A Sisters Weekend at Kimpton Hotel Monaco
A few weekends ago, for Mother’s Day weekend, Kimpton Hotels spoiled my sisters and me on a special weekend at the boutique Hotel Monaco, in Portland, Oregon. Any time together with my sisters is always a royal treat, so we savored every moment together. One of the things I was excited about when redesigning my blog, was to be able to feature travels and food more. My sisters and I love the city of Portland, and it’s city to get to for relaxed downtime and fun together!
Centered in downtown Portland, Oregon, near the Pearl District, Powell’s Books, Pioneer Square and the Willamette Riverfront, when we showed up at the Hotel Monaco, the valet helped us check in and park our car. First class service!
When we opened the door to our room, we were surprised at its size. Perfect and spacious for 3 sisters to make it our home for the next 3 days.
Nicole, from the concierge desk, went over the top to surprise us, with bath salts, spa treatments, a beautiful gift basket.
There were rose pedals scattered on the beds.
Chocolate covered strawberries.
And … a chilled bottle of champagne.
She hand-wrote a note wishing us all a Happy Mother’s Day. It truly was special and inviting, a touch that doesn’t happen at most hotels!
We made ourselves right at home in the the funky and retro decor! In the closet hung 3 soft, plush animal-print bathrobes.
Loved the bright room, big windows, cool patterns of design – so hip and Portland-ish.
The spacious “City of Roses” bathroom and sitting area, and did you know that if you had a pet, they could come with you to the hotel?
Yes, that’s right. When you walk into Hotel Monaco, they make it known that their hotels are pet-friendly!
Every evening, Hotel Monaco provides a complimentary wine reception in the lobby! So we headed down to their Happy Hour for music and free drinks before enjoying a delicious dinner at Pazzo’s. The room was packed with kids and families, and a very talented pianist tickling the keys.
We shopped ’til we dropped, enjoyed our room, and ended the trip with an amazing dinner at Andina’s Restaurant, which the hotel recommended we try. It was our first time to have true, authentic Peruvian food, the freshest and most authentic ingredients, sourced both locally and in direct trade with a community of organic farmers in Chincha, Peru. They also provide a gluten-free menu!
Our hotel surprised us with a few extra noshes for us to try, and a lovely dessert, on them! (Thank you, Nicole :)
We really enjoyed our stay! It was the perfect way to spend time with my sisters, and celebrate our Mother, and check in with our own kids!
Ending with the drive home, and a big KISS and lunch with my college boys at University of Oregon.

Hotel Monaco graciously hosted us, but as always, all opinions are my own.
Hi Sandy,
I have been recovering and slow about getting back to reading and commenting but I was absolutely delighted when I saw this post in my email box. I love seeing all the love that you and your sisters share together. What a blessing!
And that special Mother’s Day kiss from your boys! Too cute.
You are such a beautiful woman, inside and out, with such a wonderful, special, and loving family. It’s such a great thing to see these days.
And P.S. … Your new hairstyle is gorgeous. You have always been a beauty but you look absolutely fantastic with bangs!
Much love to you and your family,
Mary

What a beautiful post, I love it. I live in Portland and you make it look as beautiful as it truly is. Love Pazzo and I have been to Andina many times. I don’t have a blog, but I read yours everyday!
