Messy House Entertaining + Prosciutto Wrapped Honeydew with Blue Cheese
This Prosciutto Wrapped Honeydew with Blue Cheese appetizer is a fresh, easy, delightful appetizer or salad to serve at a summer dinner party.
Warmer connections come when we’re willing to take a chance.
A chance of opening our homes, even when we are scared to death (it’s not hip, it’s messy, I hate to cook), to better friendships and share a healthier way of living.
There’s just not enough time.
We live in such a fast-paced world, we naturally get into routines and rhythms with our families and schedules, busyness sets in, and there is just no time for dinner guests.
Friends, it’s so easy to lose sight of what’s important.
And then there’s our homes.
My home is …
My house. Do I really want to clean and get it ready for company? As of late, we’re coming and going, and my house is … well, a mess! I’m trying to keep up on the cleaning (2 chores a day), but some days get away from me.
It does take risk to open our homes. I don’t know why I still (after all these years) struggle with … Is it clean enough? Will they see my little piles? (Oh, my little piles….) I haven’t dusted in two weeks (oops)!
And … our bathrooms … are so outdated.
Learn to push past your fears.
When will I learn that hospitality is more than the concerns of my home and things looking a certain way. Why can’t I settle my mind and learn more about my friends?
I think about my insecurities, and I clearly see why inviting others into our homes is so risky.
I’m worried about myself, and what others think, and it absolutely ruins my desire to invite others in.
So I push past my fears and I said yes.
We cooked a simple meal, ate out by the pool, and enjoyed our friends.
Guess what? No one really even mingled inside (whew!) and I made sure one bathroom was clean and ready! EASY!
Prisciutto Wrapped Honeydew with Blue Cheese.
Here’s a delightful dish that I served as an appetizer, but it’s also delicious as a salad!
Sweet summer melon with a bit of pear jam or preserves, wrapped with prosciutto, sprinkled with blue cheese and drizzled with honey.
We cooked a simple summer meal, and the night got away from us. A few hours later, we were still sitting in the same place, sipping on wine, sharing stories, going deeper, feeling the emotions of going deeper with our friends.
Beautiful, is all I can say.
What’s stopping you from inviting others into your home?

I feel more comfortable when I see someone else’s mess :) Great post Sandy, and I really love this simple appetizer! This is my kind of food!!
I’m a total neat freak. But, since moving to the farm I just can’t keep the house clean. So much other stuff to do plus we come in with dirty clothes and things like straw/hay fall off while inside.
Two things I try to do if company is coming over 1) clean bathrooms, 2) vacuum the floors so they don’t feel things when walking around (hate that!)
But I also try to remind myself that when I go to a friend’s house I never even notice or care about the cleanliness of their homes
I used to be a stressed perfectionist before entertaining. Over 20 years ago we started to get to know some neighbors better and were in & out of each other’s houses at any moment. When we sat together for dinner one night – surrounded by baskets and piles of clean and dirty laundry I had an AHA moment – I was thankful for them. Thankful that our friendship had nothing to do with a clean house. These days my biggest challenge is the financial – UGH. My husband was laid off and there’s just no money to have people over like we usually do. So I need to get more creative and do things differently during this chapter.
For me, it’s just time…hubby’s schedule is not 9-5 so we never really know when he’ll be home from work and lately weekends haven’t been an option either…I miss having people over but I know it will happen again.
