I walked in to their store and felt right at home. Beautiful carpet under my feet, friendly staff at the counter, and an overall excitement for what was to come.

You may recall my post, here, announcing my new partnership with Mohawk Flooring, as I’m blogging through my journey of getting new carpet in our home.

First of all, home to me is comfort. I’ve never been to a perfect home, have you? But I’ve been to many homes that are lived in–so warm and inviting–that they just draw you in. Of course it’s the people in the midst of the four walls that really make a home, but it’s also a feeling, a smell, the sounds, a touch.

I’m excited to embrace the “touch” and feel of new carpet. I think the new colors that we are going to choose will be so inviting and warm, and that it will make our many “gatherings” more enjoyable.

Back to the showroom. Walking in to Fashion Floors, here in Medford, Oregon, is where my first experience began.

Looking around, there were so many options, but Denny steered me in the right direction, over to the Mohawk section.

I looked Denny straight in the eyes and said, tell me, why is this product so great? After all, after spending this kind of money, for an investment for our home, it’d better last.

First of all, Mohawk is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of tufted and woven carpet.

It all begins with a plastic bottle
Did you know Mohawk uses a PET Recycling Plant to make their product? Plastic bottles arrive at their plant and are separated out by color and type, both manually and by a sorting machine. The bottles are ground in to chips, and then melted and extruded into fiber “fluff.” That fluff is then spun into yarn, and then made into carpet.

Recycled content
What began as waste has been transformed into luxurious carpet – for my home. I was already sold on the company, how they were willing to go beyond carpet to seek ways to reduce, recycle, reuse, and renew. Mohawk has over 100 products with recycled content. They also recycle tires and rubber into door mats!

What drew me in
As I walked through the store learning more about Mohawk products, I saw signs with words that quickly grabbed my attention: Comfort, Durability, Easy to Clean, Soft, Soil Protection. That is exactly what we were needing in a carpet!

SmartStrand as an option
Denny brought me to the SmartStrand section and shared these facts, stating that SmartStrand is rated #1 in customer satisfaction:

– Superior durability and softness for peace of mind and comfort

– Lifetime stain and soil resistance that’s built in, not sprayed on

– Protection that will never wear or wash off like other carpets

– Easy to clean with water or mild detergent

– Environmentally friendly, because it’s made in part from renewable resources

Stains and soils
I explained to Denny the wear and tear of our current carpet (what a normal family experiences), with teens and pets, spills and stains. After hearing about SmartStrand, I was sold. The fact that SmartStrand is the ONLY carpet with built-in stain and soil resistance that will NEVER wear or wash off, was enough for me to move on to the next step of choosing a carpet for our home.

Permanent stain and soil protection is built directly into the fiber during manufacturing. It isn’t put on afterward with chemicals. It’s there for LIFE—it will NEVER wash off, walk off or wear off.

We then talked about food stains: mustard, soy sauce, hot coffee, wine. And how easily they come out of the SmartStrand carpet with water and a mild detergent or Mohawk FloorCare™ Essentials. Guaranteed.

SmartStrand actually resists hot coffee and red wine stains!

Fading and sunlight exposure
SmartStrand carpet has excellent colorfast properties that resist fading from sunlight exposure, UV light and ozone. And even pet* urine won’t stain SmartStrand carpet.

Every new SmartStrand carpet comes with a lifetime dog and cat urine warranty as well as lifetime stain and soil warranties.

Getting the house measured
The next phase of my new carpet journey was to have Denny come out to our house and measure the rooms, discuss padding issues, and then to come up with a bid for the entire project. Love his little machine that measures a room. You hold it against the wall and point the laser to the wall you’re measuring. Tools are so simple now days!

Of course Haggis was there to inspect every inch of his work. :)

Once the bid comes in, my husband and I will be able to move forward and decide on designs, colors, and what works for our house.

What do you look for in carpet for your home?

I’m partnering with the “Mohawk Floors Me, as Told by Bloggers” program, and will be receiving all of our padding, carpet, and labor as a part of the project; but as always, all opinions and experiences are my own. Photo/group shot taken by David Gibb Photography.
