How do you make a buttermilk cake with bacon glaze?

  • Mix the softened butter, sugar, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture—flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Mix well and pour batter into prepared baking pan and bake.
  • Remove from oven and let the cake cool on wire rack.
  • Lay 8 slices of bacon on a broiling pan. Sprinkle lightly with brown sugar and cinnamon. Broil, depending on the thickness of bacon. Do not burn, but make sure it is crispy. Cool and set aside. Cut into small pieces.

Make the glaze:

  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter and syrup together over medium heat. Add the maple extract. Whisk the powdered sugar into the hot mixture until smooth.
  • Poke holes in the cake with a fork and immediately pour the glaze over the cooled cake.
  • Spread evenly and sprinkle with bacon.
