Planning an October Picnic in the Park

Happy October 1st, Friends! I love this time of year! And planning a picnic in a park can be a very special thing to do. Grab your friends, some delicious food, drinks, blankets, chairs, and be ready to have a good time!
Seriously, just sitting and talking and enjoying the golden leaves, and being with friends you love, is a wonderful gift in life.
With October dawning cool and clear, now is prime picnic season. I think the location is the key factor to planning a picnic, and then, of course, the season with the brilliant foliage, crunchy leaves, and vibrant colors. Places like Lithia Park in Ashland, which is about 15 minutes from where I live in southern Oregon, is absolutely stunning this time of year.
A great day of the week for a fall picnic is a lazy Sunday afternoon, a perfect time to lay out the blanket and spread the food and enjoy!
I love the ease of just “laying out” the appetizers, and there’s always room for a cooler, no matter what the size!
My friends and I gathered and we each brought a salad and wine to enjoy! Mm-m-m, lots of pears, apples, cheeses …
Keep a bag of paper plates, cups, napkins, etc. ready at all times. Just add the drinks! Pack and GO!
I’ve learned to let go of the idea that a picnic needs to be perfect!
What’s more important to me are the people who are with me, enjoying nature, good food, and each other. A picnic is really all about LOVE!
Four factors that make up a great picnic:
People – Spending time with old friends, new friends, or maybe a date with one special person you love.
Food – Salads, wraps, sandwiches, and specialty appetizers are tasty and easy.
Wine – Bring your favorite wine that goes with what you are eating.
Location – Choose a beautiful place where you can’t help but be in awe of nature around you.
Whether you just need an excuse to enjoy the great outdoors, or you’re just wanting to get together with family or friends, planning a picnic takes the pressure off of trying to be the hostess, because nature is the most accommodating hostess of all!
This kind of enjoyment always starts with an invite.
I never want to forget to enjoy the “beauty of today,” which is always best shared with great friends.
Do you have any picnic plans this season, and where is your favorite place to go?
