My inspiration for this recipe today came from what I already had stocked in my fridge (yogurt),  and what we had in our pantry (caramel sauce). Layering these ingredients with a cup of warm caramel sauce drizzled on top, and topped with a finishing salt, was exactly what I was looking to serve for a light appetizer.

Salted Caramel Yogurt Dip with Mixed Berries

I love a good sweet and salty treat any time of the day. There is something about that sweet mixed with the salty that is just so good. This is a fun breakfast side dish to serve, too, if you’re hosting a brunch. Also, if you love salted caramel, you may want to try my favorite Salted Caramel Danish Puff recipe. This recipe makes 2 Danish puffs, and is also great for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients for Fresh Berries with Salted Caramel Yogurt Dip

This recipe is super delicious and so easy. All you need are these ingredients for this dip:

  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Mixed berries, such as raspberries, strawberries, blueberries
  • Caramel sauce (or make your own caramel sauce)
  • Triscuit crackers (or a salty cracker)
  • Sea salt or finishing salt

We keep this brand stocked in our kitchen, Maldon Salt, Sea Salt Flakes.

Using a good salt is essential for this recipe and cooking in general.

Salted Caramel Yogurt Dip with Mixed Berries

Instructions how to make sweet and salty caramel dip:

  1. Wash and prepare fresh berries and set aside.
  2. Spoon the yogurt into the bottom of a 9×13 pan, baking dish, or individual small dishes or ramekins.
  3. Layer the berries on top of the yogurt.
  4. Heat the caramel sauce on low in the microwave.
  5. Pour the sauce over the berry mixture right before you are ready to serve.
  6. Sprinkle with a flaky sea salt or a finishing salt.

Variations

I made this super simple salted caramel yogurt dip to serve with fresh fruit, but it’s also delicious with sliced apples. Particularly Granny Smith (tart) apples. Yum!

Change out the crackers for a sweet cracker or other salty crackers like bagel chips or pita chips (nice and salty).

Adding some caramel and sea salt to greek yogurt makes a nice skinny treat to snack on throughout the day.  This dip is perfect for dipping pretzels, salty crackers like Triscuit, or fruit in.
