Holiday Entertaining with KitchenAid, Pottery Barn, Hip Hostess GIVEAWAY!

My family knows the holidays are here when I pull out my KitchenAid stand mixer and start baking.

One of the easiest dessert recipes for entertaining, which I think is festive for any holiday, is to make an angel food cake roll.

The possibilities of what you can roll up inside that angel-goodness are endless! And, you can get about 16 servings per roll! (See recipe ideas at the bottom of this post.)

GIVEAWAY TODAY

Because we believe in HOLIDAY ENTERTAINING, one of my first-ever blogging friends and I are teaming up together for a FABULOUS giveaway.

Do you know Melissa from The Inspired Room? :)

One winner will WIN all of these items. It’s true! Just like Christmas! (Oh, it is almost Christmas) :)

Melissa and I strongly value hospitality, so we want to help and encourage others to OPEN THEIR HOMES for the holidays–to share their homes and lives with others by putting the lies of perfectionism and our silly excuses and our unfinished homes aside–to OPEN OUR LIVES TO LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP.

Most of us know that entertaining is all about the people. And good food (and appliances) always help!

My Angel Food Cake Roll is really easy, and a favorite holiday dessert. It’s perfect for Thanksgiving (you can see I used pumpkin ice cream), but it’s also easy and festive for Christmas. How about chocolate chip mint ice cream or peppermint? You could even layer some rich melted chocolate inside – and then FREEZE!

My sister was over (I love baking and cooking with my sisters), so she helped me roll it up. We let it cool, then filled the inside and FROZE. Part of the excitement of holiday entertaining is having family over …

Remove from the freezer and SERVE. Endless recipe ideas (see below links). ENJOY!

Melissa and I have awesome prizes from Kitchen Aid and The Hip Hostess and a $100 Pottery Barn gift card (from us!) to give one lucky winner a fun pre-holiday shopping spree so you’ll feel prepared for entertaining.

Aren’t you excited? I am!

No I don’t stress about holiday entertaining as I like to stick to what I know. Tried and true – OR I try new things but do heaps of research first. Google is my friend.

My fav easy desserts to make for guests would be flourless choc cakes (with ganache of course) or pavlova. :-)

I have learnt the art of entertaining from my mom. She loved a full house and thats the kind of house I grew up in. I think of entertaining and hospitality more as a legacy that I inherited from her :) Today, I love throwing parties. I believe that the presentation of the food you cook is as important as the cooking itself :) On any given day decking up my house to recieve guests makes me very happy :) Thank you for a fabulous Giveaway. Happy Holidays!!

i have a go to chocolate cake that i make. it’s really yummy and really easy! haven’t made it for a fall/winter holiday yet though bc my mom prefers to make pies. i’ve served it for some summer holidays though.

I constantly worry about what to serve and cook when I have guests – I make lists, sometimes test out things! My go to dessert is something easy and fool proof – non baking, because that can go wrong if i’m rushing…….so, a chocolate mousse with chocolate shavings and raspberries on top is always a hit and people like that it’s already portioned so they can indulge.

I love cooking and baking, and I am already planning my Christmas menu! Believe or not, my favorite easy, go to dessert is cheesecake. People are so intimidated to make cheesecake, but it’s so easy. There are so many ways to change up the flavors, and it must be made at least the day before serving so it’s perfect for entertaining. Cheesecake freezes beautifully, too!

Just found your site, love the ideas! My go to quick dessert for the holidays couldn’t be simpler. Cut dates in 1/2 (I use dried), insert a pecan 1/2, bake at 400 for10 minutes. Instant Pecan Pie Bites! Serve with any Fresh Fruit you have on hand or another quick dessert such as all that cookie dough you’ve bought from the Fall Fundraisers from the kiddos.

I love cooking and baking, so getting a menu ready for the holidays isn’t too much trouble. Two of our favorite desserts that I make for special occasions are pumpkin swirl cheesecake (which isn’t necessarily too easy, but definitely worth it…) and chocolate eclair dessert (very simple). I also make a bunch of goodies for Christmas gifts each year.

Love the cake roll information. It’s been forever since I made a Christmas Log cake for Dhristmas dinner. I just might do that this year!

I have two “go to” holiday dessert ideas that use frequently during the holidays. The first is everyone’s favorite – Christmas cookies and coffee. I start baking Christmas cookies in late November (this year is perfect with Thanksgiving early) and freeze them. I have 4 standards that I make every year – wedding cakes, sugar cookies, lemon bars, meltaways – I like to get this done early so I have a good supply on hand for last minute gifts.

The second quick dessert is ;peppermint ice cream cookie bars. Each cookie bar requires 2 large chocolate cookies filled with a scoop of peppermint ice cream. We make them in the morning so they are nice and chilled for later. Serve with coffee or tea. Tasty and fun – and a hint of summer at the holidays.

    Happy entertaining!!!

I love entertaining! I love feeding people lol… You can’t come to my house and not have something to eat. The only thing keeping me back right now from fully enjoying it is the lack of funds since hubs lost his job…. Thankfully my friends and family don’t make it an issue. However, I know I can’t afford to do as much as I like or am accustomed doing.

I’ve never not had folks to my home because of “whatever”…when we first moved here, we were DEEP into renovation and I’d set up a card table, grill chicken and serve the “Old Tabbies” luncheon. No walls, no windows, no doors, no problem!
We were here to enjoy each other and the beautiful view…and we did!

my goodness thank you so much for this :) I am so excited at the opportunity to win! I love to entertain and as I explained over at The Inspired Room for the past 7 years we’ve crammed anywhere from 30-75 people into our home for the Annual Christmas Party. We’ve smooshed and bumped, and sat on each other and laughed till we’ve cried and it’s been some of the best memories of my life :) In a bittersweet end of an era, we will be moving from NY to Colorado this year, and on our way to new friends, new memories, new smooshing and bumping and new friends to meet and celebrate with.

I didn’t even know Kitchen aid MADE a 7qt mixer, but wow, she’s a beauty! Thank you so much for the memories and the recipe, and the opportunity! <3

I just finished reading your book and was so inspired. In fact I requested our local town library purchase it and they did! This book is going to be my go-to “bride gift” from now on. I tend to be a “homebody” and don’t entertain much. I am not a very good cook, but I am challenged by what you wrote. it doesn’t have to be perfect and the benefits of blessings others outweighs the imperfections. My goal is to begin with inviting someone once a month as I build up my “stand-by” meals. Right now my stand by dessert is a 4-layer chocolate pudding dessert: a crust of chopped nuts/flour and butter, a cream cheese/Cool Whip/Powdered sugar covering over the crust, middle layer of choc pudding and a top layer of Cool Whip with some choc. shavings for decoration. Adults and kids alike love it.

I love getting new recipes to try out during the holiday season. Part of the fun of the holidays is cooking recipes from friends and loved ones that have been passed down to you. So when people compliment them you can say “Thank you, this is my Aunt Mitchie’s fudge recipe. It’s so easy – would you like it?”. Helps you connect to family and friends that may be far away during the holidays.

    What an exciting giveaway!!!

I typically have delegated desserts, but have made them as well….I have done the “log rolls” as we call them before because they are so easy. I like your pumpkin ice cream filling idea and may need to try that next week . I also make a cranberry apple casserole that really is more like a dessert “crisp” then a side dish.

I usually don’t have a problem knowing what to cook for holidays and we often go to my inlaws because my mIL loves to have everyone at her house so I typically will do rolls or a side dish.

Sandy this giveaway is so fabulous!!! Thank you for the opportunity :)

i do not worry at all about what to cook for the holidays, I LOVE it. I don’t have one go to recipe, but one go to idea that people seem to always love if I don’t have time to cook or bake something, is serving different, build your own elements. Like Bruchetta for savory, (even store bought tapenades and spreadable cheeses seem to impress people when presented beautifully!) Or lady fingers with berries, nutella and sweet ricotta for dessert. I just served that last minute a week ago and everybody was happy :) Whew!
    Blessings to you sweet sister,
    Sherri

I have a LOT of entertaining anxiety. My biggest fear is that no one will come. Twenty-five years ago (I know, LET IT GO) I had a Tupperware party. Only three friends said Yes and two called at the last minute to cancel. That’s right — ONE friend came. O-N-E.
Now I have five kids and a grandchild and lots of other extended family and I still worry about no one showing up. Why am I holding onto that memory????
Baby steps, baby steps: I will ask everyone to bring a little something, and ACCEPT that it’s a little crowded, and just MARINATE in your blog until I’m saturated with the RELAXING FUN that entertaining can be.
    It’s not about me…..

No, I don’t worry about cooking for the holiday get togethers. I grew up observing my grandmother and one of my aunts cooking from scratch and making wonderful meals. One of my go to recipes for the holidays is banana bread which everyone in the family loves. I keep boxed brownie mix on hand for an easy chocolate fix. I also make other desserts that take a little more time and care.

I love to have friends over to visit – and will sometimes use the “excuse” of a party to get things done around the house that I’ve been needing to do! Giving myself a deadline always helps. But when it comes time for the party, I love to just hang out and visit and not stress about everything else. We tend to keep food and drinks simple so we can all enjoy.

I don’t worry about what to fix for Holiday entertaining when it comes to the actual Holiday, because my sister and I work on the menu together and split up the dishes. It’s all the parties and in-between get-together that often stump me when it comes to what I should fix. With blogs like yours and Melissa’s, and all the cooking magazines to choose from – it overwhelms me. But, it usually turns out just fine! And my favorite go-to dessert is called Chocolate Peanut Butter Squares – it’s so simple and easy – and gets “rave reviews”!

As a planner I tend to overthink everything about entertaining, including the menu. But there are so many resources out there now (plus the overflowing collection of cookbooks in my kitchen!) that there is no shortage of ideas – narrowing it down is my trouble! I don’t really have one special dessert. I like ice cream–french vanilla to go with apple pie at Thanksgiving and for children who just love it and not so much the pies. I usually have some Christmas cookies that make an appearance and I like to have peppermint ice cream on hand. Then I like something very chocolate like frosted Death by Chocolate brownies.

Yum! I’m a first time visitor to your blog, and it sure looks like fun! I usually bring an apple pie to family gatherings, but I decided one year to add a cup of fresh cranberries and the result was amazing! I also love to bring pumpkin bread and banana cranberry bread. The tartness of the cranberries does fabulous things to your treasured recipes!

I love to entertain. The best entertaining advice I’ve recieved is to remember that hospitality is all about making your guests feel comfortable by being laid back and welcoming. I used to love entertaining but it’s become a bit more challenging since moving to a very small condo. However, I don’t want that to hold me back. During the holidays, I love to take out and bake many of my Norwegian recipes. I always make Yulekake and Norwegian waffles. These waffles are not breakfast food but dessert; yummy.
