My friend, Alice, just wrote her first cook book called, SAVORY SWEET LIFE: 100 Simply Delicious Meals for Every Family Occasion. That’s the name of her blog, too.

Alice is just an ordinary mom like many of us, driving her kids around, trying to get a good meal on the table, but she also has a very special approach not only to her heritage, but for the people around her.

I’ve had so much fun reading through the book, because Alice’s family reminds me of my family. (And, I couldn’t wait to try this fantastic recipe!)

I love her entertaining philosophy, too.

Cooking for my family and friends is a joy for me. I love when people come over and stay for hours, when we can spend time catching up with each other over good food and conversation. I’ve never been one who plans set menus or decorates the dining table with elaborate floral centerpieces, coordinating dishware, and complementary stemmed glassware. In fact, I don’t own any delicate china. Most of the time when we throw parties we use mismatched plates, cups, utensils, and a collection of eclectic serving dishes. For me, it has never been about hosting the picture-perfect party. It’s about creating a warm and inviting environment where guests feel welcome and my family and I can enjoy the evening with little stress. -Alice Currah

That’s my kind of thinking, Alice. :)

I use the same white dishes over and over and my Dollar Store goblets. It’s really the people who come that make me HAPPY!

Like the other night. I made my Rosemary Strawberry Shortcake recipe again, and this time I left it as the 9×13 size.

Combine the rosemary in the shortbread, fresh strawberries from our garden patch, and Alice’s Whipped Sour Cream filling (which I tripled, and I did not sift the sugar) – it was a dessert to die for!

I’m so happy to introduce you to Alice’s food blog, and also her new book that just hit the stands! It’s very easy to navigate through, so practical, and it also includes her own beautiful photography!

Alice writes, “The simple approach to food is the same philosophy behind my food blog, Savory Sweet Life.”

Do you have a secret ingredient that you include when making whipped cream?

Recipe: Whipped Sour Cream Filling {ReluctantEntertainer.com}

Summary: Add a little sour cream for some extra zing and you have the perfect filling for a memorable cake. Recipe from Savory Sweet Life, from Alice Currah. To include with my Rosemary Shortcake recipe, I tripled this recipe for a 9×13 size pan.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Using a hand or stand mixer, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract together on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Turn the mixer off and add the confectioners’ sugar and sour cream. Turn the mixer back on at the lowest speed and mix for 1 minute. Then increase the speed to medium and mix for 1 more minute.
  2. Store the cream in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  3. For RE shortcake, use cream right before serving, then add the berries.
