One of the best things I did over Thanksgiving weekend was meal plan. Besides the big feast on Thursday, I planned a few other meals as well. Breakfast is the first meal of the day where everyone is fresh, excited for the day, and hungry!

This time my husband and I made a giant recipe that feeds a crowd, with organic flour (for gluten-free guests), buttermilk, orange zest, and dried orange cranberries. One of our favorite waffle flavors! You can also use spelt flour, which is a little bit different. (Spelt is unusual because it can be more easily digested than other forms of wheat, and some people with wheat intolerances may be able to tolerate spelt; however, spelt is not gluten free.)

Let me tell you more about our KitchenAid® Waffle Baker, because you just may want to put this on your Christmas list! It’s one of my favorite small appliances in my kitchen!

Perfect Belgian Waffles.

It has all the bells and whistles, to make the most golden, perfect Belgian waffles, 2 at the same time!

It has a countdown timer and a dial that keeps track of cooking, and it lights up and sounds off when your waffles are cooked, so it’s unlikely you’ll burn your breakfast. Which is important when hosting over the holidays, right?

It also shuts off automatically after three minutes, in case you forget to turn it off.

Oh, and this baby weights 25 pounds, so it’s not light. But, it’s easy to pull out of the cupboard (I store ours in my garage pantry), and use.

There’s a preheat indicator dial, so it tells you when it’s ready for the waffles to be baked.

The dial thermometer allows you to adjust your baking time from between 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Once you select your perfect bake time, open the waffle baker. We bake our waffles for 5 minutes, but remember, there are 2 baking at the same time.

Pour the batter onto the nonstick metal plates, close the lid, then flip it over (by the way, the handle remains cool in the process). Pour more batter in the other side, close and flip back over, so the indicator dial is facing up.

Wait until the timer counts down and beeps (5 minutes for our recipe).
