On my recent trip to the Highclere Castle in London, I stayed at The Bull and The Hide: A London Boutique Hotel above a pub. If you’re looking for a more unique stay in London, then I have found the place for you!

When we arrived, we were greeted by Frasier, who immediately took our bags up several flights of stairs to our lovely suites. There is no elevator in this hotel, so be prepared for a pleasant workout.

Later we visited with James the manager, and Laura, who gave us fantastic service and care throughout our visit, and shared more about Hush Heath Hospitality, their winery and hotel and pubs.

The Bull and The Hide: A London Boutique Hotel

The Bull, a traditional pub, was bursting with people, and it was a fun, lively atmosphere!

Above The Bull is the dining room, The Hide. And then, tucked away above The Hide are seven luxuriously designed hotel rooms with en-suite bathrooms, 2 rooms with balconies. There’s a very cool city view, and quite honestly, we felt like we were in our own little world!

The suites.

The rooms are fabulously decorated, sparkling clean, with a view of “The Gherkin” outside the windows. The beds are large, with comfy bedding, firm pillows, with a luxurious and spotless bathroom adjoining, lovely toiletries, and a full guest pantry across the hall with complimentary tea, Nespresso coffee, water, beer etc.

I stayed in the Devonshire Suite.

I particularly loved the hanging branch from the ceiling, on which I immediately organized my clothing for my stay.

I loved the touch of classic books in the room, with reading lights by the bed.

The bathroom was very large, with a deep soaking tub, and a separate walk-in rainfall shower.

There were large, soft, fluffy towels, and I loved the touch of live succulents in the window sill. Of course I indulged in a “true London tub experience,” with a bottle of sparkling water by my side. It was heavenly!

The large flatscreen TV has Sky Channels, literally hundreds of satellite channels in many languages, which was a nice change. In other places we stayed, there were select channels, with not much to view.

I was traveling with Lori (RecipeGirl), who stayed in the next-door Hush Heath Suite. The Hush Heath Suite is perfect for a couple or young family, as it also has a couch with a pull-out bed, in a separate room down the hall within the suite. Plus, a lovely balcony, which they delivered wine to our room, where we sat and enjoyed the city view of Gherkin!

The Guest Pantry.

After we settled in, and enjoyed a bit of the city view, only a few steps down the hallway was the “Guest Pantry.” The pantry was shared by our 2 suites only, which means we didn’t have other guests coming into our space.

The pantry is a lovely touch, and was very welcoming after a day of walking and sightseeing. It’s 24-hour, with complimentary snacks of Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers (be still, my heart), and Jelly Babies, and packets of Walker’s Crisps (chips), For drinks, there were water, juice, soda, and beer in the fridge. All complimentary!

The coffee? I enjoyed several espressos, and got up early to work in my room. There was fresh cream in the fridge, and big lumpy sugar cubes for the coffee! What a treat!  Oh, and the free wifi worked well!

PS–I took several wafers home to my family. I couldn’t resist, because I wanted to share a little of London and my experience with them!

Breakfast in the pub.

The breakfast, which is a part of the stay, was really lovely, fresh, and cooked to order, served in the pub.

I enjoyed Eggs Benadict, but their scotch eggs and sausage roll was highly recommended!

Dinner at The Hide.

Hidden away above the Bull is their dining room, The Hide. There we enjoyed a lovely dinner in the upstairs dining room, beautifully decorated with a rustic decor. We had excellent service from the lovely Julia (who was from Italy).

This was my first steak to enjoy in London and it was cooked to perfection. I started off with Scotch Quail Egg, Pork Belly and Pancetta, and then enjoyed a grass-fed Angus Fillet Steak with Creamy Stilton sauce. Yum! My favorite dessert was their famous Sticky Toffee Pudding, but we also tried their Chocolate Lava Cake. Both were fabulous!

Nearby Attractions.

Nearby, there are so many attractions (many of them free), such as the Museum of London, and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. You can also climb 311 steps to the top of The Monument (which we did), to get a great view of London. There are also many markets nearby, like Old Truman Brewery Market. We shopped at TK Maxx, and popped in to a few other shops.

I loved how at the end of the day, as we climbed the stairs up to our rooms, we were reminded to slow down.  It’s okay to stop and breathe (it is a climb!). I appreciated the insightful message on the wall, that this place was about relaxing, rejuvenating, resting, and breathing! A good life lesson.

If you’re looking for lodging and delicious food with a non-traditional hotel feel, I can’t recommend this fantastic boutique hotel enough. I can’t wait to go back to this lovely place and bring my husband one day!

Thanks to everyone at the Bull and Hide for making my stay so welcome.
