Gather these ingredients

  • Chocolate cake mix
  • Instant chocolate pudding
  • Whole milk
  • Unsalted butter – grated (cold butter with cheese grater)
  • Chocolate chips – semi sweet
  • Chocolate chips – milk chocolate

How to make Chocolate Dump Cake

  1. Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. 
  3. Empty the cake mix and dry pudding mix into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Pour the milk evenly over the cake and pudding mix and use a fork to combine together (does not have to be perfect).
  5. Sprinkle the two types of chocolate chips over the cake batter. Then, use a cheese grater and a cold stick of butter and grate the butter evenly over the top of the cake mix (must be COLD butter – room temperature will not work).
  6. Bake for 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and serve.
  8. Enjoy!

Tips & substitutions

  • Best to use a cheese grater and cold butter, but you could also just add small chunks of butter on top of the mix before baking it.
  • You can also sprinkle nuts, mini marshmallows, or sprinkles on top of the cake.
  • Can be served warm with ice cream, gelato or fresh whipped cream.
