Strawberries with Greek Yogurt and Coconut Sugar Dessert
There a time and a place for big fancy desserts at a well-planned dinner party, and then there’s the time and the place for easy, peasy desserts at last minute get-togethers!
There’s something about looking around and seeing people happy, relaxed, in the groove – talking about life and catching up! It makes me so happy!
I love the feeling of seeing my house or backyard (summer entertaining is coming!) filled with people you love, or that you desire to love, because you’re just getting to know them.
New guests and old guests, hostessing is about feeding people and putting smiles on their faces and yummy food in their tummies.
For me, that is so satisfying.
Dinner parties–planned or last minute–make my heart very full.
We just had a few friends over, just like I explained above, and because it was last minute, I was thinking as quickly as I could about what to serve for dessert. And a healthy dessert! All of us had been watching our diets and sugar intake, and wanted to keep that going.
I grabbed my friend Kristin’s silver tray that she left at my house a few months ago (do you ever do that? use what you have in front of you?) and lined it with fresh strawberries.
We’re so happy it’s strawberry season. Soon, our own strawberries will be bursting over on the side of the house in our raised beds.
Then I filled 2 glass dishes with Greek yogurt and organic unrefined coconut sugar.
Everyone dipped and rolled their own berries, and placed them on their little dessert plates.
But another option is pre-dip and roll the berries and serve them ready to eat that way.
It was such a satisfying dessert. A few strawberries each were all that we really needed. You know how the sweet tooth sometimes wants more.
The sweetness of great friends outweighed the dessert, but everyone decided that it was a new light and healthy summertime option!
And great for company.

Ingredients
- 2 lbs. whole strawberries
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup Organic Unrefined Coconut Sugar
Instructions
- Wash and dry the berries leaving the stems on. Line a platter with berries.
- Fill 2 small dishes or ramekins with Greek yogurt and the Coconut Sugar; placing on the same platter.
- Roll the berries first in the yogurt, and then in the sugar.
- Serve!

I’m not sure that I can find coconut sugar here in Italy, though…I always use raw cane sugar.

Maybe Market of Choice carries it up here. No Whole Foods they tried to come to Lane County but got blocked out mostly by locally owned food companies.
I got it at Natural Grocers, Erika. They are just hitting the west coast now! Our town was the first!
I’ve eaten a similar treat, using brown sugar and sour cream. But I am really loving your version…I need to find some of that coconut sugar!

Haha…those were going to be my guesses,,,greek yogurt and coconut sugar. I have used coconut sugar in a recipe, but haven’t quite acquired a liking for it :)

Yum! I do this too but I use sour cream & brown sugar. Your method *is healthier though :) When I serve this people are always unsure about the combination of sour cream + brown sugar + strawberries. I tell them they have to try it before they say ‘no’. :)
We’ve always done that, Elle, and we called them Kelly Bellies, while growing up. :) This is a healthier version! :)
I’m intrigued & I too haven’t heard of coconut sugar. Does it actually taste like coconut or is it more like a brown sugar? I might be tempted to toast a little coconut to mix in with the sugar for a stronger flavor.

Erika, I got it at Nature’s Grocers. Do you have one of those stores locally? Or a Whole Foods would probably carry it.
I love strawberry season, there’s nothing kinder on the eyes then seeing (in our case) buckets full of strawberries ready to pick. I can’t wait for them to start producing!
I really like the idea of using fresh fruit as dessert; I feel like I usually set it out as an appetizer or side, but summer is the PERFECT time to use it in other ways! And I love the yogurt/coconut sugar idea – the textures couldn’t be more perfect!
I’ll be using this for a great dessert. Hopefully I can find the coconut sugar in Canadaland!
