A Mother’s Love: By Erma Bombeck
Some day when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a mother, I will tell them:
I loved you enough to ask about where you were going, with whom and what time you would get home.
I loved you enough to insist that you buy a bike, that we could afford to give you, with your own money.
I loved you enough to make you return a Milky-Way with a bite out of it to the drug store and to confess “I stole this.”
I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that would have taken me 15 minutes.
I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, disgust and tears in my eyes.
I loved you enough to admit I was wrong and ask for your forgiveness.
I loved you enough to let you stumble, fall and hurt.
But most of all, I loved you enough to say NO when you hated me for it. That was the hardest part of all.
Isn’t it amazing that we get a day just to celebrate the most wonderful job in the world?
I also love this post, Buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy Board, and the poem I included in the post, A Prayer for a Mature Life.
I love being a mother, and I’ll always think back to how my own mom must have felt as a mother. And now I’m the mom to these 3 great kids, Elliot, Garrett and Abigail – my greatest gifts in life.
Happy Mother’s Day to all my wonderful friends! I hope you enjoy your day!
Oh, Sandy. I missed this on Mother’s Day. Gosh, so true. I’m going to have kiddo read this when he gets home, although he won’t fully appreciate it until he is a parent. I’m really loving Paul’s book and have loved seeing first hand what great parents you both are!
*mwah*
I have not read a most heartfelt, honest and true post this Mother’s Day!
You touched me and I have tears in my eyes even though Mother’s Day was 3 days ago… :)
Sandy, You are more beautiful now than EVER! Your boys are so handsome and I’m so proud of the Mother and Woman of God that you are! Thanks for inspiring all of us! Love you bunches! Happy Mother’s Day!
Wonderful and so true…from a mother of six, ages 26 to 4! Children… what a wonderful reward and blessings…through all their seasons of life.
Happy Mother’s Day…enjoyed,
Janette
