BEST Corned Beef and Cabbage
Today I’m sharing my delicious BEST Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe with Mustard Aioli Sauce. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! And I say BEST, because the secret is in the mustard sauce! One of my Facebook fans said: I chop up leftovers the next day a fry it all in a big skillet with butter. Best Corned Beef hash!!
But first … do you serve Corned Beef and Cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day even if you’re not Irish?
Of course it’s up to you!
What ingredients do you need for Corned Beef and Cabbage?
Here’s what you need to make the BEST Corned Beef and Cabbage:
- Corned beef brisket (about 3 pounds) with spice packet
- Brown sugar
- Bay leaves
- Potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and white onion
- Fresh parsley
I’m also a huge fan of my Le Creuset Dutch Oven, Kitchenaid multi-cooker and Instant Pot. All three are incredibly useful for these kinds of recipes and many more!
My husband grew up eating this kind of food his entire life, and honestly, he’d be happy to never eat a potato again.
Is corned beef really Irish?
Come to find out, corned beef is not considered an Irish national dish, but is from more of an Irish-American culture! Corned beef was used as a substitute for bacon by Irish-American immigrants in the late 19th century.
Corned Beef brisket
Just in time for a great Sunday meal this past weekend, and to celebrate St. Patrick, we indulged in this classic BEST Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe (thank you All Recipes). Everything you need to make a great meal, all in one pot.
Which corned beef cut is best?
Corned beef is sold three ways: The flat, more lean cut with a consistent thickness. The point, or the thicker end of the brisket, with a bit more fat. Or a whole brisket, which includes both the flat and the point.
How to make Mustard Aioli Sauce
What made it delicious is a mustard that we served with it. Using Trader Joe’s Aioli Garlic Mustard Sauce, we made a sweet and spicy mustard to dip the corned beef in. Soooo good! Use these ingredients:
- Trader Joe’s Aioli Garlic Mustard Sauce
- Sour cream
- Sugar
Funny story, we are an Irish family, (my husband’s parents were born and raised in Dublin, their marriage certificate signed by the Pope).
So, I don’t really consider myself an Irish cook … at all. Probably in 28 years of marriage, we’ve served corned beef 4-5 times?
But this week it was fantastic! This recipe, cooked on my stove top.
So … my husband grew up eating Irish food. Nothing to write home about. But he loved this recipe today! A homerun that we’ll be making again!
ENJOY!

We loved having you over for St. Patti’s Day last year! Wanna come again?
That was so fun! I’m sure we will be in town this year, but thank you Patti!
What is a seasoning packet? I ordered a corned beef brisket and but it doesn’t come with any seasoning?
It should come with seasoning! Every corned beef I’ve ever cooked comes with a very small packet of seasoning!
Being from Texas we eat lots of brisket but not much corned beef however I am making my plans to cook this for tomorrow!
I LOVE corned beef. It’s one of my faves, my family’s not so much. :(
