Day 24. Getting Yourself Ready: Don’t Look Frumpy!
Through the years, I’ve learned that if I don’t take 5 to 10 minutes to get myself ready, before my guests arrive, I am flustered and just don’t feel my best. It is really important, not only for myself, but so that I can be the best I can be for my guests. And that also includes the state of my heart and my attitude.
Ladies, it’s okay to take 5 minutes to put on lipstick and freshen up!
I don’t know about you, but I just don’t want to be a frumpy hostess when I open my front door.
What do you do to get yourself ready before your guests arrive?
(This picture was from a summer dinner party this year and my dress only cost $12. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look nice for your guests!)

blame it on being raised by a southern momma, but I keep a little mirror in the kitchen and lipstick in the cabinet by the sink … : )
Lipstick is the quickest way I know to perk up and look ready!
I cant imagine that you could ever look frumpy!
I do the exact same thing….if nothing else I have fresh lipstick and lip gloss and make sure my hair is not a mess… I have completely enjoyed your series. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for being so transparent…it has been a blessing!
I have been reading all these posts in my blog reader but haven’t taken the time to comment on all of them. This has been so informative and helpful, Sandy! I love that dress too!
Can’t wait to see the actual party post :)
I sometimes love when I am the hostess as I feel I can be more casual, more frumpy, but then I never feel good about the night. I agree that we need to primp a little and make ourselves look good to feel good.
I like to set a timer for 30 min before the guests arrive. When that timer goes off, I drop whatever I’m doing and take a look in the mirror. The timer has saved me from embarrassment more than once.
I usually change my clothes because I’ve been cooking and cleaning and am sweaty and wearing sweats! Sometimes makeup – depending on the event and guests. I agree with Kristin that wearing something that makes you feel good will make you look good! Also, I’m all about not spending much – most of my clothing is thrifted and no one knows – unless I tell them.
That’s probably an area that I don’t take time for. A lot of times our company is after church and so we are already “done up”, but for other times, I try to look good (I’m not in sweats and holy tee), but I’m not a “dressed up” kinda girl. Give me jeans and a tee and i feel great.
Oh, I so agree with this. I have had a few get togethers…my youngest daughter’s graduation party for example…oh my, the pictures of me in it…are awful. I let my hair air dry while I was getting things together and then wound up not doing it…so I looked so frazzled in her pictures. A party we will never ever re-do…so YES, take a few minutes to get yourself ready! Thanks for the post.
