Today I’m sharing a delicious Curried Turkey Shepherd’s Pie recipe, and talking about how perfectionism keeps us from being generous!

I think too many of us sit back and wait for things to be perfect, before living out our true heart’s desires. If you think about it, perfectionism is haunting. It stops us from doing the things we love, and from being generous to others!


Perfection is not a worthy goal at all. It steals and makes us a shell of a person. I think of the time I’ve wasted over waiting for “perfect” and I really want to help friends who struggle with it.

Good enough.

I know it’s more than me saying, don’t be a perfectionist, but at some point we have to realize that “good enough” is just that – good enough. We have to learn when to stop striving for more, and settle for what is. To reach our goal and be happy with it. Otherwise our desire for “perfect” eats us alive, and think how that robs us of being who we should be to our families, friends, and the ones who love us!

Here’s an example. Let’s say you just can’t get over your house, or your cooking skills, to invite others in. What will they think of you? Worrying about the little things, that most people don’t even care about, stops you from giving to others. Your worries and fears crush your ability to be generous and bless another friend or family with a home cooked meal (which by far is better than eating out!)


People can be perfectionists with their money, too. When we value money (the cost of a meal, and wine?) and things over what’s really important {people} it again robs us of generosity!

Be patient with yourselves, friends. Keep learning and growing! It’s such a blessing to make a meal for others, and invite them into your home! Or, think of hospitality as blessing others in different kinds of ways of being generous, like taking a meal to them.

Curried Turkey Shepherd’s Pie.

Today I’m sharing a very easy meal, which is perfect for giving in the month of November.

You can make your own mirepoix (mixture of onions, carrots, celery, finely chopped – about 2 cups), but I sometimes buy it at Trader Joe’s.

Mix the meat and spices and veggies. Whip the potatoes, or use leftovers. Delicous!

How to serve this dish.

-Make it with leftover turkey later this month, and invite others in!
-Make it for a family in need, and take it to their house!
-Take this dish to a potluck. Are you hosting or attending a Friendsgiving Day party?
-Invite a family over for dinner!

Curried Turkey Shepherd's Pie

Curried Turkey Shepherd’s Pie is excellent with leftover turkey, mashed potatoes, even with leftover sweet potatoes or mashed acorn squash! You can use chicken, beef, or turkey.


  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 Tbsp.butter
  • 2 tsp salt, divided
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 14 oz. mirepoix, mixture of onions, carrots, celery, finely chopped – about 2 cups
  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1 1/2 cups carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 teaspoon ground curry
  • 1 teaspoon ground gram masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground tumeric
  • 2 cups frozen peas; thawed


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot of boiling water. Bring to a boil over high heat for 10 minutes. Drain and return to pot.
  • Mash potatoes with butter, milk, and 1 tsp. salt.
  • Heat oil in a large baking dish over medium-high heat. Add the turkey and cook, breaking apart with a wooden spoon, for 4-5 minutes. Stir in the mirepoix (carrots, celery, onions) along with the ginger, 1 tsp. of the salt, curry, gram masala, turmeric, 3/4 cup water. Cover and cook over medium heat, stirring once or twice, for about 6-7 minutes, adding more water if necessary. Uncover and stir in the peas. Cook for 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Spread potatoes over turkey mixture in dish and sprinkle with gram masala, if desired. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
