You don’t have to do it all!

Delegation is key to creating a simple party, so the host doesn’t have to do it all.

One decorating element, such as a red and white striped tablecloth, can be the foundation of a festive table – like this one.

I remind myself of this when I try to do too much, or try to do it all, to take a deep breath, make lists, ask for help, and then remember once everyone shows up at the party to let go of unrealistic expectations and HAVE FUN!

7 Tips to planning a Fourth of July Party:

1. Decide how you want to serve your guests. Sit-down dinner, buffet style, or fill your plate at the grill? We chose BUFFET style for our Fourth of July party!

2. Think about the seating. Folding chairs, blankets, poolside dining with legs dipping into the water! The Fourth is all about staying COOL and having FUN!

3. Plan out the menu. Make a list and start with the MAIN DISH, and then build around that entree. What will be your signature dish?

4. Delegate. Jot your guests’ names down by a food item or entree’ that you’d like them to bring. Don’t forget the DRINKS and the DESSERT!

5. Start with a fun tablecloth. Then build on that with red, white, and blue accents. CLOTH NAPKINS are a classy touch.

6. Add a live centerpiece. Add a giant fern plant, and a banner that adds to the “4th” flair.

7. Pull it all together. Keep a healthy attitude that believes a Fourth of July party is relaxing, fun, casual, and does not have to be perfect.

Mini sliders with caramelized shallots.

Now for the sliders recipe. I am in love with shallots. We grow them, we buy them, we use them in so many recipes! This time I took about 12 and sautéed them, adding COKE for the finishing caramelized touch.

Instructions

  • Mix ground beef with onion powder, steak sauce, salt and black pepper.
  • Form into 12 small, even patties. Set aside.
  • Heat butter and oil together in medium skillet over medium heat. When butter is melted, stir in shallots.
  • Cook until just beginning to caramelize, then add Coca-Cola.
  • Increase heat to medium-high and cook liquid about 4-minutes, until liquid has almost evaporated.
  • Return to low heat and continue cooking until fully caramelized (watch the shallots carefully so they do not burn).
  • While shallots are cooking, cook burgers in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, approximately 3-minutes on each side. Top each patty with a slice of cheese, if using cheese.
  • Fill each bun with a burger and a heaping pile of shallots. Serve with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, etc.
