Grilled Cheese Sliders
Who doesn’t love a grilled cheese sandwich? Forget the bread, and make them slider-style next time, instead! These Grilled Cheese Sliders are cheesy, melty, and packed with flavor. Plus, they’re a fun alternative to full-sized sandwiches. They’re great for dunking into tomato soup or just for nibbling. They look great on a soup and sandwich board, or just put out a platter of these cheesy sliders and watch them get gobbled up!
I’d much rather make and serve sliders than sandwiches, and you make these easy Grilled Cheese Sliders in the oven, so there’s no standing over a stove frying them. I love dipping them into a rich and creamy bowl of tomato soup topped with chives, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of chopped apples.
Grilled Cheese Sliders
You can make a batch of these sliders and serve them at the halftime show during the big game, put them out for hungry kids, or dress them up with all the fixings on a soup and sandwich board. See my tips below on how to do that.
Read more: Grilled Cheese SlidersOf course, they’re delicious, just as they are. Loaded with cheese, these aren’t your typical sliders. They’re made inside out, sort of, so that they get all brown and toasty in the oven. And the cheese – there’s two kinds of cheese in these for maximum cheesy goodness.
I make these sliders on Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, but you can use any kind of slider. The important part is to slice the buns in half while they’re still connected. This will make building the sliders super easy. Inspired by a thisisnotdietfood.com recipe, I’m sure you’ll love these sliders as much as I do!
Why I love this recipe
- Grilled Cheese Sliders are easy to make and are perfect to serve a group, or you can double the recipe to serve even more people. Need fewer sliders? Divide the recipe in half to make enough for six people.
- You can prep the sliders ahead of time and then just pop them into the oven before serving.
- Dress these sliders up on a grilled cheese board or serve them as they are. See my instructions below on how to build a grilled cheese board.
Gather these ingredients
- Kings Hawaiian Sweet rolls – You’ll need 2 16-ounce packages, or 24 slider buns.
- Mayonnaise
- Colby Jack – About 12-ounces, sliced.
- Monterey Jack – About 12-ounces, sliced.
How to make Grilled Cheese Sliders
- Preheat your oven to 375-F and line a large baking sheet with foil. Set aside.
- Slice the dinner rolls in half horizontally and flip over the top halves so that both halves are cut side facing up.
- Spread half the mayonnaise on the cut side of the bottom half of the buns. Then, transfer the buns with mayonnaise to the lined foil pan and place them mayo-side down. Press down gently to flatten the buns.
- Arrange the cheese slices on the buns on the baking sheet. Cut the cheese slices to fit, if necessary. Use up all the cheese and cover all the rolls.
- Transfer the remaining buns and place them on top of the cheese, cut-side facing up. Spread the remaining mayonnaise over the cut side of the buns.
- Cover the sliders with foil and bake them at 375-F for about 10 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the top buns are starting to get brown.
- Turn the broiler on high and brown the top of the buns for 2-7 minutes or until golden brown. Watch them carefully so they don’t burn!
- Remove from the oven, let rest a few minutes, and serve!
How to make a Grilled Cheese Slider & Tomato Soup Board
- While the sliders are baking, heat up the tomato soup.
- Fill smaller bowls with sour cream, chopped chives, different jams, and finely chopped red apples. These are the garnishes for the soup and sliders. You can also add your favorite chips to the board.
- Remove the sliders from the oven and put a hot pad on the Big Board and transfer the soup pot to the board.
- Pull the sliders apart and serve them on parchment paper around the soup, or transfer them to a platter and let your guests pull them apart.
- Serve while the sliders and soup are hot.
Tips & substitutions
- Switch up the cheese. I love using sharp cheddar or for a bit of spice, try Pepper Jack. You can use any kind of easily melting cheese for these tasty sliders.
- I like Kings Hawaiian rolls, but any slider bun will work for this recipe.
- You can prep the sliders ahead of time and then just bake them about 20 minutes before you’re ready to eat.
- Full-fat mayo works best in this recipe. It’s the mayo that’ll help the sliders get nice and toasty brown.
Serving suggestions
Grilled Cheese Sliders and tomato soup are a perfect match, but any soup or salad will pair wonderfully with these sliders. These sliders make a tasty lunch or dinner, but I also love serving them at parties along with other fingerfoods like baked brie or Ritz Cracker party sandwiches.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

I don’t like Mayo at all. Can I use butter?
Thanks
Yes you can! Although you cannot taste the mayo in this recipe :)
