertaining during the Holidays, and throughout the year! One of my favorite dishes to make for guests is Beef Bourgounion. I can start it early in the day and let it bake in the oven, or simmer crock pot. It makes my home smell wonderful and everyone loves it!

  193. I love entertaining! I love feeding people lol… You can’t come to my house and not have something to eat. The only thing keeping me back right now from fully enjoying it is the lack of funds since hubs lost his job…. Thankfully my friends and family don’t make it an issue. However, I know I can’t afford to do as much as I like or am accustomed doing.

  194. I want this so bad! What an awesome give away!

I’ve never not had folks to my home because of “whatever”…when we first moved here, we were DEEP into renovation and I’d set up a card table, grill chicken and serve the “Old Tabbies” luncheon. No walls, no windows, no doors, no problem!

  272. I do love to entertain at the holidays ! This is my favorite recipe from my Mom and her tradition that is now up to me. We call the cake the Yule Log and it is a cooa jelly rill cake with whipped cream and sometimes fruit in the roll. Everyone loves it and now I think I will try yours, as well1

  273. I just finished reading your book and was so inspired. In fact I requested our local town library purchase it and they did! This book is going to be my go-to “bride gift” from now on. I tend to be a “homebody” and don’t entertain much. I am not a very good cook, but I am challenged by what you wrote. it doesn’t have to be perfect and the benefits of blessings others outweighs the imperfections. My goal is to begin with inviting someone once a month as I build up my “stand-by” meals. Right now my stand by dessert is a 4-layer chocolate pudding dessert: a crust of chopped nuts/flour and butter, a cream cheese/Cool Whip/Powdered sugar covering over the crust, middle layer of choc pudding and a top layer of Cool Whip with some choc. shavings for decoration. Adults and kids alike love it.

  274. Love the recipes! Thanks for such a fun site and great pix!

  275. My husband and I love to entertain. He is a chef and I love to work on the menu with him and get the house ready for guests. We love to open our home to others :)

  296. Thank you for all the good information on this blog.

  297. I love getting new recipes to try out during the holiday season. Part of the fun of the holidays is cooking recipes from friends and loved ones that have been passed down to you. So when people compliment them you can say “Thank you, this is my Aunt Mitchie’s fudge recipe. It’s so easy – would you like it?”. Helps you connect to family and friends that may be far away during the holidays.

  298. my easy dessert is cupcakes. They dont take long but they can be so pretty and you dont need plates or forks.

  299. My family of 4 has been living in an apartment for 6 months while we build our new home. I have missed entertaining so much. We are scheduled to move in Dec 21! Ahhhhh. 300. Holidays are so much fun, and that cake looks delicious!

  301. I love baking when I host parties. Cakes are my favorite things to make.

It’s super easy and everyone always loves it!

  305. We are in the process of buying our first house, in which I cannot wait to entertain. I’m hoping and praying we are in it in time for a Christmas party. I already have an imaginary menu in my head, so I’m not stressed about it at all. :) Cupcakes are my go-to dessert!

  306. Thats a wonderful giveaway. Just like the holidays..:)

  307. Entertaining over the holidays is my favorite!

  308. What an exciting giveaway!!!

I typically have delegated desserts, but have made them as well….I have done the “log rolls” as we call them before because they are so easy. I like your pumpkin ice cream filling idea and may need to try that next week . I also make a cranberry apple casserole that really is more like a dessert “crisp” then a side dish.

I usually don’t have a problem knowing what to cook for holidays and we often go to my inlaws because my mIL loves to have everyone at her house so I typically will do rolls or a side dish.

  321. I entertain a lot all year long. But I never make dessert. Mrs. Smith and Marie Callendar’s make good enough desserts for me, but this pumpkin roll actually looks do-able. Thanks for the idea.

  322. Sandy this giveaway is so fabulous!!! Thank you for the opportunity :)

i do not worry at all about what to cook for the holidays, I LOVE it. I don’t have one go to recipe, but one go to idea that people seem to always love if I don’t have time to cook or bake something, is serving different, build your own elements. Like Bruchetta for savory, (even store bought tapenades and spreadable cheeses seem to impress people when presented beautifully!) Or lady fingers with berries, nutella and sweet ricotta for dessert. I just served that last minute a week ago and everybody was happy :) Whew!
    Blessings to you sweet sister,

  323. Being a younger member of my family, the bulk of the holiday cooking does not typically fall on me. However, last year I made these delicious gingerbread cookies with a white chocolate center that just might become a staple!

  324. I’m usually in charge of appetizers when the holidays roll around. (One of the perks of being a newly-ish-wed, I suppose, is that no one expects you to know how to roast a turkey yet!) One of my favorite easy holiday desserts is Pioneer Woman’s peanut butter pie. SO delicious and SO easy! :)

  325. What a great giveaway!! Angel Food Cakes are a favorite since I usually have egg whites in the freezer left from making noodles. The current favorite angel food cake flavor is pumpkin. We also like orange coconut using fresh/frozen coconut.

  326. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  327. I also love cooking with my sister. We live together right now, so it happens a lot! It’s funny, anyone else gets underfoot in our tiny kitchen but the two of us are so in synch that things work perfectly!

  328. Love to entertain! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  329. I love trying new recipes this time of year, but pumpkin dump cake is something I often serve unexpected guests. I always have the ingredients on hand, it is quick and easy and always gets rave reviews. An added bonus…it makes the whole house smell divine!

  362. I always go all out with holiday baking! My go-to easy recipe is sugar cookies!

  363. Love holiday cooking and the angel food roll looks like a great one to try. I hope I can win this to help my Olivia start her cupcakery. Thanks!

  364. I definitely over-think menus! I have a super simple chocolate mousse recipe that is always a hit!

  365. I have a LOT of entertaining anxiety. My biggest fear is that no one will come. Twenty-five years ago (I know, LET IT GO) I had a Tupperware party. Only three friends said Yes and two called at the last minute to cancel. That’s right — ONE friend came. O-N-E.
Now I have five kids and a grandchild and lots of other extended family and I still worry about no one showing up. Why am I holding onto that memory????
Baby steps, baby steps: I will ask everyone to bring a little something, and ACCEPT that it’s a little crowded, and just MARINATE in your blog until I’m saturated with the RELAXING FUN that entertaining can be.
    It’s not about me…..

  366. I LOVE hostessing during the holidays! Having friends and family over to celebrate is one of my favorite things.

  367. I do stress a bit when it comes to planning what to make, I like trying new recipes and they don’t always work as planned. My EASY go-to holiday dessert is pumpkin pie. It’s not everyone’s favorite but I love it, and it’s a breeze to make.

  372. I love brownies as an easy dessert; it’s easily dressed up with ice cream and fudge, or a salted caramel sauce! Love it!

  374. I love to do buffets for entertaining. Like a soup bar, taco bar, loaded baked potatoes etc. Everyone is happy and super easy. For christmas I love to just have a tray of assorted cookies I’ve baked. I bake all season long and just put out a few of each on a tray.

  375. You are making me hungry. This looks super easy as well.

  376. No, I don’t worry about what to cook for holiday entertaining. Since it’s a traditional time, we’ll usually just make turkey or ham. And my easy go-to dessert is Birthday cake for Jesus. :-)

And this angel food cake roll looks fabulous and easy. I can’t wait to give it a try! Thanks, Sandy.

  377. I love all the celebrations that are a part of Christmas! And having grandkids makes it even better!

  378. I don’t worry about what to cook, it is more like, how to get it all done and on the table and hot at the same time. Choosing what to serve is the fun part!

  379. No, I don’t worry about cooking for the holiday get togethers. I grew up observing my grandmother and one of my aunts cooking from scratch and making wonderful meals. One of my go to recipes for the holidays is banana bread which everyone in the family loves. I keep boxed brownie mix on hand for an easy chocolate fix. I also make other desserts that take a little more time and care.

  380. Yum! That looks delicious. I think I’ll try it.

  384. I love to have friends over to visit – and will sometimes use the “excuse” of a party to get things done around the house that I’ve been needing to do! Giving myself a deadline always helps. But when it comes time for the party, I love to just hang out and visit and not stress about everything else. We tend to keep food and drinks simple so we can all enjoy.

  429. yummy!! thanks for the chance to win such wonderful prizes! love your blog..

  430. I always worry about how to pick a menu that is do-able and special to everyone for the holiday, then we have to consider quanity – what if everyone wants ham and no one wants turkey? Oh well, it’s a great giveaway and everyone would love your angel food cake roll.

  431. I’ve been married for 30 years and STILL don’t have a kitchen aid mixer. keeping my fingers crossed!
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  433. I plan a menu in advanced and then buy everything so at least that isn’t an issue. I love breakfast casserole in the crockpot for breakfasts!

  435. What a great giveaway, to have a Kitchen Aid mixer would make me so happy, Thanks!!

  436. I make sweet potato pie with graham crust or pastry crust. Its so simple.

  437. I have a great sugar cookie recipe I make every year that is my husband’s favorite. :)

  438. Thanks for the chance to win!

  439. Love the angel food roll idea. We just finished that same pumpkin ice cream. Now I have an excuse to get some more.

  440. Thanks for the angel food cake roll recipe. It looks really easy!

  441. I love to entertain at the holidays, but I must admit that I get stressed about it very easily. It’s hard to keep the house clean for guests with little ones running around!

  442. I do stress out over menus a bit–due to the fact that I want everything to be PERFECT! I always have a tin of my white chocolate cashew clusters on hand for drop in guests or for gift giving. I have never given them to anyone who didn’t ask for the recipe.

  443. My holidays got much more relaxing for me when I decided that instead of feeling bad about all of the things that need to be done/replaced in my house- it is a blessings that I can have people over and not worry about scuffs and spills!

  444. I no longer worry about entertaining now that I have adult children to help me out! Our family’s favorite, easy holiday dessert is hot chocolate and warm, home made cookies. Easy to do and satisfies everyone!

  445. Love your blog. Love the cake roll and instructions! Great giveaway! I feel like I am at a party when I read your blog! Thanks

  446. My go-to EASY dessert? Chocolate Eclair Dessert:

It’s one of my most sought-after blog posts, but everyone loves it. Not fancy but DElicious!

I’d love to win this prize pack; my daughter managed to bend my beaters to my mixer years ago and it makes an awful racket (I can’t find replacement beaters :/). But…everything else? Ummm, yeah…I’m crossing fingers, toes, eyeballs….. ;)

    And I love Melissa, too!

  447. This Thanksgiving and Christmas will be fun because of your 2.5 year old GrandDaughter!

  448. My favorite Christmas recipe is molasses cookies. These are so sweet and simple.

  449. I had to go gluten free last summer, and I’m always nervous now whenever we have company that people are going to judge my baked goods (dinner is so much easier to do naturally g.f.) or desserts, especially as I always loved baking before.

  450. I need to let go of worrying about perfectionism and just invite people over for the holidays. I’ll be relying on you for encouragement! :)

  451. I love entertaining my family for Christmas!

  452. My most memorable holidays was during the Vietnam War. We were Marine hosts and shared our home during the holidays with young guys on they way over. Standard fare, tons of it, but those days were filled with joy.

  453. Totally amazing giveaway and just in time to help during the holiday season! YOU ROCK!

  454. Love your blog.

  455. I love to entertain at Christmastime.

  456. You have inspired me to entertain more often, thank you!

  457. I just love your Blog and I really love this giveaway! I have wanted a KitchenAid for a very long time. I so hope I win, I have severe carpal tunnel and this mixer would really help. Once again I will cross my fingers and hope I win it. I love to entertain!

  458. I posted comments on both Blogs.

  459. I don’t worry about what to fix for Holiday entertaining when it comes to the actual Holiday, because my sister and I work on the menu together and split up the dishes. It’s all the parties and in-between get-together that often stump me when it comes to what I should fix. With blogs like yours and Melissa’s, and all the cooking magazines to choose from – it overwhelms me. But, it usually turns out just fine! And my favorite go-to dessert is called Chocolate Peanut Butter Squares – it’s so simple and easy – and gets “rave reviews”!

  460. As a planner I tend to overthink everything about entertaining, including the menu. But there are so many resources out there now (plus the overflowing collection of cookbooks in my kitchen!) that there is no shortage of ideas – narrowing it down is my trouble! Pinterest helps me get a bit more organized and my go-to dessert is my great grandmother’s apple cake :-)

  461. That looks so tasty! I think I’ve made one or two jelly rolls cakes in my lifetime…like when I was a young married girl and had all the time in the world to impress my new hubby!! :)

  462. Excited to try out some of your ideas. Thanks for sharing!

  463. What a great giveaway!

  464. Great recipe and great giveaway!

  465. My go to dessert is SO easy. 1 Oreo pre-made crust. 1 carton of slightly melty Eddy’s Peppermint ice cream. Pour into crust. Top with cool whip & crushed candy canes. Refreeze. Devour :)

  466. I would love that KichenAid! It would make entertaining so much easier!

  467. Thanks for the giveaway! I love having people over to my house to entertain!

  468. I love to entertain-always planning the “perfect” party with the “perfect” food and the “perfect” decorations…I have high expectations to getting everything done, then the panic sets in, the people come and go, we have a great time, good food and in the end all is good and most everyone truly appreciates your effort and they don’t know what you didn’t get done! Love your site!!

  469. My desire for perfection makes it hard for me to entertain but our home is where most of the get togethers happen! I need to step back and realize that I am the only one that expects that and that our friends and family love me and just enjoy the company!

  470. The angel food cake roll looks yummy!

  471. I love to entertain! I love having friends and family over and I love to bake!

  472. This is a party time of year for sure! I absolutely love it and you! What a fantastic giveaway!

  473. We do lots of baking during the holidays and also have lots of people over!

  474. I love to entertain. I have a small house but can fit 6 here easily so aim at smaller gatherings more often. I do occasionally have a larger group. I go back to old favorites but branch out…I often change recipes and develop my own flavors…..I love Angel Food Cake in any form so this may be one I use this year. Blessings….love your ideas.

  475. I don’t so much worry about what to cook but worry that people won’t let me try something new. I love to add cranberries to an apple pie or let my 4 year old make her special baked apples.

  476. That angel food roll looks divine! I tend to stick to appetizers and recipes I’m comfortable with, but I’m going to try to branch out this year.

  477. So glad to find you! This is good reads.

  478. What a wonderful giveaway… Thank you for the opportunity to enter :)

  479. I don’t know if I “worry” about it so much as just trying to match up guests/seasons/foods for a great gathering…I find it to be kinda fun. ;)

  480. I am so dying to try the Angel Food Roll and just wanted to let you know that you’ve inspired me to try entertaining more during the holidays even though the house is not perfect! Thanks.

  481. Thank you for the give away.

  482. First time visitor.
Love the name of your blog! I guess that is how I feel about entertaining. But usually when it is over, I am glad I did it and had a good time.

  483. Angel Food roll-up looks really good!

  488. I love cake rolls! They look so festive. I would sooo love to win this prize and share it with a friend who needs a few things.

  489. Since my Mom has always done the holidays, it’s just about stress as a child helping out. But there are a few go-to recipes, like mandelbread, that we always have.

  490. I’ve never tried a cake roll with ice cream. My interest is piqued, especially with pumpkin!

  491. amazing.. that roll looks so good!

  492. love making desserts…and serving coffee. our favorite way to host at the holidays.
cheesecake is my favorite one to make…..

  493. I don’t really have one special dessert. I like ice cream–french vanilla to go with apple pie at Thanksgiving and for children who just love it and not so much the pies. I usually have some Christmas cookies that make an appearance and I like to have peppermint ice cream on hand. Then I like something very chocolate like frosted Death by Chocolate brownies.

  494. There is nothing better than entertaining family and friends for the holidays. It makes it that much more special.

  495. You can never go wrong with fudge!!!
    What a great contest.

  496. Hooray! What a fabulous excuse to eat ice cream in the middle of winter (or fall)! This looks delicious, and I love that you can adapt it for different seasons/occasions. Now I just need to find myself some pumpkin ice cream :) Thanks for this!

  497. Yum! I’m a first time visitor to your blog, and it sure looks like fun! I usually bring an apple pie to family gatherings, but I decided one year to add a cup of fresh cranberries and the result was amazing! I also love to bring pumpkin bread and banana cranberry bread. The tartness of the cranberries does fabulous things to your treasured recipes!

  498. I’m a first time visitor to your site, but I can see I’ll be back! Thanks for blogging your ideas and creations!

  499. I’m excited about this giveaway…it’s dreamy! lol :) Thank you. I LOVE hosting. I think a good favorite is to serve guests family favorite recipes…easy to depend on and comforting. <3

  500. Wow! That dessert looks amazing, and simple! My kind of recipe! I swore we were only having one dessert this year, but after seeing this I may have to change my mind!

  501. This looks sooooo yummy! :)

  502. I don’t worry too much about what to cook. My family has our favorites for each holiday, so I normally fall back on those! :)

  503. Oh yeah, if I were to win I’d make a cake roll but I have no idea how to decide on what flavor. Thanks for hosting the giveway! I don’t usually host anything at the Holidays but I make a heathy berry crumble I disquise as a pie that my family loves and they have no idea that it’s actually pretty healthy for them.

  504. I love entertaining, especially at the holidays!! Love your recipe too! You had me at pumpkin ice cream!

  505. This cake looks yummy! Great giveaway!

  506. I don’t worry about what to cook because I have some old stand-by’s. As far as desserts, I need some work in that area! White chocolate cranberry cookies come to mind though.

  507. Last Christmas, I baked 350 sugar cookie bars for my husband’s clients. When my hand mixer died in the middle of the endeavor, I borrowed my friend’s Kitchen Aid stand mixer and fell in love. Great prize package!

  508. Wow, those gifts will definitely help me to open my home for the holiday celebration! Lovely idea with a cake roll and ice cream. Makes it so delicious! :)

  509. Great idea. Love the kitchen aide, made in USA too.

  510. I would love any help I can get to have the perfect party! Love your help and the wonderful gifts to make it all happen.

  511. I love entertaining…especially for family. It’s what the holidays are all about!

  512. I’ve seen the rolling done with dishtowels but the parchment paper seems like it would be a better surface. I might actually try this!

  513. I don’t usually worry, but I have 2 chef’s coming this year. About 10 years ago there was a recipe in a local newspaper for a pumpkin cake roll with cream cheese filling. I make it ahead, wrap it in plastic then day of unwrap, sprinkle powdered sugar over it and slice for a beautiful platter.

  514. Looks yummy! Great giveaway!

  515. What a fabulously festive giveaway! My favorite tradition is baking cookie assortments for our family and friends. A beautiful red kitchen-aide would surely make it even more enjoyable. Thanks for the opportunity of a chance to win one! Amy M.

  516. I’m following your Holiday Entertaining board on Pinterest and also leaving an entry at the Inspired Room. Thanks again!

  517. This would be so great to help wow our guests at our house warming party for our new house!

  522. I wouldn’t say that I “worry” about what I cook for the holidays, I just try to plan a simple menu and enjoy cooking and eating with friends and family. My go-to desert? Always a simple fudge. So easy and so yummy!

  523. that looks delicious! And that giveaway? Ah-may-zing! Thanks for the chance!

  524. Great prizes

  525. I don’t mind entertaining but its the cleaning before hand that is hard for me! Especially with four kids!! ;)

  526. I love to have people over around the holidays. We usually have dinner and watch a movie. I have bigger get togethers in the summer since my house is small and it’s nice to be able to go outside.

  527. Just read your blog for first time and will enjoy returning often to read. Thanks for great contest!

  528. Great website and a generous giveaway–thank you!

  529. What a great giveaway…..I have your book. It is great. I’m not there as a comfortable hostess yet. Still trying!

  530. I love hosting, but usually have a “spaz” moment right before the big day. Luckily, my husband is a big help & I have you for inspiration!

  531. I love your blog! And the book…am slowly but surely trying to overcome my fear of entertaining. I always sweat every detail, but guests seem to love the results. I just need to simplify so I can enjoy myself more and not dread entertaining bc I overdo it and exhaust myself! Wonderful giveaway! Thanks so much!

  532. Oh– and pumpkin roll for Thanksgiving (can even freeze ahead) and brownie crinkle cookies at Christmas. Easy! :)

  533. This looks delicious!! I have to try this!! Thanks for the great idea!

  534. Entertaining is becoming a lost art. In our fast paced lives fewer people are willing to take the time. Thank you for inspiring us. It’s always worth the effort and the memories live on forever <3

  535. Thank you for encouraging us to entertain. It’s becoming a lost art in our fast paced lives. Many make excuses they just can’t be bothered anymore as it’s too much work. Keep inspiring, keep creating and sharing so as to encouraging others so the art of entertaining doesn’t become extict.

  536. I love to entertain. The best entertaining advice I’ve recieved is to remember that hospitality is all about making your guests feel comfortable by being laid back and welcoming. That might me simpler food and a not perfect house but I would rather be out with my guests than stuck in the kitchen stressing :-)

  537. I now have the courage to try a roll up cake. Wish me luck!!

  538. My go-to dessert… is a homemade brownie recipe that my family has absolutely worn out ever since my mom got it from a college roommate. It goes perfectly with ice cream and hot fudge, and is so versatile with nuts and things you can mix into the batter. :) Thanks for the great giveaway!

  539. Recently stumbled on your blog. Perfect timing- right before I host Thanksgiving!

  540. Came from pinterest to get the angel roll recipe and now I’m going to browse around. :-)

  541. Wonderful giveaway! Over here from The Inspired Room, which I’ve been reading for a very long time. I do love showing hospitality, but sometimes feel overwhelmed during the holidays, mostly because I want everything to be perfect. Lots of animals and kids mean it is never perfect:)

  542. I love to make a chocolate cheesecake! Have one in the oven right now!

  543. Fantastic giveaway! Holiday cookies are always fun :)

  544. This recipe looks so delicious. I actually do worry about what to serve because you can never make everybody happy. But if you stick to the classics, you can anticipate everybody will love at least one dish.

    Diana C

  545. I really don’t fret too much because our holiday is steep in traditions. My go to dessert is on chocolate yule log

  546. I don’t worry too much about holiday entertaining, generally it is family only and they have their favorites. Pies are big during the holidays but I like to through a pound cake or layer cake in the mix sometimes

  547. I always stress about what to cook for while entertaining! My go to dessert is my grandmother’s no-bake fudge meltaways. Very unhealthy, but very delicious and always a crowd favorite!

  548. The roll cake is beautiful. We have been thinking about upgrading to a nice mixer. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  549. thank you for the giveaway!! such a lovely gesture!! Holiday entertaining is a delight.

  550. What a lovely site! Angel Food for holiday eating seems quite appropriate!! Bless you both for offering the giveaway!! I’lll be back!!

  551. That roll cake looks divine. I don’t have a go-to holiday dessert…my mom takes care of that. Also, great giveaway! xoxo

  552. I am reading your book, and thought I would stop over at your blog! Great blog and what an amazing book! Just what I was looking for!

The Angelfood roll looks delicious and so easy!

  553. Pumpkin Dump Cake never fails to please! Simple and luscious whether served warm or cold, it embodies all the holiday flavors for my family and friends…

  554. I don’t have to worry too much about cooking at holidays. My mother and mother-in-law do most of the cooking. I do enjoy making breads and cookies for the holidays, though!

  555. I too am a first time visitor and enjoyed strolling through your site. BUT got really excited when I went to the new Holiday Entertaining site. I saw the pine tree sitting on the plate and I now have my Christmas dinner theme. I have a lot of the little trees and I am going to decorate them especially for my dinner guests who have hobbies that will make it a joyful task. Thanks for this site.

  556. I started keeping a notebook years ago with the tried and true holiday recipes that were especially popular with friends and family. We serve a lot of appetizers at our parties. I always try and get a good mix of hot and cold appetizers, and veggies and sweets. My go to holiday dessert? An Apple Crunch recipe I found about 20 years ago. I have guarded that recipe like it’s gold forever!

  557. Trying to resist the urge to have the house “perfect” before planning to entertain. The company is always the best part…

  558. Yummy recipe – I love the idea of chocolate angel food and peppermint ice cream. I’ll have to try that one! A lot of time my go-to desserts are bars or brownies since most of the time we don’t want a big heavy dessert after eating too much at dinner.

  559. Thanks for the great giveaway. This would help with the baking.
