Unexpected Guests: Pull out the Frozen Cookie Dough!

The doorbell rings. Friends are standing at the door for a quick visit and you’re standing there feeling “unprepared,” but you want to be hospitable.

An easy tip that I learned years ago is to keep rolled cookie dough balls in the freezer.

Actually, my mom would roll it in the shape of a log and would freeze the dough that way.

Next time you’re making cookies, double or triple the batch, so you can pull them out for unexpected guests.

Freezing Dough
1. Mix up dough.
2. Scoop balls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until firm, 15-20 minutes.
3. Transfer the frozen balls to a freezer-safe container (or Ziploc bag).
4. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Baking Frozen Dough
1. Place the frozen balls on a baking sheet.
2. Bake according to the instructions.
3. Because frozen, add 1-2 extra minutes to baking time.

How do you freeze cookie dough?

How do you feel about being prepared with last-minute treats for unexpected guests?

  1. Oh I love freezing cookie dough. I roll them into balls too. It makes it easier when it’s time to bake them. Usually around Christmas is when I do most of my big cookie baking so I always freeze a variety of the cookies I’m making at the time. It works out great.

I do the exact same thing when freezing the dough, though my family always manages to find it and eat it…so do I!

Sometimes if we have unexpected guests which isn’t often…we’re gone so much that people know not to just drop in, but I will often make up some popcorn if they’re going to be awhile.

Great tip, Sandy! Think I’ll whip up a batch this weekend so we can enjoy some and freeze some. I like the idea of rolling them into balls– easier to thaw/bake. :)
