I was at a retreat in Tahoe a few weekends ago, and telling a new friend how I started my blog 9 years ago. My husband and I were in Denver at a book convention, talking about sharing one of my passions with people: hospitality. We hashed out why people entertain, and why some don’t, and came up with the name of this blog: Reluctant Entertainer. Before that, I was sharing my heart with my friend Barb, about how I wished people would just figure out the blessings of hospitality and not get so wrapped up in the details. Barb said, Sandy, start a blog!

So that is the story. When you know in your heart that you are supposed to do something, and it’s something that you believe in, you trust it.

I googled “blog” and started clicking away, and started this blog in October 2006. Way … back … when …

Since then, I’ve thought a lot about my passions for helping others, while at the same time, having entertaining and hospitality as very important pieces of my life.

Follow your passion.

When you believe something, you trust it. You rely on and depend on it. My mom taught me a lot about hospitality, and her example was a lesson of life for me, for the way I wanted to live. I just knew it in my heart, so to not follow my passion, I knew I would be wrong.

When you choose to let your doubts rule you, and you start believing you cannot do something, you are trusting, relying and depending on those doubts!

When I shared with my husband early on in our marriage how much entertaining meant to me, he got on board and helped me, and realized that it truly is a gift in life, a gift that we should pass down to our children.

When you don’t follow your dreams, or live out your passions, I truly believe that your doubts move you farther away from what you should be doing. They create distance between you and the life you were meant to live.

I hope this post makes sense, and you get the idea here …. Live your dream … make it happen!

For me, it was to start a blog and share hospitality. That simple.

Following this passion speaks to my heart, it moves my soul, it makes me want to help others.

Basic Green Salad.

So, today, I’m sharing a basic green salad recipe with you, because how many dinner parties do you serve a green salad? For me, almost every single one!

There are so many varieties and ways to make a salad, but when we hosted this party, a month or so ago, I realized how much I LOVE a basic green salad.

Keep stocked in the pantry.

I also keep on hand Briannas Home Style Dijon Honey Mustard Dressing.

It’s my all-time favorite PANTRY dressing, you know, when you don’t have time to whip up a fresh salad dressing. It pairs well with so many flavors. Even Mexican food!

It’s my go-to, and everyone always asks … Sandy, what is this dressing? And I’m always happy to tell them my little secret. :)

The easiest way to toast walnuts is to lay them on a paper towel and cook in the microwave for 1 minute. Toss; cook for another 30 seconds to a minute, until toasty-delicious! I also love to keep Briannas Home Style Dressing Dijon Honey Mustard stocked in the pantry for last-minute entertaining!
