Meet Sandy

Sandy 2009

Welcome to my Reluctant Entertainer site!
Pull up a chair and sit back and enjoy some daily inspiration, casual elegant entertaining ideas, and ways of reaching out as I share with you my life, my family, gardening, bargains, recipes, and homemaking ideas.

How Reluctant Entertainer came to be
My husband and I came up with this title years ago, well before I had a blog, when we were puzzled about why people are so reluctant to entertain and invite people into their homes! It then took some courage, on my part, to start this blog and to start sharing my life and entertaining stories with you. I started doing this back in 2006.

Who this blog is for
You can tell by reading the last 3 years of posts that I am not a reluctant entertainer! This blog is written for anybody – reluctant or not!

I’ve always said it this way: I’m not a big event planner, and I’ve never wanted to be one! My love of entertaining is simply in opening up my home, and helping encourage people to feel comfortable in their own skin, their own kitchen, their own home – imperfections and all – and in learning what it feels like to be free to invite and be real with people.

I call it real entertaining for real people.

A bit about my family
I live in a normal home (noisy, cluttery, dusty, dishes in the sink, and incredibly active) with the best husband in the world, Paul, who’s also a stellar, witty, fun and brilliant father to our 3 teenagers. Yes, 3 teenagers and 3 animals – 2 kitties (Filly & Hobbes) and 1 Cairn Terrier (Haggis McStitch), who has a personality with a Capital P!

I will say this about our home: Although imperfect, it is filled with love, laughter, music, friends, and there’s rarely a dull moment!

A bit about courage
As I said, it took courage on my part to start this blog. We’ve all learned many important lessons on the importance of courage, inspired by my husband Paul and his ministry in all facets of a person’s life. Starting a blog was a small way for me to exercise some, as I was not initially comfortable taking on such an endeavor!

A bit about my photos
I am not a photographer, so the majority of the photography on this blog is taken from my point-and-shoot camera (Canon A590). Occasionally I will use one of my husband’s pictures, which are the real deal (he knows what he’s doing!) All of my pictures and stories are real life. My philosophy is to write about true life happenings and to capture the moment as it happens.
