I just finished baking, cooling and wrapping the layers. My son requested root beer cake for his 5th birthday! My husband and I ate the scraps I cut to level the tops and it was so delicious! I baked three 6″ cakes and I plan to stack them. Will the root beer frosting be stable enough between layers or should I make a dam around the outside of buttercream and fill the inside with the root beer frosting? Thank you!

because cake mixes are only 13.25 oz now – I bought another cake mix and took 1/2 cup plus another 1/8 cup to add to the mix to make up for the missing 5 oz.

My son requested a root beer cake for his birthday- this looks good, but I cannot find 18.25 oz. white cake mix anywhere. This is not a universal measurement. I wonder what brand you used?

So, in order to follow this recipe, I’ll buy two packs and measure on my digital scale. I can figure it out but it’s an extra step and wasteful for the left over cake mix.

In general- this is why it’s a good idea to use more universal measurements so that recipes don’t get stuck in time attached to packaging weights that no longer exists.
