Today I want to introduce you to our new Whoodle pup, Alder! (Alder, meaning Irish tree.)

Welcome to the Coughlin Family, Alder!

Everyone is asking what a Whoodle pup is, and if you follow me on Instagram (and watch my stories), you’ll see more about this adorable puppy (@SandyCoughlinRE) and watch him grow up!

A Whoodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.

They are gentle, loving, SMART, beautiful dogs, and we are so in love!

I thought I’d share my story of how I learned about this amazing breed. We decided to get a Whoodle puppy over a year ago, when my dental hygienist showed me a picture of her “Ziggy.”

From there, our family went to meet Ziggy, and fell in love with the breed.

Come to find out, they are bred right here in our small town (if you want more information, please email me). What a small world, to find a breed you feel is so right for your family, only 10 miles away. (Picking out our pup below, Alder was our little guy and pick of the litter!)

Whoodles in different sizes

Whoodles come in different sizes—mini, medium, and standard.

The Standard Whoodle can weigh up to 65 pounds.
The Medium Whoodle, typically weighing between 35-45 lbs., is a medium size dog.
The Mini Whoodle weighs between 18-20 lbs when grown.

Here’s the beauty of a Whoodle, besides being extremely intelligent, and quick to learn: Whoodles are non-shedding and hypoallergenic! They also have very low dander, which makes them an excellent choice for those suffering from allergies or asthma.

Whoodles get along great with younger kids and other dogs and cats. It’s pretty cute how Alder is trying to be chummy with Haggis, who isn’t at all interested at the moment (which is normal for a Cairn Terrier, because they can be rather aloof).

Here’s Haggis doing a little local shopping with us. :)

Whoodle’s have a very easy-going nature, so personable, they stare you down, deep into your soul, especially when they want something.

Alder the Entertainer Whoodle Puppy will make a wonderful family dog, because he loves to snuggle, and did I mention how adorable he is?

CUTENESS to the 100th degree. We’re remodeling and our guest bathroom and look who crawled into the old sink?

Alder has already tried out our Reverie bed, but only for a few minutes (HA).

Actually, he sleeps in a crate next to my bed. From the day we brought him home, at 8 weeks, he has slept through the night.

He wakes up FEISTY and ready to go! No pee or poop in the crate. Amazing.

We are still potty training, of course, and until he gets his shots, he cannot go out of the house (or at least outside of our arms). Or, at least he can’t be around other dogs or animals.

Some say the best part about their Whoodle is that they are not excessive barkers!

And they love to explore!

It’s been 13 years since we’ve had a puppy. Haggis was a tyrant. If you know anything about Cairn Terriers, they are wild and crazy (and aloof). Some of our friends have said that Haggis is stuck-up, but we know he loves us. He just doesn’t show it very well. Cairns can live up to 18-20 years, but we wanted to get a puppy now, so Haggis would adjust.

Haggis will always be TOP DOG.

But, Alder is #2 TOP DOG, at least for now.

I’d love to hear if you’ve heard of the “Whoodle” breed, and what you think of Alder?
