Best Charcuterie Boards to Buy
What kind of board will you be making for your family or friends? [wink-wink] Start placing your meats first, followed by the cheeses, as these two are the bulk of the board.
The meats can be sliced, rolled or stacked. If you want to make it easier for your guests, we suggest slicing the cheese as well. But wait … on a charcuterie board you can also serve a full dinner!
What is the best material for a charcuterie board?
American Maple is a forgiving hardwood—and has the ability to withstand a lifetime of use. Maple is a great choice for a charcuterie board because it’s non-porous, and therefore won’t absorb odors or stain as quickly as softer woods. Better yet, my boards have a FOOD SAFE finish on them. I’ve yet to have them stain, even with berries! We feel our boards are superior and will last!
Grain variation is to be expected in your product.
What is the best size for a charcuterie board?
This obviously depends on the number you are feeding. Some say 9×13 inches, but you may have to cram the food on, and if it doesn’t have the important lip, the food falls off. But check out my NEW 12 x 36-inch! Perfect for chips and salsa!
The 26-inch round is perfect for larger get-togethers with family and friends. It features the all-important raised lip with undercut handles and a FOOD SAFE finish. Made in the USA by America’s premier wood craftsman, JK Adams. Every board comes with an RE logo on the back.
What sizes are the RE boards?
Available in SEVEN great sizes: 20-inch roundfor smaller gatherings, 26-inch round for larger get togethers, 12 x 36-inch rectangular board, and NEW travel board (folds in half)!

How do I choose a charcuterie board?
This is a good question. Having made cheese boards for years, there is nothing worse at a gathering than for everyone to be serving themselves (the beauty of a casual charcuterie board), and the food falls off. What a mess.
Our boards have the important lip around the outside. It is rare you will find a food safe, beautiful and affordable board with a raised edge. This is where JK Adams design comes in. How lucky for me to be partnering with the premier wood makers in the USA!

Boards I’ve used in the past
For reference, the boards I’ve used in The Big Board posts (round boards) were these sizes:
28 inch, 24 inch, and 18 inch. [These boards are no longer available to buy, plus they were not food safe.]
I also use a 12 x 48 inch rectangular board with I love.
For me, personally, a “lip” is the secret to the best charcuterie or dinner board, because the food does not fall off.
How to care for The Big Board
If a wood board says it “not food safe,” you can lightly sand it down with sand paper, and rub down with beeswax and mineral oil.
Follow along how to season a charcuterie board for the details, but we used this butcher block and cutting board oil conditioner after we lightly sanded the board down.
For my board, follow these instructions:
Wood is an incredible natural material that is naturally antimicrobial, and expands and contracts with moisture and humidity. Regular regimented care of this product will protect it for years to come.
- Hand wash with warm, soapy water after each use and dry thoroughly with a towel—fully drying is very important.
- Never soak or submerge in water, run in a dishwasher, or use in a microwave.
- Placing hot pots or pans on your board can result in a lasting burn mark.
- Store flat when possible to avoid warping.
Everyone loves a charcuterie board, cheese board, or a dinner board.
Bringing families and people together during these times to enjoy a meal together is essential, nutritious, and soulful!
Friends, I just love how my boards are lightweight and FOOD SAFE! Thanks for your support!
