Mint Hummus: With a Bite to it!
When my niece Lisa took a bunch of mint from our garden to plant in hers, I was inspired to try something new.
I’m cooking with Bush’s Beans more these days, and coming up with healthier snacks. And I experimented and came up with a zesty new hummus!
Bush’s Beans Mint Hummus
1 can Bush’s Garbanzo Beans
3/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
3-5 garlic cloves
1/4 chopped red onion
3 caps full of Rice Vinegar
Few sprinkles of Stevia
Salt
White Pepper
Snip fresh mint from the garden.
Drain the beans.
Add the pressed garlic and other ingredients.
Including chopped mint.
Blend in Cuisinart.
Pour into a serving dish. Serve with crackers or fresh veggies.
I love the “bite” that this dip has!
Do you make your own hummus, or do you prefer to buy it? And do you cook with Garbanzo Beans?
(I’m excited that I’ve entered into a paid, formal partnership with Bush’s Beans and the post above represents part of that agreement.)
Make humus all the time and I use the Bushs Bean Strainer I won here. It is terrific, thanks again. Garbonzo’s are so useful for so many things. I’ve been making a Spanish dish with them as well. Did you post that recipe? I have forgotten where it came from.

yummy looking
Sandy you are so smart! Emma is in LOVE with hummus (which is strange if you know how picky of an eater she is). I was thinking that I needed to learn how to make it myself so that I could control the ingredients and then you went and planned it all out for me! Thank you! :o)
I love garbonzo beans! I like to keep the small cans on hand to add to my salads. Hummus is one of our favorite summer hor dourves for backyard parties!
The mint is a great suggestion!

Oh wow! This looks so good!
I am a fan of making everything myself – including hummus. We’ve never tried it with fresh mint before, but I’m sure that is a great combo! I am definitely coming back to this and making it for our family. So I’ll let ya know how we like it~!

Garbanzo beans are a favorite around here. I actually only recently discovered that I loved humus. It’s natural that I would.
Never made my own. It looks easy, and your recipe sounds like one that I will try.

I have made hummus but it wasn’t as good as the Sabra brand I buy. The latest flavor I have tried is the spinach artichoke.

Yum! I’ll have to try this. I make a sandwich spread with garbanzo beans that I love.

I so LOVE hummus! Let me just tell you, a blender does not work to make hummus. :( So, because that’s all I have, I don’t make it. My favorite kind is Spicy Chipotle by Tribe. Yum!!!!
That looks delicious! I really need to go pick some mint now. :)

I’m also curious what kind of mint you use. I think mine is spearmint and I haven’t used it for cooking, but would like to. My husband and I both like hummus so we just might have to try this one! The mint marinade above sounds yummy, too…
i LOVE your blog! so glad you found me on twitter, and i’m now addicted :)
i really enjoy making my own hummus, but i have to use canned chickpeas…cooking them takes a lot longer than i’m willing to spend!
I make my own hummus, and always prefer it to purchased. Mine tends to be more “garlicky” than most. Mint sounds like a nice addition. I do add tehini to mine; the sesame really adds to the flavor.
I also love mint chicken cooked on the grill. I make a marinade of mint leaves, olive oil, salt, pepper, and fresh garlic, throw it in a zip-loc bag with pieces of chicken and let it marinate overnight prior to grilling. We grill the chicken with the mint leaves still atop the chicken. It’s delicious.
A yummy way to use mint. Clarice

Oh how I love hummus! I think I will make this–but I don’t have mint. Maybe I can sub basil.

I didn’t even know they made garbanzo beans. Looks delicious! As an avid humus maker, I can’t wait to try!

I make my own. I start with dried garbanzo beans and sprout them. It really helps with their digestion.

I have made my own hummus, but also have bought it. What type of mint do you use? There are so many types out there! I bet lemon mint would be good in this.

LOVE hummus and I prefer to make it vs. buying it. I primarily use garbanzo beans but occasionally use white northern beans if that is what’s in the cupboard.
Have never used mint but this recipe comes at a great time because I am growing some mint and am collecting “mint recipes” so this is getting added to the list to try!
I make my own hummus since it is easy and cheaper. Are the Bush bean strainers readily available and do you know where?
You and your mint :) I love it!
What a great addition to your Humus.

Ha! I’ll have to check out your rosemary bread! Since we’re talking herbs here … :)
