Over the weekend, we had so much fun as a family. Life is about celebration and gathering and special moments, but it’s also about slowing down, beauty, and family.
Summer Fruit Baked Brie Plate
Of course, eating together is a big part of our family time, like diving into this Summer Fruit Baked Brie.
Summer Fruit Baked Brie Recipe
This time we enjoyed a delicious brie, so good with a variety of crackers.
Make with dates, apples, blackberries, apricots, pecans, and a wildflower honey drizzle. So good. We love American Pecans (check out a complete menu for summer hosting, here.)
Paulina Falls, Oregon
We hiked 7 miles to Lake Paulina and Paulina Falls!
Had a PB&J picnic (so fancy – ha!)
Enjoyed the sunshine and the beautiful falls. What a beautiful day in central Oregon!
How do you microwave brie?
Unwrap the wheel of brie and place on a small microwave-proof plate with a rim. Microwave on high for 1 minute 15 seconds, or until the brie is very soft when you touch the center.
How do you bake brie?
It’s easy! Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Place the brie on a sheet pan covered with parchment paper. I like to cut the top off first (to make a lid).
Bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until it starts to ooze, but not melt.
We often talk as a family about how we can be good to this world. Of course for all of us it involves, doing something, showing up, being involved, and making a difference where we can.
I really hope that Paul and I have been a good example to our kids. We work to walk the talk in our passions, and we hope and pray our kids will follow suit, whatever direction they are lead to make a change for good.
Being present in an authentic, life-giving way is what it means. For Paul it means standing up for the hurt, oppressed, lonely, picked-on kids. (Paul’s is a bullying expert.)
For me, continuing to practice hospitality and inspire through my blog, and invite people into our home.
We don’t do things perfectly, but we get up and try!
I really think there are too many just living for themselves these days. I worry about our future!
Hospitality is never a waste of time!
So for today … make this very EASY recipe, friends, and invite some people into your home.
Possibly start with drinks and an appetizer? That’s a great way to get to know new people. You can always ask them to bring an appetizer, too!
Happy Hosting!
PS. I bought this hammered aluminum tray in Brevard, North Carolina. My friend, Amy, has been collecting hammered aluminum for years, so read about it over on her blog. She calls it the other Po’ Man’s Silver:)

I just wanted to comment to let you know how much I am enjoying your Instagram feed. I am a SAHM and caregiver to a soon to be six year old little boy that has autism. I have chosen the homeschool route and I long for the connections you talk about. I do not have the gift of hospitality but pray that I can step out in faith. We have a humble home and money is tight but I have faith that God can open doors. I manage Real Life Moms by Laura Hurd as a creative outlet. Thank you for creating beauty in this world!Â
Thank you Laura!
Where is the tray from? It’s so beautiful!
I bought it in an antique store! It’s hammered aluminum. :)
