We’re all on a spectrum when it comes to cooking, and we can all improve. Rarely is it perfect. So this time, I decided to play around with my recipe and leave out the oats, and I love how it turned out.

How to make Apple Pear Crumble without Oats

There are so many reasons to absolutely love the “fall” season. The weather is just about perfect, which makes it absolutely ideal for enjoying activities with your family and friends, and heading to the apple orchard is one of them!

Or, if you can’t do this, then stop off at your favorite market for fresh apples and pears!

  1. Slice apples and pears (leave the skin on) right into the dish. Add the lemon juice to the apples and pears and gently toss to coat. Add the cinnamon and brown sugar, and gently mix.
  2. Make the topping by stirring together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt with softened butter.
  3. Crumble and sprinkle over the apples. Bake and serve!

autumn trees

Oh, and be still my heart. I love this beautiful poem.

Autumn Chant

Now the autumn shudders
In the rose’s root,
Far and wide the ladders
Lean among the fruit.
Now the autumn clambers
Up the trellised frame
And the rose remembers
The dust from which it came.
Brighter than the blossom
On the rose’s bough
Sits the wizened, orange,
Bitter berry now;
Beauty never slumbers;
All is in her name;
But the rose remembers
The dust from which it came.
