This is a simple and delicious treat that can be made in a pinch. We recommend a heavy bottom skillet that has high walls for safety (no grease fires please)! You’ll also need a thermometer attached to the side to monitor the temperature of the oil.
Ingredients
8-105-inchflour tortillas, quartered
¾cwhite sugar
1tspcinnamon
¼tspallspice
2pinchesfresh nutmeg
¼tspkosher salt
15ozsunflower or canola oil, or enough to fill the bottoms of a small Dutch oven 1”
Instructions
In a shallow bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Set aside.
Prepare a sheet pan with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
In a small Dutch oven or a similar vessel with high walls, heat 1 inch of oil to 375° F.
Fry 4-6 tortilla pieces at a time for about 30 seconds each side. Using a slotted spoon to flip the tortillas and place onto the paper towels.
While the tortillas are still hot, transfer to the bowl of sugar and toss to coat. Transfer to a wire rack until ready to serve with Nutella or another sweet condiment.
