Place the potatoes in the microwave 3-5 minutes until barely tender. Season the potatoes.
Melt the butter in a large frying pan on high; add the potatoes and cook until brown, then drop the heat down to low. (Or, at this point, when prepared, toss on the barbecue in a basket).
Cook until the potatoes are soft. Add rosemary and thyme. Season to taste.
Optional to add onions and mushrooms.
