Roasted Pear Grape Kuchen + 5 Holiday Tips with Honey Baked Ham
This Roasted Pear Grape Kuchen plus 5 Holiday Tips, is perfect to serv with Honey Baked Ham for a holiday brunch or dinner!
Gearing up for the holidays can be stressful, if you plan to host a sit-down party. To keep it more casual, I love buffet style meals, where everyone serves themselves. Recently I ordered a Honey Baked Ham online (HoneyBaked.com), and it only took a few minutes to place my order. In fact, I immediately called my sister and told her how easy it was, because she wanted to order one. The flavor is so delicious, savory and sweet, and the ease of serving it to guests, and then the clean-up, makes this my favorite holiday meat. That said, ham is the ultimate holiday meat and is really worth it. It’s festive, delicious, and it feeds a crowd! It also provided great leftovers to try in delicious recipes!
Serve ham buffet-style.
I grew up with holiday meals served buffet style. My mom would bake a Honey Baked Ham, way back when, and her sisters would bring the sides. Christmas cookies and candy were always piled high on beautiful platters, and the good food never ended.
Mom would pull hot rolls from the oven, which we loved and served with ham. Sometimes we’d have cheese and a variety of mustards to try, or just a big piece of ham on a hot roll was good enough.
There are so many ways to enjoy a beautiful, spiral Honey Baked Ham. You can serve a brunch with sides, or use for a sandwich bar, or even a sit-down dinner.
Brunch of dinner MENU.
This time we served a simple meal with whole wheat rolls, Honey Baked Ham with a special sauce, my delicious Mashed Sweet Potatoes, a fruit platter (or this Fresh Fruit Salad and Poppyseed Dressing recipe), and a Roasted Pear Grape Kuchen. 5 Holiday Tips with Honey Baked Ham.
I want to share with you how we served our Honey Baked Ham, which I felt was a beautiful presentation! We joined together around the table with our guests and had such a lovely meal!
5 Holiday Tips:
1. Set up the area. Set up a buffet area with plates, napkins, forks, and arrange the food in an attractive way.
2. Garnish the Honey Baked Ham. With parsley and citrus, arrange the ham on a platter and allow the pre-sliced pieces to fall over naturally. Serve a sauce on the side for those who like a little sweetness on their meat (marmalade and dried fruit),
3. Embrace the classics. Make a side of potatoes (mashed, scalloped, or sweet potatoes), a fruit salad (platter of fruit or cranberry salad), and warm rolls and butter. (You can also order premade sides and rolls for those who want to make their holiday feast really stress-free!) For me, these are the best comfort foods that go so well with a Honey Baked Ham. Don’t forget to garnish the fruit and sweet potatoes with pomegranate seeds.
4. Bake something special. Whether a family recipe or a new recipe, bake something special for dessert. Your guests will appreciate the time and love put into a homemade dessert. Especially with a dab of fresh whipped cream (flavored with cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla), on top!
5. Relax and enjoy. Spend time with those you love; no memories or meals will be more special than those created and shared together.
Roasted Pear Grape Kuchen.
Now for the delightful kuchen recipe! I took my mom’s classic recipe and changed it up a bit, roasting the pears and grapes first (on parchment paper).
It’s just not the holidays without kuchen, which is another family dessert that my mom always used applesauce, but her friend, Hilda, would make it with plums.
Made the dough, placed the roasted fruit on top.
And baked to perfection. We served it with whipped cream, and coffee!
Happy Holidays, Friends!

Roasted Pear Grape Kuchen
Ingredients
- 2 cups seedless red grapes
- 3 firm peeled pears, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 6 Tbsp. butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
- 4 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk, you can use evaporated
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. almond extract
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cinnamon
- Powdered sugar + milk, optional
Instructions
- Lay grapes and pear slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet; drizzle with olive oil. Bake at 450° for 20 to 25 minutes or until tender. Cool completely. Reduce oven temperature to 350°.
- Melt 6 Tbsp. butter; add the almonds, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour over the grape mixture; set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, add the melted butter, egg, milk, sugar, and vanilla and almond extracts. Mix well. Then add the flour and baking powder; stir.
- Spoon the cake batter onto a greased (or parchment-lined) cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. The dough will be thin and thick. Spread smoothly to the edges.
- Place the pears and grapes evenly on the dough; pour the juices over the top.
- Mix the 2 Tbsp. of cinnamon and sugar together. Sprinkle evenly over the cake.
- Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when it’s bubbly and slightly browned along the sides. Don’t over bake!
- Optional: When the cake is slightly cooled, pour a drizzle (powdered sugar mixed with a tiny bit of milk) over the cake and sprinkle with chopped nuts (optional).
