All about the spices.

I grew up with McCormick spices in our family kitchen, and I love when they come out with something new and easy for the home cook. This time I used their All Natural Bourbon Spiced Pork seasoning mix and added chopped onions, garlic, and white wine, with a drizzle of Worcestershire sauce on top.

You can also make your own rub, but this one in particular has brown mustard seed, chili pepper, black pepper, paprika, cinnamon, sea salt, brown sugar, garlic, onion, red bell pepper. They also added natural flavors of oak, barley, and bourbon. Even if you took 3-4 of these ingredients, it would make a fantastic rub.

Cook it slow.

The secret to pork, as most of us know, is to cook it slowly, all day long. The slower, the more tender it becomes. The crock pot was my mama’s friend, a big deal with her cooking, because she was organized and started her cooking in the morning hours. The house always smelled so good.

The menu.

By the end of the day we served this tender Crock Pot Pork Roast with a simple Caprese Gnocchi Bake, and a Summer Slaw (both recipes to come).

I do love this time of year and hope to be sharing some delicious meals—simple crock pot, easy to get on the table, little stress, even good enough for company—this autumn season.

  • 6-8 pressed garlic cloves
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 3-5 tablespoons 1.25 ounce your favorite dry rub (or mix together 4-5 of these ingredients: brown mustard seed, chili pepper, black pepper, paprika, cinnamon, sea salt, brown sugar, garlic, onion)
