DIY Lowe’s Home Improvement: Outdoor Ceiling Fans
We change the airflow of our back patio with the help of Lowe’s Home Improvement, and 2 new outdoor ceilings fans!
My husband and I recently finished a fall project that we’ve been wanting to do for almost 10 years! Because Lowe’s Home Improvement sponsored a shopping trip to our local store to pick out 2 ceiling fans for our back patio, we were able to install 2 gorgeous outdoor ceiling fans in an area that gets a LOT of afternoon sun and that needed better lighting as well!
Shopping in Medford.
Our shopping experience was an A+ with Janet, who gave us the best assistance in choosing our products.
Lowe’s has excellent customer service, and Janet helped us shop, including a DeWalt 12-volt cordless drill, which was small but powerful enough to get the job done, and comes with a very handy belt clip—ideal for over-your-head projects. She did a great job of getting us all of the mounting material we needed as well. We were so impressed!
Outdoor ceiling fans.
We ended up going with the Harbor Breeze Merrimack 52-inch outdoor fan. Now my husband knows this language better than I do, but it was mounted with a self-leveling down rod to the ceiling (perfect, since our ceiling is sloped), and included a light kit and a remote control.
Remote control? Yes – perfect for entertaining, I’d say! You get to control both the fan setting and the lights, with a dimming feature for later in the evening when we want a more intimate setting.
Old and new.
Our original dual lights, that have hung on this back patio for 36 years, were still in excellent condition (in fact, I’m trying to think of ways I can reuse the bulbs and do something fun!), but for the hot months in southern Oregon, we’ve longed for 2 ceiling fans.
Having a breeze under our patio is going to make all the difference in our entertaining now, since we are fortunate to have “Indian” summers and still need to move the air around late into October. We cannot wait until next summer where we can enjoy our back patio in a way we couldn’t before.
All the details.

We’re enjoying the fall days with lots of sunshine and heat penetrating our backyard and patio area.
We eat, work, hang out, visit with friends, enjoy appetizers, do homework, all on our back patio.
So it’s a whole new world for us now, thanks to circulating air and the ability to really crank up the lighting when we’re reading, or bringing it down and enjoy the amber hue when just hanging out.
How late in the year can you entertain outdoors where you live?

Helpful information. Now I require some time to digest it.
Being near Houston we can entertain just about year round. We are entering our perfect time–today is beautiful!
Not that late…it’s usually hit and miss though this year the weather has been nicer for just awhile longer.
Looks awesome!!
Sandy,
You will absolutely love your outdoor fans. We have one in in a gazebo on the corner of our deck and it’s fantastic. On hot humid days that you can’t stand being outside, you can’t beat having the fan. I’m a big fan of Lowe’s too.
