Real Life Today with Cantaloupe Ice Cream Dessert
Today I’m sharing a Cantaloupe Ice Cream Dessert – delicious made with any fruity Tillamook ice cream flavor!
We’re in lovely Kauai this week with our dear friends from Medford, enjoying the beauty of the beaches and hiking and the gorgeous sunshine. Our baby girl is heading to Seattle today, which is hard for us, being here, and her there, but since we had this trip booked a year ago, this is where “it takes a village” benefits us in life. Our eldest drove Abby to Portland, and our amazing friends there are taking her up to school. We were a little concerned about fitting all her belongings in the car, but they did it! :)
Life is an ongoing journey of juggling, and working out the details. Our family has begun shifting, once again, toward a new shape, a new season, a new chapter in life.
We feel very blessed for the way this trip came to be, when our friends invited us to stay with them. Being over in Kauai has reminded me of not getting so caught up in each day’s worries of what might be, but instead embracing the beauty of the day.
The week before our family went our separate ways, we captured some memories down at the river. Every year, I’m in awe of the directions our kids are going, and the love in my heart for our kids sinks in a little deeper.
Our extended summer idyll is over now, and at the tail end of our vacation, I have to admit there is a bit of anxiety in returning to the mainland. As our friends head back home, my husband and I will linger a few more days.
Real life today.
We’re approaching our 25th year anniversary, and the last thing we want is our time together to be about midlife restlessness. We’ve talked about the years to come, years beyond high school and college with our kids, when our family comes together. We don’t know exactly what it will look like. Our oldest is heading toward a career in medicine, our middle son finishing up college and heading to Asia, and our youngest is headed to Seattle for college.
We want to pause, and enjoy, and realize that life is short, each day is a gift, and is very, very precious.
But back to vacation. Real life today is about enjoying this beautiful island we are on, our dear friends, coming together for dinner, passing the food, sharing stories, sitting out at sunset and enjoying the beauty, the waves and sand in our toes, the spectacular sunset.
Before long, we’ll be back to the daily coming and goings.
Life will be just as sweet there as it is here, just different.
Cantaloupe Ice Cream Dessert.
We’ve cooked a few meals together at our condo here on Kauai, one night with fresh tuna, and for dessert I made an easy childhood dessert my grandma used to serve me.
Take a fresh cantaloupe (is there any melon better than fresh tropical fruit?) and your favorite ice cream.
Coming from Oregon, of course I bought at the store our favorite brand, Tillamook Marionberry Pie.
Slice, scoop, and serve.

Cantaloupe Ice Cream Dessert

Delicious made with Tillamook Marionberry Pie ice cream.
- 1 cantaloupe, cut into 6 sections
- Favorite ice cream flavor (we love Tillamook Marionberry Pie)
- Cut the melon open and remove the seeds. Cut into 6 slices.
- Scoop ice cream on top; serve!
