Black & White: Kitchen Pizazz!
After my kitchen was finished a year ago, I had this long, empty, bare wall – just waiting for the right “look.”
I knew at the beginning that I wanted to take photographs – some of our family and friends and some that I used in my book – and frame them on the wall. (Frameless pix in this area next to my pantry.)
I already had black frames, and added in white.
I’m sure there will come a day that I take these photos down or replace with newer ones, but for now, I do love seeing the strawberries that we harvest every year.
The simple picture of a fork and a paper napkin, symbolizing that it’s okay to use paper napkins!
Fresh green beans and sweet potatoes (recipes also found in my NEW book).
It’s a good feeling when I walk down this hallway. And yes, sometimes I have to straighten the pictures if they get bumped.
But for now it’s adds a bit of pizazz that feels just right, in the room where people congregate the most in our house.
Do you have room on your kitchen walls for family photographs, or what’s your favorite art in the kitchen?
(Do you recognize any of these beautiful pictures from The Reluctant Entertainer?):)

I love your wall of photos. I am the worst at getting photos up…but have no idea why, because I thoroughly enjoy all kinds of photography. As for art in my kitchen…it is all cabinets…I am working on some things for the few cabinet-less areas right now.
OMG!!! I ahve a wall just like this and have decorative pictures on it right now. I LOVE THIS IDEA OF FAMILY PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!! Also I LOOOVE your kitchen!
Sandy what a great idea. The pictures are so unique! And from your book too, that really makes some great memories and great conversation starters!
How beautiful! I like that the photos aren’t just of the people that you love, but also the things that are dear to you. Great idea!
Our kitchen is part of the great room, so I only have three pictures in the actual kitchen, but a wall of pictures that can be seen from where I cook AND all the pictures on the fridge…of friends and family…which we all love!
Love the sweet potato pic… that has been a fave since childhood and can’t wait to try your recipe.
I don’t have a photo wall, but I admire yours! I have discovered that a tiny bit of sticky tac (poster putty)behind the corner of a hanging frame keeps it from bumping out of level on your wall!
Thanks for the colorful photo inspiration! It made me hungry, though. :)
Beautiful!! I have a photo wall not as pretty but what I love about it is that when the mood strikes, I can just print new photos and bam it’s all fresh and new and interesting.
I love that you incorporated food pics. So real and you. Love it!!
I’ve always loved pictures of pictures.
I’ve gotten lazy with photos. Only ever use the iPhone camera, because it’s handy. Need to break out the Canon every now and then, even if the idea of hooking a cable up to an apparatus seems so 20th century.
Cheers!
I love all of your pictures! Can you come help me decorate soon? We should be done next week with the kitchen. I Hope:) Then the decorating begins, but I am the worst!!
Sandy,
What size are your photos? I love this idea!!
Lynn
Love it Sandy! Gave me some ideas to go through some of my pics and even choose ones I wouldn’t think of to enlarge and frame. I still don’t have pictures on the walls of my current kitchen, but hope to get some and also some for my hallway. I laughed at your comment about straightening pictures. My hubby would probably rather NOT hang things then have to straighten them all the time. I’m more like you!

What a great idea and I love the mix of black and white frames. I have no wall in my kitchen for photos.

Enjoying your book and my daughter too!
What a great photo wall!! I chose to do one large photo rather than a collage of photos in my kitchen area. I had a wrapped photo canvas made out of a close-up of my daughter’s small bejeweled wrists holding a bowl of cherry tomatoes from our garden. It just makes me smile. You will never see this canvas on any garage sale of mine!
Love it! The photo collage is beautiful. Wish I had some wall room to do this also. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh Sandy! I am so in love with your photo gallery! What a fantastic idea…hanging images of everyday living in the kitchen!
Homes all over the country are now going to steal your idea! ME, for one :)
Thanks for the inspiration Sandy!
Love it! I wish I had that kind of wall space. Maybe in my next kitchen. Thanks for sharing!
We’re trying to pick out some photos from our archives for our new house, it takes a while when you move somewhere new to work out what you want. Sometimes you have to live with that empty space until you work out exactly what you want there!
Sandy, it’s wonderful and so you! I usually don’t have a lot of wall space in the kitchen for art. I try to decorate with some other simple things to bring a little personality in- I’m one who doesn’t like my counter tops cluttered, though, so not too much!
I love your collage of pictures. I would have never thought to take my pictures of food and hang them on the wall. Very cool! Now if I only had an empty wall……..
You BET I’ve got photographs in my kitchen!!! Ha!! Mine are not the walls…but I’m blessed with a lot of counter space and I’ve got a TON of them framed all over my counters. My favorite art work on the walls happens to be something I painted myself. I love abstract art and couldn’t find just the right piece for the space I needed….so I painted it myself!!!! Ha! I’m no artist…but I love the way it turned out and it means a lot to me. I actually blogged about it awhile back…I’ve done the same thing now for other rooms!

Your kitchen is probably one of the warmest that I’ve ever been in so I can only imagine that it’s even better with your lovely wall of photos. I love seeing your book cover framed. I’m so proud of you Sandy.
I love your photo montage – very classy. By the way, I have a serious case of kitchen envy!
