M and M Christmas Cookies
‘Tis the season for amazing Christmas Cookies, like this M and M Christmas Cookies recipe, perfect for gifts and a cookie exchange party!
Friends, we’ve been enjoying some quality times with friends and family here in central Oregon. And I love to keep amazing Christmas cookies on the counter. These incredibly chunky (healthier) M&M cookies are made with Bob’s whole wheat flour, and they are delish!
Holiday Whole Wheat M and M Cookies Recipe
We took our favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and changed it up with holiday colored (red and green) M and Ms. We used a medium-size scoop — to get in more of our favorite candy-coated chocolates. YUM! The result, cookies that look just as good as they taste!
The perfect way to end the day, after a long hike with friends, is to take a bite of these Whole Wheat M and M Cookies!
Why we love these Christmas cookies
They are festive, and make a fun “hostess gift” or a “neighbor gift.”
Donate them for a bake sale.
We love Bob’s Red Mill grains, having lived in Oregon almost all of our lives, so they are a staple in our home!
I love how you can use different size scoops, depending on how many cookies you want to bake, and you can use regular size M&Ms or the minis.
Serve these cookies on a Last Minute Dessert Board for guests or to bring to a party!

- Baking powder + baking soda
- Salt
- Butter
- White sugar + brown sugar
- Eggs
- Vanilla
- M&M candies: we use the regular size but you can also use mini M&M candies
- Walnuts: optional
How to make M & M Christmas Cookies:
- Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Using a mixer, cream the butter, sugar and brown sugar on high speed, until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs; scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- Slowly add the flour and vanilla until combined.
- Mix in the M and M candy pieces (and walnuts) by hand.
- Using a medium scoop, place the cookie dough on the parchment paper.
- Bake! Allow to cool for several minutes before serving.
Tips and substitutions:
- Adjust the baking time if you make larger cookies.
- And green and red M and M’s for the perfect holiday cookies, but you can also use regular colored M and M’s.
- You can use regular, peanut or mini M and M’s for this cookie recipe. Any one of these will be delicious
- For looks, try placing a few on top right after baking instead of just before like you would chocolate chips. This makes the cookies even prettier.
- What about cracked M and Ms? There’s no way to really keep the M and M’s from cracking when baking the cookies. The extreme heat causes the cracking. The only way to avoid this is to not put the candy in the oven at all, and press them into the cookie as soon as they’re taken out of the oven.
- How do you store these cookies? Store the cookies on the counter. M and M’s don’t love extreme temperatures or refrigerators.
Hosting and special Christmas cookies
We recently went on a nature hike with our out-of-town guests, and talked about how quiet it can be.
How easy it is to take in nature. You don’t have to ask questions, or even discuss it, you just breathe it in, so organically. And then when you return home, you do not return as the same person who left.
Our adventures shape us, at least for me, as I find I’m more intimately aware. I see people, God, my own spirituality, differently.
Back to home, the most unique place in the world. Right?
I’m so thankful for our home, and that we can host guests!
Hospitality doesn’t have to be complicated, and setting up a guest room is easy. Besides clean sheets, and extra blankets, I like to set out a treat, sometimes even a little gift.
ENJOY!
