Everyone on the internet seems to be inspired by one word for 2017! What is your word?
Having moved to a new town (which was very scary for me), the word that stands out in my mind is “friendship.”
“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.” –Albert Schweitzer
We started the day off right, on New Year’s Eve, with these BEST Graham Cracker Whole Grain Waffles.
Then my husband and I headed up to Edison Snow Pass, not far from our home.
Our mission: To snowshoe out to the warming hut, enjoyed a snack and hot chocolate, and to be really nice to the people on the trail.
It was a test. Say hello to people, and even stop and talk. Take our time, enjoy the beauty, and care about people.
It worked. We had the most delightful time! The first couple we met, she was from Israel, he was from England. And then it went from there, lots of Bend people, but also lots of vacationers.
Of course, Haggis McStitch, who by the way, is getting along much better with other dogs (maybe because he is almost 13), makes for great conversation. People either say, “Toto!” or, “He’s so cute!” (We’re actually thinking of adding another pet to our family, Friends. I can’t wait to share more about that …)
But for now … what makes people friendly?
We used our jet boil in the warming hut, and made hot chocolate.
Start conversations with new people, and chat back with people who try to talk to you! If you’re on a trail, ask them questions about where they are from, or their equipment, or their pet.
And isn’t it a great way to get to know people, to show love, to look into their eyes and show that we care?
Have you thought about putting a little extra “crunch” in your waffles?
And adding tonic water gives your waffles a lite and fluffy taste and look.
We also love using Bob’s Red Mill whole grain flour (made right here in Oregon).
So … we enjoyed these over the weekend with our kids!
My husband and I were talking about how 2017 is going to be a year of new friendships. We know it, and we are excited!
