In medium bowl, mix sugar and egg yolks. Add in in flour, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, and yogurt, mixing until smooth.
In separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Fold egg whites into the sugar, egg, and flour batter. In order to preserve the fluffiness, don’t over-mix.
Slice figs lengthwise into 3-4 slices.
Grease a medium-sized baking dish with butter. Pour in batter and spread evenly. Layer figs lightly on top in rows.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the top is browned. The cake will rise with the heat and deflate as it cools. When done, remove from oven and allow to cool before dusting with powdered sugar.
