Friends, this is our favorite time of year to host a party. Between holidays and now, this is a less-busy time of year, and a great time to open our homes! One way to bring friends together is to host a simple Decadent Chocolate Party, with your favorite sweets and a fresh pot of French press coffee.

Serve French press

There never seems to be enough time to catch up with your best friends, but this party idea today is the perfect way to gather, with a modern twist on the traditional high tea. We’re in love with French press coffee, and setting out a variety of Coffee-mate creamers that makes everyone happy!

I grew up with these cookies, when my mom made logs of cookie dough and placed it in the fridge—easy to slice off pieces and bake into the most scrumptious cookies. I added a simple touch of dipping the cookies in chocolate frosting and sprinkling with sliced almonds.

Set up and serve

Set out your favorite mugs, or pick up some festive, eco-friendly, disposable cups with sleeves. We are a Storyville Coffee-loving family and we enjoy espresso and French press. For this party we made pots of French press, serving it with Coffee-mate’s new Chocolate Boutique flavors: Salted Caramel Chocolate, Chocolate Toffee Truffle and Café Mocha.

Guess which flavor was the most popular? You’ve got it – the Salted Caramel Chocolate. There’s just something about salted caramel with chocolate and coffee that is so delightfully delicious!

Create ambience

Now that you have the menu and coffee sorted, you need atmosphere. We happened to have a warm day in Oregon this past Saturday, so we set a party table in the back yard. Pile chocolate desserts on a three-tiered plate, have a fun tassel banner flowing in the wind (Prospect Goods), or if you’re setting up the party inside, little tea lights around the room make a beautiful glow. I used paper napkins, small white paper plates lined with gold from Target, and a fresh fern plant in a gold polkadot gift box (also from Target), to add a touch of class.

Savor the flavors

Planning a party for family or friends, and making the people you love enjoy it with you, is the best kind of party!

It’s a modern way to host a fun gathering, without stressing over elaborate food and preparations.

And who doesn’t love a steaming cup of coffee (with your favorite Coffee-mate flavor) and a luscious bite of chocolate dessert?

We’ve found that if you set it out, they will come!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
  • Sprinkles or sliced almonds, for decorating

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix the shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, soda, salt, vanilla, and eggs. Add in the flour and oats; stir. Stir in the nuts.
  • Divide the dough into two rounds. Make each round into a log (roll), and wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap, and place in the fridge.
  • When ready to bake, slice the dough 1/4-inch thick and place on an un-greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake the cookies for 10 minutes at 350 degrees, or until crisp and firm. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for two minutes, then transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
  • When the cookies are cool, dip into the melted chocolate. I only dipped about 1/4 of the cookie. Sprinkle the chocolate section with sprinkles or sliced almonds, if desired. Place the cookies on wax paper until the chocolate is completely set up; serve!
