Today I’m sharing an “inspired room” in my house …er, um, I mean, if you consider our outdoor entertaining area a room (I do!) I’m sharing how to set a table with a grocery store flowers, which we just enjoyed at a dinner party in our backyard a week ago. I love this color combination for fall!

The Inspired Room

The Inspired Room- new coffee table book!

I’m also excited to share with you my good friend Melissa’s new book, The Inspired Room, a very unique design book (not a collection of photos of nice houses or designer rooms), very relatable, about creating a real life home on a budget, starting with what you already have.

The Inspired Room

I’ve already read it cover to cover, and it’s going to be one of the most useful books I’ve ever owned. Melissa is a great teacher, and designer, and is so very humble, and she just has that “you can do it” spirit about her. I’m so proud of my friend! Plus, the book is filled with Melissa’s gorgeous photography!

Grocery store flowers.

So, using grocery store flowers, here’s how I set a beautiful fall table.

I started with a runner that I flipped over, to use the plain gold side and grocery store flowers.

Do our homes have to be perfect?

I think the number one thing that prevents us from entertaining is thinking that our homes have to be perfect before we can make that invite. Sometimes I worry about this, but then I just let it go. I do what I can, and move on to the food and table. And guess what? Knowing my house isn’t perfect helps me relate more to others, and hopefully helps them relate more to me!

There’s so much that we could do with our yard, patio, house, updating, decor, paint, etc. My point is, I’m so glad I don’t let negative things stop me from inviting people over.

Content with my style.

I don’t even own things that could make an extravagant table. I settle in on my style, and I’m content with that. I’ve learned a lot about this from my friend, Melissa, as she has written about this many times on her blog.

So, back to this lovely outdoor dinner party. On this night, we were so lucky to eat outside and enjoy the warm evening, with a hint of fall in the air. It truly was lovely.

Just like the simple boquet of flowers from the grocery store, that brightened our table, and reminded me that simple is good.

What holds you back from being content with your home?
