Angel Cake Strawberry Shortcake is a fun twist to the traditional Strawberry Shortcake. You fry the base (angel food cake bar), and it’s topped with sweetened strawberries and a chocolate ganache.

The dessert is a rich, chocolaty fruity dessert, which pairs well for Spring and Summer.

Buy store-bought angel food cake. You can buy fudge sauce (I use Trader Joe’s), or you can make your own ganache. The day before, slice the strawberries. EASY!

  • A pre-made Angel Food Cake Bar (or make your own)
  • Fudge or fondue sauce, or make your own ganache (below)
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon and sugar: mixed together
  • Fresh mint

Fried Angel Food Ganache Strawberry Shortcake

How do you fry angel cake?

In a frying pan, melt butter over low heat. Slice the cake into 8 slices and place in the pan to fry. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture; brown each side. Add more butter if needed.

How do you make Fried Angel Food Ganache Strawberry Shortcake?

  1. After the angel cake is fried, making sure it’s hot, place a slice on a plate.
  2. Drizzle with ganache, and place strawberries on top!
  3. Garnish with a mint leaf.

Make your own homemade ganache: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and cream. Microwave on 50% power for 30 seconds; stir. Continue to cook in the microwave for 30 second intervals, half power, until the ganache is smooth and warm.

Tips and substitutions:

Swap out the strawberries for fresh raspberries – delicous!

Have your butter ready in the pan. Slice the angle food (or cut into large chunks). Fry for a few minutes on low heat on each side. Oh, and don’t forget the cinnamon and sugar sprinkles!

When it’s time for dessert, place a warm, buttery piece of fried angel food cake on the plate. Top with ganache (or warm fudge sauce), and spinkle with strawberry slices!

  • 1 10 oz jar fudge or fondue sauce, or make your own ganache (below)
  • 1 quart strawberries, cleaned and sliced
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon, mixed together the cinnamon + sugar
  • 2 tsp. sugar

Make your own ganache:

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • fresh mint, for garnishing

Instructions
